Chapter 8: Chapter 8
Inside the double room.
"What are you doing, exactly? Since last month, you have always taken the time to meditate." On the bed, Biscuit lay on her stomach, supporting her chin with both palms. She watched his 'strange' activities curiously. Since a month ago, Ives had indeed been acting quite strange.
"Trying to unlock something?" Ives answered lightly while keeping his eyes closed.
"Something? Something like what?" Biscuit started to get interested. Getting off the bed, she sat cross-legged right before the man.
Opening his eyes, Ives grinned. "Show me your hands."
"For what? Don't tell me you want to do something weird?" Biscuit narrowed her eyes, clearly skeptical.
"Just do it, you'll know."
"Alright, alright, but don't do anything weird. Otherwise, I'll beat you up!" Biscuit finally agreed to his words after uttering her threat.
"Okay, hold it in the air," Ives instructed briefly. Then, he positioned his palm directly above the girl's hand. Taking a slow breath, he began to concentrate.
"What are you actually doi-" Biscuit couldn't understand his behavior. But, before she could finish her sentence, she felt something 'tickling' her hand. That's right, suddenly her hand felt tingly, and she felt a burning sensation starting to build up!
"Ouch!" As the tingling sensation intensified, Biscuit immediately pulled her hand away. Her eyes were wide open, and she was still amazed by what had just happened.
"H-how did you do that? Was it a magic trick?"
"No, this is not a magic trick. As for what this is, I myself still don't understand." Yes, he lied. He knew this was Nen, but he still hadn't managed to open all of his Aura Nodes. What he did was clearly a personal experiment. He did this training with references he had gotten when watching the Hunter x Hunter Anime, although his memory was a bit blurry. Of course, he didn't want to teach Biscuit anything he didn't fully understand yet.
"If it's not a magic trick, then what is it? It feels so weird... It's like hot steam is rising onto my hands." Biscuit held her chin as she tried to recall the strange feeling.
"I wonder, too." Ives shook his head. "Maybe after we pass this Exam, we can find out? I heard there's a special market for Hunters. They say we can get various classified information as long as we can afford it."
"Hmm, try it again; I want to ensure whether that's just my imagination." Biscuit reached out her hand once more, but this time, it was her left hand. And sure enough, after Ives concentrated, she felt that strange feeling again: tingling and heat.
"Now I'm getting more curious. Ives, tell me, what do you feel when you meditate?"
After thinking for a while, Ives was willing to explain. At first, it didn't feel like anything, but when he was about to enter the second week of his meditation training, he felt something like a warm wind blowing over him. The feeling didn't last long, though. After feeling that faint warm wind, this meditation gave him the benefit of faster self-recovery.
After giving her a brief explanation, the two continued chatting about the strange energy until they eventually switched to the topic of Hunters.
"How many stages do you think we must go through to pass the exam?" Lying back on the bed, Biscuit wiggled her legs as she asked.
"Between three to four stages."
"If that's true, then this Exam will be long and rigorous. Well, I can't wait to pass it." Biscuit's two feet patted the mattress faster.
"Ives, when you pass, what kind of Hunter do you want to be?"
"I haven't decided yet." Ives shook his head honestly. On this one question, he really hadn't decided yet.
"For me, I want to be a Stone Hunter!" Talking about Stone Hunter, Biscuit's smile immediately bloomed. Ever since she found out about the Hunter Exam, she had read a lot of information about the Hunter profession list, and Stone Hunter was the one that interested her.
"Stone Hunter, huh?" Ives pondered. In the original timeline, Biscuit did choose to become a Stone Hunter, even achieving Double-Star Hunter in this profession. Not just any Hunter could achieve the title of Double-Star Hunter, heck, even One-Star Hunter had very high requirements!
Jewels, diamonds, and ancient artifacts... He actually had an interesting idea about what kind of Hatsu he would make if he wanted to obtain such valuable items. It would involve Emission and Conjuration types and... perhaps Manipulation, too? What kind of affinity he had would determine how effective this Hatsu would be. However, even if his affinity was only sixty percent, this Hatsu could be considered the dream of many people.
While Biscuit and Ives are busy chatting.
Inside the Zeppelin, "Don't you think this test is too much, Netero?"
"It's only been three years since you became the Association President, and you've increased the difficulty level several times already." The person sighs.
"Maybe this is what the Association needs to be able to filter out quality candidates?" Appearing with a muscular body, shoulder-length hair, and a goatee beard, Netero stroked his beard with a smirk.
"If you keep raising it, I wouldn't be surprised if someday only one person out of hundreds will make it. Or perhaps that's what you really wanted?"
"So, you came here just to discuss this?" Netero turned his head.
Standing before him was a beautiful blonde woman with a bob haircut. She was slightly shorter than him, with large eyes, dark pupils, and a curvy body.
The relationship between them is still unknown, but what is clear is that they seem to be close friends. Judging from their appearance, they seem like father and daughter because their ages and appearances seem very contrast.
"I was on my way to Split Mountain, but since my route crossed yours, I decided to stop by, " She said in a light tone.
"Hmm, it's time for me to go. Okay, Netero, see you later." She walked out of the Zeppelin, waving casually. She went to the edge of the cliff and jumped down.
You must know the cliff she jumped off was almost two hundred meters high! And this woman jumped like it was no big deal.
"Hohohoho! So energetic as usual." Inside the airship, Netero laughed while stroking his beard.
What she said was true. Since he took office, he has indeed increased the difficulty of the Hunter Exam every year, and he plans to do this for the next couple of years or decades. He was confident that by implementing this system, he could create the quality Hunters he wanted, perhaps even producing Hunters who met the criteria of five world's strongest Hunters.
