Chapter 26: 26: The First Gym Battle
"Misty, are you ready?" Ryn asked in a low voice.
"I'm ready. Turn around. First, I have a few questions for you," Misty replied.
Upon hearing that Misty was ready, Ryn slowly turned around.
Ryn had already prepared himself for a slap, but the expected slap never landed on his face.
This caught Ryn off guard.
However, since he didn't get slapped, Ryn was naturally happy.
Looking at Misty, who had already changed her clothes, Ryn asked, "Misty, what questions do you want to ask? I won't lie."
Although Misty didn't slap Ryn, her expression toward him was still cold.
It was very cold.
"How did you get in?" Misty asked coldly.
"I asked Nurse Joy for the key."
"Before that, I knocked on the door several times, but I didn't hear your voice. I thought something might have happened to you, so I decided to open the door and check if you were still in the room. If you weren't there, I was going to call Officer Jenny."
After hearing Ryn's explanation, Misty's expression softened slightly.
After sorting out the sequence of events, Misty also came to a similar conclusion that it must have been a mistake.
However, she couldn't rule out the possibility that Ryn was lying.
Although Misty did have feelings for Ryn, that didn't mean she could unconditionally trust everything he said.
After all, they had only been traveling together for a few days.
You can't judge a book by its cover, and when traveling, Misty knew it was best to stay vigilant.
Taking a deep breath, Misty's voice remained cold.
"Alright, I'll verify your story with Nurse Joy later. If it doesn't match up with what you said, you should be ready to get arrested by Officer Jenny and sent to jail."
With that, Misty walked past Ryn, opened the door, and hurried past Meowscarada toward the first floor of the Pokémon Center.
Ryn scratched his head and awkwardly smiled at Meowscarada. "This is a mess. I didn't expect Misty to be taking a shower. I wonder how this will turn out."
"Meow meow~"
Meowscarada embraced Ryn, using her warm body to comfort him.
After holding him for a moment, Meowscarada heard hurried footsteps at the staircase and realized Misty had returned, so she released Ryn.
Sure enough, as soon as Meowscarada let go of Ryn, Misty appeared at the door.
After rushing up and down the stairs, Misty was a bit out of breath.
However, it was clear that Misty had obtained the information she wanted from Nurse Joy.
Judging by her expression, Misty no longer had the cold demeanor from earlier; she was just a bit unhappy, after all, her body had been seen by a boy.
Any girl would feel embarrassed in such a situation.
"Close the door."
After saying that, Misty walked past Ryn and entered the room.
Ryn and Meowscarada exchanged glances, and finally Ryn followed Misty inside.
Meowscarada closed the door, leaving the space to the two of them.
"Misty…"
Sitting on the bed, Misty kept her head down, so Ryn couldn't see her expression.
"Just now…"
"Hm?"
Misty's voice was too muffled for Ryn to hear clearly at first.
"Were you serious about what you just said!" Misty blushed and shouted at Ryn.
Having been taken advantage of by Ryn, Misty, with her personality, had to get her revenge, even if the method was a bit unusual.
Thinking about how Ryn had seen her naked body, Misty felt extremely ashamed.
After all, she had only known Ryn for about a week.
How could a relationship between a man and a woman be confirmed so quickly?
If her three older sisters found out, they would definitely mock her for being too easy to handle.
"Just now? Oh, oh, oh!" Ryn thought for a moment and immediately understood what Misty meant by "just now."
It was obviously about the promise he had made to take responsibility.
"Of course, the promise I made still stands."
"Good to know. Let's go have breakfast, and after that, I'll accompany you to the Pewter Gym." After saying that, Misty immediately got out of bed and quickly left the room.
She needed some time to calm down.
After all, the relationship between her and Ryn had changed too quickly.
After Misty left, Ryn let out a heavy sigh of relief, followed by excitement.
Because the extra-large tent he had bought will be finally useful!
After breakfast, Ryn and Misty arrived at the Pewter Gym.
The gym leader of the Pewter Gym was the closed eyed, dark-skinned Brock.
His personality was same as in anime.
"Ash hasn't arrived in Pewter City yet? That guy must still be in Viridian Forest," Ryn muttered to himself.
"Ryn, go for it!"
Just as Ryn was distracted, Misty on the observation platform cheered him on.
It seemed that on the way to the Pewter Gym, Misty had already come to terms with him and was no longer troubled by what had happened before.
"Meow!"
Not only Misty, but Meowscarada beside her was also cheering for him.
Meanwhile, Brock watched the interaction between Ryn and Misty. Though his face remained expressionless, his heart was filled with bitterness.
Why could kids find love so easily nowadays, while his love is nowhere to be found?
How unfair!
"Rule: 2v2. No problem, right?"
"Of course, no problem." Ryn nodded.
"Alright, then my first Pokémon is this one, go, Onix!"
As Brock's Poké Ball expanded and opened, a flash of white light appeared, revealing a large rock snake like Pokémon.
Looking at the Onix before him, Ryn chose to send out his Scyther.
"Scyther, get ready to battle!"
"You're choosing Scyther to battle my Onix?" Brock nodded slightly, clearly having noticed Ryn's intentions.
Scyther, being a Bug and Flying-type Pokémon, is vulnerable to Rock-type moves, which have a quadruple effect on it.
However, Scyther can also learn Fighting-type moves.
Such as Brick Break.
And Brock's guess was spot-on.
Ryn had indeed taught Scyther Brick Break.
After all, he had TMs and discs. He had bought all the cheap moves, but the expensive ones, like Hyper Beam, he couldn't afford.
Once he had the money, he could buy them all.
Moreover, Gym battles were not League matches, so there was no restriction on using only four moves in a battle.
"Scyther, use Sword Dance!"
On Ryn's command, Scyther raised its blade-like arms, spinning, blades moving against the air.
Hearing Ryn's command, Brock furrowed his brows. He didn't understand why Scyther used Sword Dance at the start.
Wasn't he afraid Onix would use Rock Throw?
New trainers, without battle experience, made countless mistakes.
Brock sighed in his heart, then gave his command.
"Onix, use Rock Throw to end it!"
"Roar!"
Onix roared, slamming its stone tail on the ground, cracking the arena, sending rocks flying.
The ground shattered, stones flew in an arc, going towards Scyther.
Ryn shouted, "Scyther, keep Sword Dance and dodge!"
Thanks to yesterday's battles all morning and afternoon, Ryn wasn't sweating nervously like his first fight. He was getting used to it.
As Brock gave his command, Ryn quickly told Scyther what to do.
"Scy!"
Spinning with Sword Dance, Scyther dodged all Onix's attacks, each dodging her heart-pounding, grazing the rocks' edges.
If a rock was larger, it'd hit Scyther, causing huge damage.
After dodging all Onix's attacks, Scyther's attack reached the limit.
Its two blades glowing with cold, sharp light.
Even a rock can be sliced by Scyther's blades.
Brock was stunned by Ryn's style. Such a fast dodging needed long training. He muttered, "I didn't expect this, using Sword Dance while dodging. I underestimated him."
Realizing he misjudged Ryn, Brock dropped his casual attitude, his expression serious.
Brock aimed to go all out. It was late, but he hoped to recover.
"Onix, use Bind to grab Scyther!"
"Too late, Scyther, use Brick Break!"
Facing Onix's fast tail, Scyther wasn't fazed, its blades glowing coldly.
As the tail neared, Scyther's blades darkened.
Scyther swung its blades fast.
As Scyther's blades struck Onix's tail, Onix cried in pain, its tail stopping and retracting.
On Onix's tail, a deep 3-centimeter-long knife mark was left behind.
