Chapter 71: Loss(chapter 70)

Chapter 70

Rachel's Soul-Self shifted into a massive raven that swooped down, clawing at Trigon's face and momentarily blinding him. "Now!" she called telepathically to Grey. Grey responded instantly, summoning a demonic Stupefy. The spell crackled with infernal energy as it struck Trigon's head, leaving a smoldering scorch mark. "Push him!" Grey shouted, his voice filled with resolve. The two advanced relentlessly, their movements a seamless dance of destruction.

But Trigon's patience ran out. Rising to his full, colossal height, he unleashed a pulse of energy that distorted reality itself. The ground quaked, the sky cracked, and the very air shimmered with raw power. "Enough of this charade!" he thundered, his voice shaking the multiverse. Grey and Rachel were hurled back by the force, landing hard as Trigon loomed over them.

Rachel struggled to her feet, her energy reserves dwindling. "I'm running out of magic," she said telepathically, her voice laced with exhaustion. Grey, battered but unyielding, pushed himself up as well. "He's getting stronger," he replied, his tone grim. Despite their fatigue, they locked eyes and nodded. They weren't done yet.

But this time, Trigon didn't rely on his physical might. He raised his massive hands, chanting an ancient incantation that summoned a vortex of dark magic. The energy swirled and consumed everything in its path, forcing Rachel and Grey to retreat, their strength waning as they tried to counter the overwhelming assault. As the vortex expanded, Trigon's laughter echoed, triumphant and menacing. Grey clenched his fists, his determination unbroken even as the odds stacked against them. This fight was far from over.

The battlefield erupted into chaos as Trigon shed the constraints of brute force, his crimson form glowing with pulsating veins of raw magical energy. His towering frame exuded an aura of absolute power, and his six glowing eyes locked onto Grey and Rachel. There was no arrogance in his demeanor now—only cold, calculated destruction. His massive hand rose, and with a flick of his wrist, an Eldritch Blast shot forth, its sheer magnitude shaking the ground beneath them.

Grey barely had time to react as the energy streaked toward him. He crossed his arms, summoning a demonic Protego Maxima. The barrier of black flames surged into existence, its edges crackling with malevolent energy, but the Eldritch Blast was overwhelming. The force collided with the shield, shattering it in a deafening explosion that sent Grey hurtling backward. He crashed into the ground, a jagged trench forming from the sheer force of his impact.

Rachel fared no better. Her Soul-Self materialized as a shield, its raven-like wings enveloping her as the blast struck. The force of the attack pierced through, sending her skidding across the battlefield, leaving a deep, smoking gouge in the corrupted earth. As she staggered to her feet, her breathing ragged, Trigon launched another wave of magic. This time, his attacks were relentless, one after another, each blast faster and more destructive than the last.

Grey charged forward, roaring as he summoned a demonic Expelliarmus, the spell reshaped into a spiraling spear of hellfire. It surged toward Trigon, but the demon lord merely raised a hand. With a casual gesture, the spear disintegrated mid-flight, its fragments dissipating harmlessly into the void. Trigon retaliated instantly, conjuring a wave of jagged red tendrils that erupted from the ground. The tendrils lashed at Grey, wrapping around his limbs and dragging him down.

Rachel sprang into action, her eyes glowing with dark energy as she unleashed a barrage of Eldritch Blasts, each one infused with the last dregs of her demonic power. The attacks struck Trigon's chest and shoulders, forcing him to stagger slightly, but they only seemed to fuel his wrath. He turned his attention to her, his glowing eyes narrowing. With a wave of his hand, he summoned a colossal crimson hand of pure energy that swatted her out of the air like an insect. She hit the ground hard, coughing as she tried to rise.

Bloodied and bruised, Grey broke free from the tendrils, his hellfire surging as he rushed forward again. His fists glowed with infernal light as he struck at Trigon's leg, aiming to destabilize him. The first punch landed with an earth-shaking impact, creating a crater beneath Trigon's foot. The second punch followed swiftly, sending shockwaves through the air. But Trigon's strength was insurmountable. The demon lord barely flinched, raising his foot and slamming it down toward Grey.

Grey leaped back, narrowly avoiding being crushed, but he wasn't fast enough to evade the blast of chaos magic that followed. The attack struck his chest, sending him flying across the battlefield, his demonic form flickering under the strain.

Rachel, her energy depleted, crawled to her knees, her eyes wide with despair as she watched Trigon gather power for his next attack. He raised both hands, his fingers splayed as arcs of red and black energy coalesced between them. The chaotic magic twisted and contorted, forming a singularity that shimmered with unimaginable power. Time itself seemed to ripple around it, the air cracking with the sound of dimensions fracturing. The singularity expanded briefly before condensing into a single, impossibly dense point.

Rachel's heart sank. She turned to Grey, her mind racing. He lay on the ground, blood dripping from his lips, but his eyes were still blazing with determination. He met her gaze, a faint smirk crossing his face. Trigon unleashed the attack, and it tore through reality itself, a streak of destruction hurtling toward them.

Grey rose shakily to his feet, the ground trembling beneath him as he spread his arms. "Bring it on, bitch!" he roared, his voice defiant. But before he could act, Rachel surged forward.

"NO!" she screamed, her voice echoing with desperation. Summoning every ounce of magic she had left, she raised her arms. A massive barrier of purple energy erupted before them, shimmering and pulsating as it intercepted the blast. The singularity struck the barrier, and the force of the collision was catastrophic. The ground split apart, fissures radiating outward as the sky itself seemed to crack.

Rachel screamed in agony as the strain tore through her. Her body trembled violently, her demonic form breaking apart as her reserves drained entirely. The barrier held, but only just. Finally, the chaos magic dissipated, leaving behind a maelstrom of swirling energy.

Grey stared in shock as Rachel crumpled to the ground, her demonic form gone. Her body reverted to her cane form, which glowed faintly before cracking. Purple energy surged through it, jagged lines spreading like spiderwebs before the cane shattered, its fragments falling to the ground. Grey stood frozen, his face tightening with a mix of anger and despair as Trigon's booming voice echoed, "Pity, she would have made a good leader." The words pierced through him, the mocking tone igniting a rage that burned away any remnants of playfulness. Slowly, Grey stood up, his movements deliberate and measured. His face turned void of emotion, as if he were a corpse reanimated with purpose.
