Chapter 193: Chapter 193: Waiting (1)
The moment Orli stepped onto the threshold of the Waters Family House, Dobby was already there to greet her. His tennis-ball-sized green eyes sparkled with joy, and he looked positively elated. He wore a miniature chef's outfit with a tall white hat perched precariously atop his large ears, and his thin, elongated hands waved a spatula enthusiastically.
"Dobby: Miss Orli is home!~ Miss Orli is home!~ I've prepared all kinds of food—roast chicken, pies, lemon tarts, and even that Muggle dish you mentioned in your letter, 'piza?' Dobby has learned it! Dobby found a Muggle recipe!"
Orli: "That's fantastic, Dobby! It's called 'pizza!'"
Orli followed him inside, where the dining table was already laden with an array of delicious dishes, their tantalizing aromas filling the air.
The house had undergone a remarkable transformation under Dobby's care. The old, worn bed curtains, wallpapers, and carpets had been replaced, and the windows had been upgraded to larger, more luminous ones, making the entire space feel airy and inviting. A vase on the corner of the table held roses and camellias, still glistening with dew, freshly cut from the garden. The once overgrown and neglected garden had been transformed into a picturesque haven, where Dobby had planted several commonly used potion-making herbs as per her instructions.
As Orli surveyed the surroundings, a sudden thought crossed her mind: Would he like it?
Her gaze shifted back to Dobby. She vividly remembered last summer when Harry had stayed for just one night, and Dobby had incessantly muttered about "the young lady's reputation" afterward. If he found out that Snape was about to stay for two whole months... Orli shivered slightly as she sank into the dining chair. Perhaps it was because she had been raised by Polly, but despite Dobby's lack of real authority over her, those big, round eyes of his always made her feel slightly guilty.
Orli: "Dobby..."
She hesitated, her words catching in her throat.
Dobby: "Miss Orli, what is it? Is there something wrong with the food?"
Dobby's eyes widened in alarm, and his ears drooped.
Orli: "Oh no, you've done an excellent job. I just have a new task for you..."
After a moment's thought, Orli continued:
Orli: "You know there's a Quidditch World Cup coming up in August, right? I need you to go to the area around the campsite ahead of time and keep an eye on things there. Do you understand?"
She recalled the sequence of events: Barty Crouch Jr. would attempt to escape during that match but ultimately be taken back home by his father. The house-elf Winky, who had been guarding him, would be dismissed afterward. Later, Voldemort and Wormtail would locate their home and use the Imperius Curse to control Mr. Crouch. Under Voldemort's orders, Wormtail and Barty Jr. would subdue Moody, and Barty Jr. would impersonate the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor using Polyjuice Potion, waiting for the chance to bring Harry Potter to Voldemort's resurrection ritual.
Since Peter Pettigrew had already escaped, the only way to prevent Voldemort's resurrection was to intervene with Barty Crouch Jr.
Dobby: "A new task! Miss Orli has given me a new task!"
Dobby's ears immediately perked up again, and he positively glowed with enthusiasm.
Orli: "Yes, a new task. Harry and his friends will be attending the match as well, you know. There are still plenty of Death Eaters out there who'd like to harm Harry. You can familiarize yourself with the area in advance and help me protect Harry when the time comes."
Orli dangled Harry as the ultimate bait. Expecting Snape to take her to the Quidditch World Cup was clearly out of the question, and she hadn't yet figured out how to involve Dobby in dealing with Barty Crouch Jr. without revealing her "prophetic" knowledge. For now, sending Dobby ahead seemed the best course of action. Plus, it would prevent him from uttering anything peculiar that might irritate Snape.
Dobby: "Dobby, Dobby will keep a close watch on the area! Not a blink, not even once!"
With an excited squeal, Dobby vanished into thin air.
Finally, Orli exhaled deeply, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. She quickly finished the food on her plate before dashing upstairs to prepare the guest room.
