"Ow!" A cry of pain came from Fred.
"Are you two alright?" George flew to their side.
Thank Merlin, the tremendous impact hadn't knocked them off the broom. First-year Orli was quite petite, while Fred was a Beater with strong arms - both had managed to avoid serious injury.
However, Orli was badly shaken, and Fred - the collision had broken his arm.
When Fred and George finally brought her back to the ground, Orli had never felt so relieved to have her feet on solid earth.
"Thank you so much," Orli said to the twins with heartfelt gratitude, as if she'd just escaped death. "If it weren't for you, I probably would have broken my neck."
Fred's arm was still twisted at an unnatural angle, making Orli wince just looking at it. "We need to get to the Hospital Wing to see Madam Pomfrey right away!"
"How remarkable, Miss Waters seems to possess such self-awareness that she even knows she would break her neck," a voice Orli knew all too well, but desperately wished not to face, suddenly cut through the air behind her.
Snape and Malfoy had materialized in the middle of the field, the platinum blond head looking insufferably smug at Orli, clearly anticipating her expulsion alongside Harry.
"Professor, I didn't mean to fly up there, there was something wrong with Harry's broom..." Orli tried to explain while scanning the grounds for the broom, but the rogue broomstick had vanished.
"I can testify - that broom was stuck to Orli's hand earlier, she couldn't shake it off no matter what," Hermione declared loudly, stepping beside Orli.
"It must have been Malfoy! I'm sure he was behind this!" Ron glared accusingly at Malfoy.
"Oh? But I only saw Waters soaring into the sky, while Draco obediently remained on the ground," Snape drawled in an infuriatingly silky tone.
"For Waters' unauthorized flying and the Weasleys' dangerous actions, ten points from Gryffindor!"
"Wait, Professor, I'm sorry, it was my fault," Orli said frantically. "You can take points from me, but Fred and George were only trying to save me! I would have died if not for them! Please don't take points from them!"
"Hm." Snape's lip curled into a sneer. "Then, George Weasley, Fred Weasley, perhaps you can explain why, as third years, you don't know how to use a Slowing Charm, Levitation Charm, or Cushioning Charm? Or did you think playing the hero in mid-air would be more... impressive?"
"Professor!" Orli started to protest, but Hermione tugged at her sleeve from behind. She bit her lip and lowered her head.
Snape scoffed softly and swept away with Malfoy in his wake.
"I'm sorry for getting you in trouble and losing points," Orli said to Fred and George, still biting her lip. "Let's get to the Hospital Wing quickly, your arm must be hurting terribly."
"It's nothing, just a minor issue. Madam Pomfrey can fix this with a flick of her wand," Fred said, forcing lightness into his tone.
He seemed to want to pat Orli's shoulder, but one hand was holding his broom and the other was broken. In the end, he just made an awkward waving gesture before hurrying off to the Hospital Wing with George.

Extra Scene - Snape's Perspective
Returning from gathering herbs in the Forbidden Forest's depths, I encountered Draco running towards me, shouting with absolutely no sense of dignity:
"Professor! Look! A Gryffindor has flown up illegally!"
Hmph, how typical. Every year some disobedient first-years break their limbs in their first flying lesson. If it's Potter, I wouldn't be surprised in the least.
"Who is it?"
"It was Potter earlier, but McGonagall's already taken him away. Now it's Waters! And the Weasley twins too!" Draco's face was alight with excitement. I narrowed my eyes.
Waters?
I had thought her mental capacity might marginally exceed that of the average Gryffindor troll.
Just as I emerged from the forest, I witnessed Waters leap from a broom, only to be caught by one of the Weasleys.
What a spectacle.
Falling from a flying broomstick and breaking one's neck - how fitting a foolish death for a Gryffindor.
I lowered my raised wand, dissolving the Cushioning and Levitation Charms I had been about to cast.
I'd relish docking Gryffindor 50 points in one go, but I have no desire to debate such trivialities with Dumbledore.
Was there truly something amiss with that broom?
Troublesome. This warrants investigation.
Quirrell has been behaving increasingly suspiciously, and Dumbledore insists on keeping that cursed stone in the school. This incident might even have connections to Potter.
"Draco, tell me precisely what transpired during the flying lesson before my arrival. Don't omit a single detail, especially regarding that broom."
