Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Crookshanks and the Pygmy Puff

Dolly didn't witness the famous scene of Harry choosing his wand.

Because Ollivander only served one person at a time. Although Dolly also wanted to see the process of Harry choosing his wand, she had to respect the rules.

Hagrid stood at the door waiting for a while, then seemed to think of something and turned towards Eeylops Owl Emporium.

He was obviously going to buy a pet for Harry. Hedwig was Hagrid's gift to Harry.

This made Dolly think about whether she should get a pet too.

Hogwarts allowed students to bring an owl, a toad, or a rat as a pet, but it was not required.

Pets were mainly for use in Transfiguration class, and owls were for students to send and receive mail conveniently.

But if you didn't have your own pet, Hogwarts would provide the necessary materials, and you could use the school's communal owls.

That's right.

Dolly suddenly thought of something, pulled her parents, and walked towards the other side of Diagon Alley.

That was where the Magical Menagerie was located.

"Dolly."

Petunia was a little uneasy and whispered, "Is it okay for us to wander around on our own?"

Dolly reassured Petunia. "Mum, actually, most wizards are not much stronger than ordinary people in a fight."

"Although every wizard knows magic, most wizards are not even proficient in using common spells."

"Not to mention those spells that harm people. Such magic is generally more difficult."

"What's more, the magical world has Aurors and the Ministry of Magic."

"Aurors are the most magically proficient group in the magical world. They can appear anywhere at any time to subdue criminals who want to do wrong."

Petunia's eyes lit up. "Like Professor McGonagall?"

"Exactly! Just like the superheroes in comics and movies!"

Dolly's words put Petunia and Vernon at ease, although Dolly herself didn't believe it.

Aurors were indeed high-level wizards, but compared to the vastness of the magical world, their numbers were just too small. They had no time to deal with small matters like street crime.

The three of them arrived at the Magical Menagerie. They pushed the door open, and the bell above it rang melodiously.

As soon as they entered, the three of them smelled a complex, soft odor.

It wasn't particularly unpleasant, but it was certainly uncomfortable.

The whole shop was very crowded, with cages of all kinds, containing a large number of strange-looking animals.

For example, poisonous orange snails, a large tortoise with a shell studded with jewels, sleek and clever black rats, ravens, cats of various colors, Pygmy Puffs, transforming rabbits, and so on.

The female shopkeeper could tell at a glance that the three were not wizards, so she immediately said, "Hey, sirs and ladies."

"Please stand behind the yellow line and do not try to touch the animals here. Many of them are poisonous and even have the ability to permanently harm people."

"If this young lady wants to choose a pet, we have toads and rats over here."

Seeing the fearful expression on Dolly's face at the mention of toads and rats, she quickly added, "Cats are a good choice too, aren't they? For example, this one looks very energetic."

The three of them looked and immediately saw a large, ginger-colored cat.

It had a squashed face, as if it had run headfirst into a wall at some point, and a fat, bottle-brush-like tail.

These were all characteristics of a Persian cat.

However, this cat was not an ordinary Persian cat.

Persian cats are gentle in nature, and adult Persian cats are even more lazy and inactive.

But this Persian cat, after making eye contact with the group, began to pace restlessly in its cage, even looking eager to get out.

Obviously, it had a liveliness that ordinary Persian cats lacked.

"What's its name?"

"Crookshanks."

The female shopkeeper replied with a smile, confirming Dolly's suspicion.

This was Hermione's future pet. Hermione was supposed to buy it two years later because Crookshanks had been in the pet shop for a long time and no one wanted to buy him, making his situation very pitiable.

If Dolly bought him now, she could use the pet as a way to easily build a friendship with Hermione, right?

As for why she was preparing so early... because it was Hermione!

This was the movie version of the world, so Hermione was also different from the description in the novel; she was a girl who was pleasing to the eye.

And although Dolly was a girl, her heart also liked girls.

Such a preference was difficult to express in her previous life, but in this life, she could be a bit bolder.

After all, this was Britain. Same-sex love was not a big deal here, was it?

Of course, how to turn Hermione was also a big problem.

Dolly hadn't thought about that yet, but there was no need to rush.

No matter how old Dolly was psychologically, if she wanted to do something, she would have to wait at least until the year of the Triwizard Tournament.

"Very well. I've decided to buy it."

Dolly swaggered, shaking her money pouch, from which came the crisp sound of clinking Galleons.

This scene made the shopkeeper beam with joy. She immediately began to change Crookshanks to a new cage and prepare a full set of equipment and supplies.

This was a common money-making tactic for pet shops. Dolly saw through it but didn't expose it.

After all, it was just a matter of a few more Galleons. Dolly, with her huge sum of two hundred Galleons, didn't need to waste her breath on such matters.

However, carrying Crookshanks, Dolly was still a little dissatisfied.

She did like cats, but she liked magical creatures even more.

She wondered if she could keep a magical creature as a pet now.

The female shopkeeper, once again reading Dolly's mind, immediately said, "Actually, there are some pets that even students like you can keep without a license."

"You just can only keep them in the magical world or at Hogwarts; you can't take them to the Muggle world."

With that, the female shopkeeper recommended two types to Dolly.

Pygmy Puffs and transforming rabbits.

The transforming rabbit was a white rabbit with magical properties that could constantly change between a rabbit form and a silk top hat form.

However, that was all it could do, which quickly made Dolly lose interest.

On the other hand, the Pygmy Puff made Dolly feel a little reluctant to let go.

The Pygmy Puff was covered in creamy yellow soft fur and was spherical in shape.

It didn't mind being hugged or thrown around and was very easy to care for, eating anything from spiders to leftovers.

However, sometimes, a very long, thin, pink tongue would pop out from the middle of its body, darting around the room like a snake in search of food.

This scene was originally a bit scary, but because the Pygmy Puff was only the size of a fist, it looked rather comical and cute.

Even Vernon and Petunia couldn't help but touch it, which showed how harmless this animal was.

"Very well. I want one... no, a whole litter."
