chapter 6
6 – Part 6 – Tutorial (6)
Feeling like he had escaped quite a distance, he paused for a moment to catch his breath.
“Hoo…hoo…”
As I began to relax, I started to worry about what happened to the others.
“I hope that bastard Jo Chan-ho…is dead, but he’s probably fine…can’t imagine him dying because of a couple of monsters.”
The problem lies with the others. Kim So-young, who was attacked by the monsters first, has no chance of surviving. It was clear that she became the monsters’ meal.
“Hyung, my arm…”
“…It’s okay. It’s not torn off, just a little hurt. Let’s slowly move to another place for now.”
Come to think of it, when I killed the monster earlier, I received a notification that I obtained a job. I opened the status menu to check.
[ Name: Lee Yoon-seong ]

[ Job: You can choose a job from the list.

It seemed that rather than forcibly assigning a profession, there were various options presented, allowing one to choose. The issue was that I didn’t have any suitable profession to pick.
For now, excluding warrior and shield-bearer. Despite my stats showing a slight increase, perhaps due to the recent fight with a monster, it was clear that it was impractical for someone with a frail body like mine to wield a sword in battle or to protect allies with a shield.
An alchemist… unsure. Perhaps after the tutorial, but at this very moment, I hesitated to choose one as much as combat skills were required. Survival was the immediate concern.
“In the end, am I only left with the choice of being an archer or a dark sorcerer…?”
However, both archer and dark sorcerer posed problems. I didn’t even have a bow and arrow to start with, and the idea of me, who had never handled a bow before, becoming an archer felt daunting. While it might be less risky than a swordsman or a shield-bearer in actual combat, choosing to be an archer as someone who had never set foot in an archery range was not a decision to be taken lightly.
“A dark sorcerer… maybe being a dark sorcerer could be better. It bothers me that it’s not just a regular sorcerer but a dark one, but, other than Yoo Hyun, I haven’t seen anyone with magical abilities so far, except they were nonexistent.”
Yoo Hyun was exceptional; thus, just because the magical ability was zero, I didn’t believe I couldn’t learn magic at all by choosing to be a dark sorcerer. Opting for a dark sorcerer might increase magical abilities.
“Oppa… are you okay?”
“It’s okay… I’m just contemplating because I got a job now. It’s not like jobs are just given to us; we have to choose them.”
Yurim and Yuhyeon looked surprised. Since the two siblings hadn’t obtained a job yet, they probably didn’t know this fact. I didn’t know either until I received the notification and checked my status window. Perhaps when Yurim stabbed the monster’s back with a dagger earlier, but it was me who killed it, I obtained the job.
“It seems like getting a job by killing monsters is the way to go. A notification popped up as soon as I killed the monster earlier.”
“So, can Yuhyeon and I also get a job?”
“Yeah… Once I choose my job, let’s try hunting monsters together if the three of us can.”
If the three of us incapacitate one monster each and Yurim and Yuhyeon take a turn to finish off the monster, it should work.
But first, I needed to choose a job.
“Damn it… I don’t know what to choose. Can’t they give us more hints?”
I kept thinking, but no matter how hard I thought, I couldn’t bring myself to pick swordsman, shield-bearer, or archer. Because our starting point was different from the beginning.
I thought it would be better to go with a dark magician who could start at the same level.
The problem was that it said “dark magician” and not just “magician,” leaving me wondering why the job selection list had dark magician but not magician.
“No matter how much I think about it, I won’t find an answer.”
After multiple rounds of contemplation, I finally chose the dark magician.
[Congratulations. You have advanced to a dark magician. Your magical power attribute permanently increases by 3. Unique characteristics related to the dark magician are created.]

“Ugh…!”
Suddenly, along with a mild headache, information related to dark magic entered my mind.
“Hmm… Is this how you become able to use dark magic like this?”
It felt as though I was forcefully cramming textbook knowledge into my brain as if studying on Earth. My head throbbed a bit, and I felt a little dizzy, but gradually, it started to get better.
“Fire.”
As I imagined casting a spell in my mind, black flames ignited in my hand. The reason the flames were black was probably because I was a dark wizard.
“Wow…!”
Yoo Hyun exclaimed as he saw the flames. Yoo Rim, who was beside him, also seemed quite surprised as her eyes widened.
“Oppa… You’ve become a wizard?”
“Yeah… More precisely, a dark wizard. But I don’t think I can use this power too much. My head is already hurting quite a bit just maintaining these flames.”
I didn’t think I could use magic multiple times. My head hurt quite a bit. I believed it would get better as I became more proficient.
******
Bang!
I deflected and pushed back the approaching monster with my shield.
“Yoo Rim!”
With a swift strike, a monster with a dagger embedded in its side let out a painful cry.
Thunk!
After hacking off its legs with a blunt weapon, we managed to subdue the creature, rendering it immobile.
“Phew… Well done. I’ll draw its attention, and you attack like this from now on.”
Perhaps it was because it felt like our first hunt, but we were quite nervous at first. However, once we got into it, it didn’t seem so difficult.
“Yurim, now you have to finish it off. Can you do it?”
“Yes, yes…”
Perhaps it was the gravity of taking a life for the first time, but Yurim’s arm started to tremble. Being just eighteen, it was definitely not an easy task.
“Think about your younger sibling. If you can do it, your sibling can learn from you. It’s not that difficult. Remember when you used to kill ants or bugs as a kid? Just think of it as killing a bug.”
“…I understand.”
With determination in her eyes, Yurim tightly closed her eyes and thrust the dagger into the monster’s throat.
“…Hiss.”
“Keeeaaak!”
The monster thrashed about and screamed in response to the sensation of a clamp entering its body, before gradually stifling its breath.
“…So, I really did change professions.”
“Can you tell me what’s on the list?”
“…Hold on. Um…there are archers, thieves, and spear-wielders.”
“Sister, wouldn’t a thief be good? You’re currently using a dagger.”
[Name: Yurim]
[Age: 19]
[Profession: Has not yet changed.]
[Title: None]
[Unique Characteristics]
Quick reflexes (grade measurement in progress) – Agility increases permanently by 3 points.
[Stats]
Strength – 11 Agility – 16
Endurance – 14 Luck – 13
Magic Power – 00 Resistance – 08
I share the same thoughts. I’m not sure if I’ve ever held a bow before, but my strength seems to be low for spear usage and high for agility. Judging by the way I’ve been using a dagger so far, I don’t seem to be completely talentless.
“Considering my quick reflexes as well, it does seem like I would be a good fit for an archer or a thief.”
I subtly expressed my opinion to Yurim.
“I think being a thief would be fine for me too. Of course, the choice is up to you.”
“…I also think being a thief would be better. Wait a moment… Ugh!”
Yurim grabbed her head as if feeling the headache from when she changed professions.
“This feeling…”

“My agility and luck attributes have improved.”
I expected my agility to increase, given my rogue nature, but I couldn’t fathom why luck was on the rise. Among the attributes, luck was the one that baffled me the most.
Resistance, I figured, was like a defense stat in a game. Maybe it increased significantly compared to before because I had been grabbed by the monster earlier.
“All right. Yurim successfully advanced, and now it’s Yuhyeon’s turn. Yuhyeon, don’t worry too much. Just do it like Yurim did. Got it?”
“Yes… hyung.”
“Okay. Let’s start searching again. Everyone, follow me closely.”
I extended my shield forward, moving cautiously because a monster could suddenly appear.
After about 30 minutes of careful movement, something aimed for my arm in the midst of our cautious progress.
Swish.
Ting!
“Damn, what the hell!”
I was relieved that I was able to block it with my shield in an instant. If I hadn’t, an arrow would have pierced my arm. My heart started to race.
“Ah, can you aim a little better? Can’t you hit just one shot?”
“Ha… Damn, I didn’t know how to block that.”
Four men suddenly emerged from the bushes. I could see one of them who seemed to have shot the arrow at me.
“Damn… They outnumber us.”
“… Why are you guys acting like this?”
“Do you have any food? Drop the food and leave.”
“Of course they’re after our food.”
Fighting is not an option… it’s impossible. There are three of us and four of them. And on top of that, we are just two students while they are all strong men.
The guy with tattoos on his arms didn’t seem like someone who had done good things on Earth.
“Oppa… what do we do?”
“Hyung….”
Checking the status bars of those guys, there was no one particularly stand out. One of them had completed a job change. The others hadn’t, but their stats weren’t bad.
Yurim and Yuhyun both seemed anxious in the current situation. It appeared they both understood that there was absolutely no chance of winning if they were to fight.
“I’ll give you half of our food supply. In return, just let us go without a fight or resistance.”
“No. Put everything down and get lost. We’ve already compromised a lot by offering this much. Considering we could wipe out everyone, finding an end at this point should be seen as fortunate. We don’t want to fight either.”
“Darn it… Do I really have to give them all the food? If I do, what comes next?”
If they surrendered all the food, eventually, they would have to take someone else’s food later. But fighting seemed to almost guarantee defeat.
“Bro, wait a moment.”
One of the guys beside the apparent leader started whispering. The leader, having listened to him, smirked and spoke.
“Well… alright. Hey, you. Leave all your food and that girl behind and get lost. Then, we’ll let you and that kid live.”
