HUNTER X HUNTER: Strongest Corpse Touch

Chapter 5: 5

In a place like Meteor Street, where supplies are scarce, very few people can enjoy normal meals, let alone meat, except for the elders of the top management and their confidants.

The elder assigned Ron to be the cleaner responsible for handling the corpses, and honestly, it was his ability to remove all negative states from the corpses that mattered.

You see, in some places, human flesh can be sold for a pretty good price, especially the corpses processed by Ron, which can be sold for a higher price than those on the general market.

After all, the negative state of the corpse can be clearly understood, and even the slight sour smell produced by the corpse is canceled.

...

After leaving the small garden, Ron did not return to his residence immediately but instead went to the material collection point.

Every time a corpse is disposed of, the elder gives Ron some rewards. These rewards are generally normal daily necessities in terms of food and clothing.

Although these items are rare and precious on Meteor Street, their value is not worth mentioning compared to the benefits of the corpses that Ron processed and sold.

The black card given by the elder is a voucher for receiving supplies and can be used as currency in disguise within Meteor Street.

After exchanging the two black cards for supplies, Ron hurried back to his hut, where there were still people waiting for him.

Even though there was a bright moon in the sky, many people were still coming and going on the street. Upon seeing Ron, their eyes displayed the same complicated expression as before.

The people in Meteor Street are not afraid of death, but that does not mean they can tolerate their corpses being abused after death. They respect Ron for making the corpses quiet and peaceful, allowing the souls to suffer less on their journey to reincarnation.

Because of the existence of Nen, people in this world believe in souls.

However, they are disgusted that Ron handles the corpses so well that after death, the flesh might be used as food by some people. As a result, they have mixed feelings about Ron and tend to avoid him.

Not only Ron, but other corpse cleaners are also not well-received by the residents of Meteor Street.

Of course, Ron doesn't need their attention. In his eyes, he will leave Meteor Street sooner or later, and he doesn't intend to form much connection with these people.

Facing the bright moonlight in the sky, soon, his flat house came into view, causing Ron to subconsciously reveal a warm smile.

"I'm back!"

Ron didn't knock on the door but called out instead, knowing that if he didn't make a sound, even knocking wouldn't prompt the people inside to open the door for him.

"Crack~"

As soon as Ron finished speaking, the closed door opened, and a cute little head poked out.

"You're back~"

The girl's soft, kawaii voice rang out. Although her tone and expression remained unchanged and very flat, Ron didn't mind; her character was always like this.

"I got a lot of supplies again, and we can live in peace for a while, Shizuku."

Ron smiled at the girl in front of him and pulled out the daily necessities he had exchanged from his space.

The girl looked about eighteen years old, with a pure appearance and short hair. She had a natural and slightly sexy charm, with unexpectedly plump breasts.

With dark hair and indigo eyes, she looked very cute in her slightly pristine, clean clothes and black-rimmed glasses.

She is the number 8 member of the Phantom Troupe in the original series, Shizuku!

"Um."

After hearing Ron's words, Shizuku blinked slightly, her face still maintaining that flat and cute expression.

Seeing Shizuku like this, Ron couldn't help but reach out and gently pat her head. Shizuku remained expressionless, looking at Ron quietly. The two of them had been living together for several months and shared a basic level of trust.

The appearance of Shizuku brought Ron back to the day he arrived in this world and the day he met her.

When Ron woke up and found himself lying in a garbage dump, surrounded by many people in protective clothing speaking a language he couldn't understand, his mood plummeted.

He mustered to remember that among all that garbage were industrial waste, hazardous materials from failed chemical experiments, and various substances harmful to the human body. Thus, to collect living materials from the dump, all-round protective clothing was essential.

Ron, however, was just wearing casual clothes, lying there without any protective measures, exposing his body to so much radiation that he felt dizzy within two minutes.

As his consciousness began to blur and despair set in, Shizuku appeared.

Wearing a hazmat suit, she took Ron's hand and led him out of the landfill. Afterward, she used a special method to remove all the harmful substances caused by the radiation on his body, saving his life.

When Ron awoke, he found himself changed into a set of rather old clothes, while the suit he had been wearing was taken to the material exchange by Shizuku and traded for some food.
