Chapter 32: Magical Gene Defect

"Malfoy cast a curse on me," said Dudley. "I knew he wouldn't stop, so the fight broke out."

"So, did Professor Snape stop the fight?" asked Hermione.

"Yeah, he stopped it, but I decided that both he and Malfoy needed to be taught a lesson," Dudley said. "So I fought them."

Susan, who was listening to Dudley's explanation, still remembered the day Dudley fought Professor Snape. It was a spectacle, one of the most intense duels she had ever seen. Although Dudley overpowered Professor Snape, he still only used spells below a fourth-year level.

She thought for sure that he would be expelled from Hogwarts. However, the next day, Dudley walked into the Hufflepuff common room and told her that Dumbledore had decided to forgive him, and Professor Sprout had assigned him two months of detention.

Then something happened during Hufflepuff's Potions class. Dudley was always disturbed and mocked by Professor Snape, but Dudley didn't care. He stayed focused on his potion and ended up with the best mixture.

"I was there with Dudley," said Susan. "He's telling the truth."

"Haha, thanks, Susan," Dudley said gratefully. "So, back to the topic of Squibs—some pureblood families, like the Weasleys, have magical potential. The reason some purebloods hate them so much is because of their ability to have so many magical children."

Harry's eyes widened as he listened to Dudley talk about his best friend. He had seen how many purebloods, like Malfoy, despised the Weasleys.

"But I thought they hated him because the Weasleys are one of the families that support Muggle-borns," said Harry.

"True, but that's not the main reason," Dudley said confidently. "One of the insults is, 'Look at the Weasleys—they don't have money but keep having kids.' This shows they're jealous of the Weasleys' ability to reduce the chance of their child become a squibs"

Magical Gene Defect...

Susan, who had overheard the conversation between pureblood, knew about the dark secrets involving pureblood families. She had also seen people who became squibs, and she was curious if Dudley knew why this happened.

"Dudley, do you know why some people become squibs?" asked Susan.

Dudley looked at her, recalling some fanfiction he had read in the past. He decided to share a theory based on his observations from those stories.

"Do you really want to know why it happens?" Dudley asked, seeking confirmation. Hearing this, not only Susan but also Hermione and Sirius became eager to know.

"Yes," Susan replied.

"This is just a theory, but I think it happens due to a magical defect," Dudley explained. "In the Muggle world, or no-maj as they call it, we've studied biology and how it impacts human life. Over the course of history, we've seen cases where siblings or cousins marry over generations."

"Wait, I know about this," Hermione chimed in, more intrigued. "Some kings became infertile because of inbreeding."

"Exactly, Hermione," Dudley continued. "So based on my observations, squibs happen because of inbreeding within pureblood families. For example, the Carrow siblings—despite being siblings, they chose to marry each other. You can also look at Harry." Dudley gestured towards Harry.

"Me?" Harry asked, touching his chest, confused.

"Yeah, you. Did you know Malfoy is actually your cousin?" Dudley revealed.

"What? I never knew that!" Harry said, baffled.

"Oh, you can check this house and find the Black family ancestry," Dudley continued.

"Wow, you've only been here once and already noticed the ancestry tapes?" Sirius Black said, impressed.

"Haha, observation is key," Dudley replied. "So I can conclude that wizards from pureblood families are actually cousins and they often marry close relatives."

"You're right," Sirius confirmed. "I've known this since I was young. There are only 28 sacred pureblood families, and they marry other purebloods to maintain their status. So cousin marriages happen, and sometimes they go to extremes, like the Carrow siblings deciding to marry each other."

"If Muggles marry their siblings or cousins over generations, they often have disabled children. But for wizards, it's different—they're more likely to produce a squib," Dudley concluded.

Susan and Sirius Black were deep in thought, while the Grangers, who were dentists, were even more amazed by Dudley's insight.

"Lily Evans, Harry's mother, was the first generation of wizards in her family. I believe if she were still alive and had ten children, all of them would be wizards," Dudley said. Harry, hearing his mother's name, became more interested.

"Is that true, Dudley?" Susan asked.

"It's just a theory, but you can see that many half-bloods are very powerful—take Professor Dumbledore, for example. Harry is also extremely powerful, being able to repel Dementors at the age of 13. Another example is the Dark Lord himself, who is a half-blood," Dudley explained.

"Is it because of their genes?" Hermione asked.

"Exactly. I believe you and I, Hermione, are first-generation wizards, or what some might call 'new blood.' Our magical abilities might become a tool to save the magical population.

Blood Type...

"There's another theory about blood types," Dudley said.

"Blood types? What are those?" asked a confused Sirius Black. Susan looked equally puzzled.

"My blood type is AB and I believe yours is too," Dudley said, pointing at Hermione.

"How... how do you know my blood type?" Hermione asked, shocked that Dudley knew something so personal like blood type.

"Because my blood type is AB, and I suspect that you, coming from a Muggle family, are also AB. Am I right?" Dudley asked.

But Hermione remained silent—she didn't know her own blood type.

"Yes, Hermione's blood type is AB," Mrs. Granger chimed in.

"Mom, when did I ever get a blood test?" Hermione asked, surprised.

"When you were a baby. We had some health concerns and decided to do a DNA test, which also revealed your blood type," Mrs. Granger replied.

'Blood test?' Dudley thought. 'Something seems off here. Did Mr. Granger suspect Hermione wasn't his daughter?'

"Ahem," Mr. Granger cleared his throat, trying to change the topic. "My blood type is B, and my wife's is A, so our daughter is AB."

"Alright, I see," Dudley said with a knowing smile, understanding what Mr. Granger was trying to cover up.
