Chapter 248: Chapter 248: The Collision Incident
As the tension in the room reached a standstill, an unexpected guest appeared at the doorway—
Lucius Malfoy, the perennial benefactor whose vast wealth had long since eroded Minister Fudge's morals and intellect with remarkable success.
"I didn't expect such a crowd here," he remarked, his usual air of arrogance intact, holding a brand-new wand in hand. "Cornelius, I originally came to discuss a matter of donations with you."
Fudge's face instantly brightened, his mood shifting completely. With a sycophantic smile, he eagerly pulled out a chair to invite Lucius to sit.
"However," Lucius drawled, deliberately pausing for effect, "I must first address the assets I have stored at Gringotts. I've heard that many wizards were injured, high-security vaults were damaged, and even one of my son's classmates has gone missing—this is deeply concerning."
"The Ministry of Magic is already on top of this," Fudge replied nervously, rubbing his hands together. "Director Bones is preparing to send Aurors to the scene, isn't that right, Amelia?"
"Glad to have your approval," Bones nodded, seizing the unexpected opportunity as she swiftly exited the room.
"And I was just about to summon Hopkirk from the Office for the Detection of Underage Magic! She specializes in using the Trace to detect magic performed by underage wizards. I'm confident we'll locate Miss Yu in no time!" Fudge added.
"Then I'll leave it to Mrs. Hopkirk," Dumbledore said, his expression softening as he cast a curious glance at Lucius.
Lucius maintained his haughty demeanor, offering a slight nod in acknowledgment. Having successfully played both sides, he concealed his triumph with practiced composure.
"Headmaster Dumbledore, perhaps we could discuss my son Draco's altercations at school later?"
"Of course," Dumbledore nodded, having already deduced Lucius's intentions. His mood lifted slightly, and for a moment, even Malfoy's arrogance seemed less irksome.
He hurried off to the Office for the Detection of Underage Magic, determined to trace any signs of magic performed by Jane Yu.
But no one could have foreseen—
Throughout Britain, no trace of her could be found.
It was as if she had vanished entirely from the country.
...
Meanwhile, as Dumbledore scrambled for answers, the subject of everyone's heated discussions, Jane Yu—
Was in the midst of a thrilling and nerve-wracking parent-child adventure.
The iron-bellied dragon seemed to regard her as a fellow hatchling, treating her with remarkable gentleness.
Not only did it hunt and bring back large quantities of raw meat—
It even tore the meat into pieces and attempted to feed her directly.
When she refused, it learned to start fires and cook food for its "child."
Such a kind-hearted dragon made it difficult for her to resist the urge to send it to the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary.
Thus, she and the dragon had crossed the English Channel, traversed plains and mountains...
Though she had no sense of direction, she pressed on...
But she knew she was somewhere in Europe.
Lying flat on the dragon's back, Jane Yu occasionally glanced downward, scanning for signs of human activity.
Whenever they reached remote mountains or vast forests, they would stop to drink water, roast meat, and rest for a while.
"We should stop here," Jane Yu patted the dragon's neck, attempting to communicate.
She pointed to the sprawling mountain range below, its snowy peaks suggesting it might be the Alps.
This area was remote, with lakes and forests—ideal for hunting.
Perhaps she could summon mermaids to ask for directions.
The dragon beneath her let out a long, resonant roar, its scales shimmering as it glanced downward before diving abruptly.
It had understood the hatchling's intention—she wanted it to launch an air-to-ground strike on the buildings below, using its flames and body.
Once locked onto its target, the dragon's dive was as swift as a missile, leaving the battle-hardened Jane Yu feeling utterly disoriented.
She clung tightly to its neck, fearing she might fall and meet a gruesome end.
"Wait—stop—STOP—!"
But as she saw—
It was already too late. The dragon opened its massive jaws, unleashing a torrent of flames directly at the buildings below.
With a deafening crash, the once-towering castle spire wobbled and collapsed, disintegrating mid-air and crashing to the ground, shaking the mountains. Amid the flying dust, countless bricks and stones crumbled, reducing the castle to ruins. The interior was exposed, with burning fabrics and wooden furniture, and even stone beds melting away.
"Brake—STOP—I didn't mean to rest here!"
Jane Yu felt the dragon beneath her slam heavily into the wall!
She tightly shut her eyes, feeling dirt and stones plaster her face once again. Only when the noise subsided did she dare to open her eyes.
But the moment she did, she saw the dragon flick something long and black with its claws—
And that thing flew straight out!
Her eyes widened in horror, and thanks to her excellent vision, she saw the full shape of the object—
It was an old man!
Now she was in deep trouble—she had killed someone!
