Chapter 316: Job Change
Blake stood in the mirror space, looking at the line of treasure chests before him. The system had already notified him about the various treasures, and while the lower-tier chests didn't promise much, Blake was still hopeful. He knew even small rewards could serve a purpose later on.
He first turned his attention to the bronze treasure chest. It wasn't the most exciting, but it might still contain something useful. He commanded the system to open it.
[Ding! The bronze treasure chest is being opened for the host!]
Blake waited as the system revealed the contents.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for getting fifty small hamburgers!]
Blake couldn't help but laugh. He had used quirky food rewards from the system to great effect in the past. He remembered tricking Professor Quirrell with similar food items. Though this seemed like a strange reward, it could always be put to good use.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for getting a pair of extremely fast flip-flops!]
Blake raised an eyebrow. He examined the flip-flops briefly, finding that they were enchanted for extreme speed. While they seemed absurd, Blake had learned that even the most bizarre items could become invaluable in certain situations.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for gaining mastery of intermediate piano skills!]
Blake blinked. He hadn't asked for this skill, but the system worked in mysterious ways. Intermediate piano skills didn't seem immediately useful, but it might provide a distraction or even a way to bond with others later on.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining ten roots of Chamaema aconitum!]
Blake smiled at this. Chamaema aconitum was a potent alchemical ingredient, useful in a wide variety of healing potions. This was a more practical reward, and he was eager to add the roots to his growing alchemy stockpile.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for getting five hundred pounds!]
This was straightforward. Muggle currency wasn't the most exciting reward, but Blake had found that it often came in handy. He could use the money to buy supplies in the Muggle world or trade with those who accepted it.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for getting five lumps of faeces from the Moon Crazy Beast!]
Blake grimaced. The reward was certainly strange and a little disgusting. Still, the system wouldn't give him something entirely useless, so Blake made a mental note to research the Moon Crazy Beast later. There had to be some alchemical or magical value to these... substances.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for getting a blueprint of the AK-47 assault rifle!]
This was surprising. While Blake didn't have immediate plans for it, the blueprint might be a valuable asset in the future, since he was still working on a way to combine Muggle technology with magic or alchemy.
Blake sighed after reviewing the bronze chest's rewards. They were strange, but some items—like the alchemical materials—would undoubtedly be useful. He stored everything in his inventory and turned his attention to the next chests: the silver treasure chest.
Silver chests always contained higher-quality rewards than bronze ones. Blake was hopeful this would yield something more immediately valuable.
[Ding! The silver treasure chest is being opened for the host!]
Blake watched as the notifications started rolling in.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining three Mithril ingots!]
Blake smiled broadly. Mithril was an incredibly valuable magical material, highly conductive and nearly indestructible. It was perfect for creating powerful alchemical items or weapons. These ingots alone made opening the silver chest worthwhile.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for getting one alchemical reagent of enhanced durability!]
Blake nodded. An enhanced durability reagent was excellent for potion-making, as it would strengthen the effects of whatever potion he added it to. He was already thinking of which potions he could use this with.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for gaining advanced mastery of potion-making!]
This was a major upgrade. Blake's potion-making skills were already strong, but this new mastery would elevate them to an entirely new level. He would be able to create more complex and powerful potions with greater ease. His mind was buzzing with the possibilities.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining Dragonhide Gloves!]
Blake inspected the gloves and slipped them on. Dragonhide was famously durable and resistant to both physical and magical attacks. These gloves would be invaluable when handling dangerous materials during his alchemical experiments or even in battle.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for getting a spell scroll: Lightning Bolt!]
Blake tucked the scroll away with a smile. Lightning Bolt was a powerful offensive spell, and it would be a great addition to his arsenal. He planned to study the scroll later and learn the spell for future confrontations.
The silver chest had provided more than he had hoped for valuable materials, advanced skills, and a powerful spell. Blake felt a surge of excitement as he looked at the next chest—the golden treasure chest. This was where the real rewards would start.
"Alright, golden chest, don't let me down," Blake said, taking a deep breath. He had been saving his luck potion specifically for this moment, hoping that it would tip the scales in his favour. With a steady hand, he opened the golden treasure chest.
He then focused on the golden chest, eager to see what treasures it held.
[Ding! The golden treasure chest is being opened for the host!]
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining a mutated giant spider egg!]
Blake smirked. He had released an Acromantula in the Forbidden Forest before, but this one seemed to have even more potential due to its mutation. He stored it, planning to hatch it later.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining a mutated devil's net seed!]
Devil's Snare, a dangerous magical plant, was now in his possession, albeit a mutated version. Blake looked forward to experimenting with it and seeing how the mutation altered its properties.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining the mastery of the ultimate magic wand!]
Blake winced, thinking about the wand he had just created recently. "If I'd known, I would've waited to make it…" He muttered, but this new mastery meant he could craft even more powerful wands in the future.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for getting a unicorn horn powder!]
Blake nodded. Unicorn horn powder was a rare and valuable ingredient, useful in a variety of potions and magical items. He stored it carefully, knowing he could make powerful calming potions with it.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining a top-quality battle puppet!]
Blake was impressed as he examined the fierce-looking puppet. It was crafted with intricate detail, its claws sharp and deadly. This was no ordinary puppet; it was a formidable fighter, and Blake was already considering ways to improve it.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining the ultimate mastery of Legilimency!]
Blake's smile widened. This was exactly what he needed—mastery of mind-reading without the need for eye contact. Like Queenie Goldstein, he would be able to read minds effortlessly, but with full control.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining the mastery of the best disarming spell!]
Blake scratched his head. "The ultimate Disarming Charm? I mean, it's useful, but… I'm not Harry Potter," he muttered. Still, a mastered Disarming Charm could come in handy in battle, even if it wasn't his first choice for a skill.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining the top-grade charm talent!]
Now this was something Blake appreciated. His talent in charms had always been somewhat average, so this new skill would drastically shorten the time it took him to master advanced spells.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for getting a voodoo doll!]
Blake inspected the doll. It was grotesque and unsettling, but the system's description was clear: a one-time-use item that could deal serious damage to a targeted individual by pricking the doll with a needle. The idea of using this against an enemy was... chilling.
Blake happily put away both the puppet and the unicorn horn powder.
Then he rubbed his hands together. He then looked at the two diamond treasure chests with fiery eyes and the sole Supreme Treasure Chest.
"System, first open a diamond treasure chest for me!"
[Ding! The diamond treasure chest is being opened for the host!]
The system began processing the contents, and Blake held his breath.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for getting a random template!]
A random template? Blake wasn't sure what that meant, but he decided to trust the system.
[Ding! Does the host use a random template?]
Blake nodded. "Use the random template."
[Ding! A random template is being drawn for the host!]
The system took a few moments before announcing the result.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for getting the Necromancer template!]
Blake's eyes widened in shock. The Necromancer template? This was serious power. Necromancers could control the dead, summon dark creatures, and wield powerful magic.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host! Necromancer template loaded successfully!]
[Ding! It is detected that the host Necromancer has reached the top level!]
[Ding! Would the host like to sacrifice his body, change his job to become a lich, and gain eternal life from now on?]
Blake felt his heart skip a beat. "Sacrifice my body? Become a lich?" he muttered. As tempting as eternal life sounded, the thought of losing his body and the pleasures of life was unappealing.
"No job change!" he quickly responded.
[Ding! The system has put the job change on hold for the host! You can change jobs at any time if necessary!]
Blake let out a sigh of relief. He wasn't ready to give up his humanity, but the new powers he had gained were undeniably enticing. With his inventory now full of rare items, powerful skills, and magical abilities, Blake felt more prepared than ever for the challenges ahead.
