Chapter 29: Searching x Market
"I have a plan; we can scout the city to see if we can find members of the Troupe," Leorio said. No one has told him yet that they already knew the general location of the Troupe's hideout.
"We already know the general location of the troupe hideout," Jett said so that Leorio didn't come up with any more ideas. "That's right, all we have to do now is search in that location," Killua said.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Gon said, clenching his fist.
"Don't be rash, Gon. We still need to prepare for the auction. I think that only two of us should go. We can wait for one of the members to come out. When they do, we attack them and try to capture them. If it is the woman who can read memories, it would be better, but if we can capture one of them, we can trade for that woman's help," Jett said.
"Jett is right, Gon. We're not only dealing with the Troupe, but we also have to watch out for the people trying to capture Jett; we should also include Jess in the plan," Killua added.
"That's a good idea; I'll contact her," Jetts said, stepping to the side.
"Then we need to decide which two of us will be going first," Killua said.
"Then let's decide with rock, paper, scissors!" Gon shouted. Gon, a well-practiced player, won against Killua. "You cheated!" Killua said. "No way, I didn't cheat. Killua is just a sore loser," Gon mocked.
"What did you say!" Killua playfully grabs Gon by the head in a chokehold.
"Jess said she was in..."
"Have the two of you decided then? Because I'm going first," Jett said.
"Yeah! I'm going with you, Jett," Gon said, jumping on Jetts' back.
"That's good. Then, Killua, you will go with Leorio and ask for the auction catalog. We have the money saved up, and we already have a plan to get the game." Jett reiterated the plan.
"Gon, you and I will go at night. That would be the best time," Jett said.
"Got it," Gon said, pumping his fist at Jett.
Later, before night fell, Gon and Jett set off to the outskirts. They didn't take a taxi, and while it would have been faster, it wasn't a problem for both Jett and Gon. "Gon, I will lead; you follow. Once we arrive at the city's edge, we will enter the state of Zetsu. Keep up with me," Jett said.
"Umm," Gon said with a nod. Without another word, Jett broke into a run. Three buildings away from Gon and Jett, two people followed. They watched the two between the gaps in the buildings, keeping pace. Jett wasn't aware because the two people had entered a state of Zetsu. Instinct would have told Jett or Gon someone was looking at them, but the two men following them were also experienced Nen users. They knew how to track without being noticed.
"Are we attacking," Orkis asked.
"Is not the right time; my ability will not work if the person I copy sees me; that's part of the condition," Zarks, the ordinary man who had come in contact with Gon, said.
"How about I test them out? We can gather some information," Orkis suggested.
"That's not a bad idea, but if you do that, we will lose the element of surprise later. The only one who would be able to go would be you..." Zarks agreed to test them, but it couldn't be them; they had to keep their abilities hidden.
"Aren't they searching for someone? It should be one of the Troupe members, right? What if we help them?" Orkis suggested again with an evil grin on his face. "Yes, that could work, but we can't do it today; we have to gather information first," Zarks said.
"Thinking about it a little more carefully, your plan is excellent. We must wait for the Zoldyck kid and the boy in the green clothes to leave together. We then instigate the members of the phantom to attack them. I will attack the target while you watch for a chance to attack the other two in the unlikely case I lose." Zarks thought Orkis' plan was good. It was a great opportunity. They just needed to wait for the right opportunity.
Gon and Jett both continue, unaware that they are being followed. Although Jess followed behind them, she overlooked the other two. The two didn't do anything that night. They wanted to find more information, although Orkis protested that they didn't have to be so careful because he only viewed them as children. He didn't think a group of thirteen-year-olds would be more robust than him, who had known Nen for far longer.
Gon and Jett arrive at the edge of the city and enter Zetsu. Jett knew that some people could detect others' presence; you would be worried if someone suddenly disappeared from your range. It was the same thing that had happened to Killua in the original story when he sneaked in to look at Hisoka's opponent.
Nothing happened, and Jett and Gon waited for only half the night. Jett thought that night would most likely be when the Troupe could move without being noticed. He wouldn't be wrong in his thinking if the Phantom Troupe were just a regular group of people afraid of being caught.
They soon returned to the hotel; Leorio and Killua were awake and waiting for them, wanting to know if they had any information, but sadly, they didn't. The next day, it was Killua and Leorio's turn to go to the city's edge and wait to see if they spotted any members from the posters.
Gon and Jett entered the market. While they didn't have to wait on the city's outskirts, they wanted to search the town to see if they spotted a troupe member. They didn't require as much money as before since they had already planned how to get the game. However, money was still valuable and could be used in other situations. While they walked around the market, Gon asked why some of the objects in the stall had different numbers, which Jett identified as a bid for the items.
As a habit, Gon and Jett train their Nen techniques even when doing mundane things in their everyday life. In that situation, Gons used Gyo; in doing so, he spotted a knife emitting Nen. "Jett, look, this knife had Nen," Gon said to Jett, who was also looking at the items in the stalls.
"Interesting, this knife might be valuable," Jett commented. "Really, why?" Gon asked.
"Well, you know how Nen works, right, Gon?..." Jett said.
"Nen is emitted by concentration, is like when doing water divination, you have to focus on emitting Nen into the cup; Nen is an expression of a person's emotion; if the person was concentrating on making this knife, then it means they were putting all their focus in making it, which could mean that this knife was crafted by someone famous on their craftsmanship. The knife could have been made by someone famous..." Jett explains.
"I think I get it..." Gon said, steam coming from the top of his head.
"There could be more items like this one. Let's search for more," Jett said. If Killua had been there, he would have identified the knife as a knife that a serial killer used. Later, after obtaining more of the Nen items, they took them to the hotel. Gon and Jett had spent their day buying different items that had Nen. It took them most of the day, so they would have to leave the items authentication to Killua and Leorio.
Like in the original story, Killua identified the knife that Gon and Jett bought. As it turned out, it was a knife used by a serial killer. Killua explains that the serial killer made one knife for each time he killed; they held one out of 288 knives. Jett wasn't surprised that Killua knew a famous knife that was used in a murder; he did come from a renowned family of assassins, after all.
"Did you guys know it was a famous knife," Killua asked.
"No, when I was practicing Gyo, I saw a tiny aura from the knife," Gon explained.
"Gyo?" Leorio asked, looking at Jett, but Jett didn't bother and only gave him and you an idiot look.
"Oh! This is a good way to search for rare objects," Killua exclaims.
"Those were my thoughts exactly, so we searched and found a few of them," Jett interjected.
"So all of these items..." Killua said, activating Gyo to look at the item on the floor.
"Yes, although we are going to have to leave it to the group that has to stay back to sell or see if any of them are valuable," Jett said.
"That reminds me, someone was bidding for one of the items," Jett remembered how someone was bidding for the same item.
"Do you think they will try something," Killua said, giving a dangerous look.
"Unlikely, we try to bait them into trying something, but this thing could be expensive, so just keep an eye out for anything," Jett said, holding an ugly sculpture.
"Then it is time to decide the next group, which means..." Gon said with a serious face.
"Rock, Paper, Scissors," Gon shouted.
"Damn, how do I keep losing!" Killua said, gritting his teeth.
"Then it is decided, it is going to be Gon and I again, while you guys will go and sell the items while also keeping watch for a member of the Spider," Jett said.
"I set up a bounty for any information related to Spider and Killua, and I will check if there is any useful information," Leorio said. Jett had also considered doing the same, but after thinking about it, he decided against it. They knew the location of the spiders' hideout, so it was only a matter of time for one or two of them to appear.
Gon and Jett found themselves at the edge of the city again. Jett wore a black hoodie with a red skull design with white wings at its side, and his shorts were dark red; Gon wore his usual green outfit. Jett wanted to hide in the shadows, so he wore dark clothes. The night was dark, and only the light of the moon provided visibility. Gon and Jett both stood on a tall building, sticking to the shadows.
"You know, Jett..." Gon said after a long moment of silence.
"Yes?" Jett asked.
"I still don't know what to do after finding my father. Killua said he didn't know what to do, so I told him he could stay with me, but I don't know what I want to do after..." Gon said.
"Then, I can tell you the same thing you told Killua. Just stay with me. After I help you find your dad and solve the mess with the people after me, I plan to travel the world because I discovered something interesting about this world, Gon," Jett said. In the darkness, Gon saw Jett smile as if he had just found the most interesting thing in the world. He was also happy about what Jett just said.
"What did you find?" Gon asked.
"Can you see it over there, the horizon?" Jett asked. Gon looked into the distance, where the glimmering stars met the earth.
"I can see it," Gon said.
"Then what if I told you the world you know isn't actually how big it is, that the map you see is only a small part of the world," Jett said.
"What, how do you know?" Gon question.
"It would take a long time to explain it, but trust me, this world is much bigger than what is shown on the maps. I don't know who is hiding that information and why, but I know that there is more to this world, and I want to explore it; I want to be the first one to explore the whole world and have an epic fight against strong opponents," Jett explains with enthusiasm.
"So Gon, if after you find your father and don't know what you want to do, then come with me, come with me and explore the unknown. We can have a great adventure together, and I'm sure Killua will also want to come along," Jett said.
A gleam of emotion passes by Gon's eyes, unnoticed by Jett. Gon didn't know what he wanted to do, but he knew he wanted to stay with Jett and Killua.
"Get down; I can see someone," Jett said, shaping Gon out of his thoughts. Jett could see two silhouettes walking at a distance between the run-down buildings.
"I see them; let's go," Gon said, ready to attack.
"Stop. We can't right now. We know they are coming into the city. We will only follow and see where they are going. Let Killua and Leorio know; we need to plan how to capture them," Jett said, stopping Gon by grabbing him by the shoulder.
