HP: Chaos Sorceress of Hogwarts

Chapter 127: A Reckoning with Dumbledore

"Phew... I finally made it... Ugh! I hate moving staircases."

Clenching her teeth and pulling her right foot out of the sunken staircase, Elena looked up to see the monstrous stone statue that couldn't be seen from afar. It's so unwelcoming!

The ugly gargoyle had already moved aside, blocking directly the excuse Elena had planned to enter without a password.

Elena pondered again and, while reassuring other first-years, the simple act of taking food from the kitchen did not violate any known school rules.

Unless Dumbledore brazenly added new rules temporarily, then in theory, Dumbledore would have no reason to punish her, thus there was nothing to fear at all.

Thinking this through, the little silver-haired girl calmed down completely, straightened her clothes, and generously opened the wooden door to Dumbledore's office and entered.

"Good afternoon, dear Professor Dumbledore, it seems you were looking for me, right?"

Elena, as if nothing, kindly greeted the silver-bearded elder sitting behind the desk in the room.

Dumbledore glanced at a small, delicate hourglass on the table, raised his eyebrows, and gently corrected.

"Precisely, half an hour ago..."

"Apologies for keeping you waiting!"

The little half-blood nodded, cleared her throat, and admitted her mistakes with a sincere attitude, taking the old wizard by surprise.

Without giving Dumbledore time to react, the girl quickly straightened up, hands behind her back, and shyly twirled the tip of her right foot on the floor, explaining in a whisper.

"But you have to understand that this castle is so enchanting."

There's no such thing as getting lost. In this life, she won't admit she's crazy. She simply has a good sense of direction.

"..."

Dumbledore set aside the book he had in hand, raised his half-moon-shaped glasses, and looked silently at Elena who was "acting crazy," saying nothing.

This is one of the simplest and most effective forms of communication that has been gradually adding up in these days; otherwise, no matter what she says, she can deflect the topic.

Indeed, with Dumbledore's silent response, Elena, who was giving a monologue, quickly deflated like a balloon, and her lifeless, dull hair fell over her head.

"Professor Dumbledore, you have become increasingly boring recently, and that's not like you."

Elena pursed her lips playfully and sat in the chair in front of his desk.

"But... it works, doesn't it? So, is there something you wanted to explain?"

Dumbledore shrugged, a faint imperceptible smile peeked behind the glasses, and he looked closely at Elena's chest, asking in a low voice.

"Yes, yes."

Elena nodded hurriedly, cleared her throat, and confidently said, "Professor Dumbledore, I have carefully read 'The Code of Conduct Diary of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry' and 'The Hogwarts Student Handbook.' There is no mention of any rule or regulation about Penalties for Violating Norms. Students cannot enter the school cafeteria... At the same time, all our actions in the kitchen also align with the school..."

As an excellent student, after arriving at a new school, the first thing she must do is to familiarize herself with the school's discipline.

Long before the first-year students went to the kitchen to carry out the "theft," Elena had previously thought of Dumbledore's rhetoric, and quietly reviewed the manuscript several times on her way back.

Elena is at least ninety-nine percent certain that Dumbledore won't be able to find any obvious faults in the school rules.

"Thank you for reminding me, Miss Caslana."

Dumbledore patiently listened to Elena and nodded with a smile, "I understand all the rules and regulations of the school. To be precise, many of the terms I have created myself. After all, as time goes by, there will always be a variety of new problems, perhaps later I will supplement this aspect..."

"However, for now, everything you did in the kitchen with the first-year students has not violated any school rules. Therefore, I have no intention of imposing any punishment on you."

"Really?"

Elena blinked incredulously. This might be the smoothest communication she has had since the disaster, and she hasn't had the chance to use the plethora of arguments she originally prepared.

"Professor Dumbledore, you deserve to be the greatest and most far-sighted headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."

The little silver-haired girl narrowed her eyes joyfully, sparing no flattery for the old wizard, casually turned her head, and asked with some confusion, "So, the purpose of calling me, Professor Dumbledore..."

"Actually, I want to discuss something else."

Before the little loli could jump again with pride, Dumbledore's slender fingers entwined, and he said calmly, "Regarding the matter of a new student from Hufflepuff, who did not return home last night..."

"Huh?! This, that's because..."

As if caught off guard, the expression on the little silver-haired girl's face froze. Were they waiting for her here?!

Dumbledore's expression was very serious, and he looked down at the little witch in front of his twisted nose.

"You might find this interesting, but for everyone who was worried about you, it wasn't fun. You have no idea, Professor Pomona Sprout, to find you, searched every corner of the school over and over. It wasn't until midnight that we found out from the house-elves that there was another new student in the Gryffindor dormitory."

In reality, he had begun to worry more and more that one day she would make irreparable mistakes, just like Gellert and Tom.

"Oh."

Under the watchful gaze of the elder, Elena opened her mouth and mumbled a few words, obediently lowering her head, fidgeting with her fingers, and murmuring, "I know, I will return this set of Gryffindor robes I'm wearing. As for being confined, receiving punishments, copying phrases, or helping Mr. Filch, I accept your decision."

Long silence.

Then, beyond Elena's expectations, Dumbledore suddenly smiled and shook his head.

"None."

History has shown that strict interference or rigorous discipline are not ideal. Therefore, Dumbledore was willing to try something new, and it turned out that Elena also had some wonderful opportunities.

Dumbledore looked thoughtfully again at Elena's chest. The golden and red emblem of the Gryffindor house shone in the sun, reminding him of things that had happened many years ago.

"I did not intend to punish you, dear Miss Caslana."

"As you said before, the school should give some additional rewards to the little wizards who challenge conventional thinking and show bravery. In fact, in my opinion, you are a Gryffindor by birth, fully qualified to wear this Gryffindor uniform, but..."

Dumbledore smiled slightly, a glint of mischief shining in the blue eyes behind the half-moon spectacles.
