Chapter 17: Ch. 17 - Senjutsu!
Kenshin's shout inside the bus attracted everyone's attention.
"A human?" The Nekomata frowned after seeing this, their large scale hypnosis spell was supposed to knock every single human in the vicinity, even low-class magicians could fall for it.
So how come, a normal human could stay awake and resist the hypnosis spell?
That's when his eyes darted towards the two rings and earrings on Kenshin's body that radiates energy.
'Must've been those enchanted items.' The Nekomata gave one of his subordinates a glance, issuing a command without speaking out loud.
The command was simple.
Incapacitate the human.
Yasaka, in her nine-tailed fox form, caught this hidden conversation and she growled before rushing towards the Yokai assailants.
Unfortunately, the Yokai that the Nekomata sent was already gone and have smashed the glass on the bus that keeps Kenshin seperated.
"No!" Yasaka yelled in concern.
In her mind, she can already imagine the outcome of it, either Kenshin would be killed or put to sleep and have his memories of the event erased.
Yasaka hopes for the latter.
However, to her and everyone's surprise. None of her guesses happened.
Instead, the Yokai assailant didn't even managed to get inside the bus when a fist struck and smashed against his face.
Boom!
His figure flew up in the sky before harshly landing on the ground with a sickening sound of bones breaking.
"…." Silence ensued on the battlefield, everyone watched as a figure emerged from the broken bus window.
"Seriously. I wasn't doing anything and you people would actually try to harm me." It was Kenshin, patting his clothes from the small pieces of glass.
Without any flashy introduction, Kenshin raised his arm and a shiny sword appeared on his hand.
[Knight's sword
- A sword belonging to a knight. Enchanted to be more sharper, durable and lighter than normal weapons.]
"Alright. Now come to me." Kenshin gave them a challenging gesture.
'Is he a magician? Or a Sacred Gear holder?' Was what everyone was thinking after seeing his display of supernatural capability.
"…Kill him first then we'll deal with the Yokai princess." The Nekomata squinted his eyes at Kenshin and ordered calmly.
"No you won't!" Even though Yasaka was relieved that Kenshin has the means to protect himself, that doesn't mean she'll let him bear the burden of getting attacked just because of her.
Fwooosh!
Her immense spiritual power surged inside, its sheer weight enough to cause cracks to several buildings around them and even made some Yokai assailants pass out.
In the distance, Kenshin couldn't help but gulp his saliva in amazement.
'I didn't expect her to be this fucking strong!' He yelled in his mind as he coated his body with mana to protect himself from the pressure.
"Dammit! She's stronger than we thought!" The Nekomata leader clenched his fists and he growled, his eyes gained a shine of purple and his nails elongated.
Behind him, two black tails appeared and started waggling. Intense blue energy surged around him.
Seeing this, Yasaka's eyes widened in surprise and she muttered to herself.
"That's Senjutsu…." She didn't expect the noble that she was supposed to be engaged to would actually possess a high-level Nekomata that has mastered Senjutsu and even send it to her.
Unlike Youjutsu that is exclusive to Yokais. Senjutsu can be used by almost anyone as long as they possess the talent to do so.
Not to mention, unlike Senjutsu, Youjutsu is easy to master and even a low-level Yokai is capable of using the basics of it.
Senjutsu on the other hand, can only be used by the true masters. Capable of manipulating a life energy called Ki.
Senjutsu users can strengthen both their internal and external bodies or even cause vegetation around them to bloom or wither. Senjutsu users are able to sense the Ki and Auras of others thus letting them track targets from far away distances.
They can even see through illusions as if they weren't there simply through detecting the flow of someone's Ki or spirit.
Of course, these are just the tip of what Senjutsu users can do.
What truly made them feared was the fact that they're capable of causing internal damage to someone and kill them instantly.
How?
By targeting their opponent's blood vessels and internal organs, and through disrupting the Ki of their opponent's Ki or severing it, they would be able to cause direct damage to their spirit and life-force in which could result in killing their opponent in mere moments.
Added the fact that the target would feel excruciating pain before dying.
'No. He needs to get out of here.' Yasaka worriedly glanced towards Kenshin who looked ready to face everything that came his way head on.
If it was only her, she could at least escape from the Nekomata if things get haywire. She has a hidden trump card that she could use but she lacked mastery over it yet, resulting in damaging everythjng in her surroundings, recognizing no enemy or ally, simply pure destruction.
This is the reason why she's confident that these Yokai assailants would be unable to cause her trouble.
But if Kenshin is here, that would complicate things.
In a blink of an eye, several Yokai assailants pounced on Kenshin, several Youjutsu techniques flaring pm their hands.
Unfortunately for them, they underestimated Kenshin simply because they seen him as nothing but a human.
Fwooosh!
With his above average mind stats combined with his passive abilities relating to increasing his senses, Kenshin easily dodged all of their attacks before retaliating with his own.
Shing!
Shing!
Shing!
With a swift movement with his Knight's sword, Kenshin incapacitated a Yokai assailant in mere ease.
As for the others, they faltered slightly after seeing their fellow Yokai being taken down so easily by someone they underestimated.
But Kenshin wasn't about to give them time to think, once he was done with the first Yokai, he followed up with a conjuration of a spell.
Raising his hands, a torrent of flames spew out a few inches away from his palm.
Fwoooshh!
Their eyes widened in surprise, they weren't expecting the human to be able to cast magic spells this easy and fast!
How come from the human magicians they previously encountered would take at least several more seconds to cast their magic.
Not to mention, their magic isn't as strong as Kenshin's!
Thanks to their agile physiques, the Nekomata assailants were able to dodge the sea of flames while the other unfortunate ones met their demise in a 'mere' human's hands.
Yasaka and the Nekomata leader remained oblivious of this, too submerged in their fight.
Speaking of their fight, Yasaka and the Nekomata seemed to have been on a stalemate for a while.
"I suggest you to surrender now, princess. Nothing good will ever come out of this." The Nekomata leader advised.
"Oh? And you don't think mother, the Queen of Kyouto Yokai faction won't be enraged by your actions?" Yasaka scoffed at the empty threats.
"Are you sure about that, princess? After all, my master may be someone you underestimate but what he holds is something that your mother would truly want." Yasaka squinted her eyes at his words.
What could be something in this world that her mother would want?
"As far as I know. The reason your mother is feared across supernatural factions is because she possess Kyouto's leylines, am I right?" Yasaka clenched her fists at the mere mention of it.
She knows how crazy her mother becomes whenever someone mentions the leylines of Kyouto, which is the source of her mother's strength.
Kyouto Leylines is a huge leyline spanning across the entire Kyouto, giving whoever holds it, an almost infinite amount of spiritual energy. It is of course, invisible to the naked eye but those with an extremely sensitive senses would be able to sense it's existence, but not its exact location.
And currently, her mother is the one who has access to it.
"Get to the point. If you're thinking of stealing the leylines from mother then your master would be nothing but a laughingstock."
She's confident that no one can steal the leylines of kyouto, it is after all, hidden so much that even she, her own daughter doesn't know its exact location, only her mother does.
"Steal it? Hahaha! No no. Like I said earlier. My master holds something your mother wants…" The Nekomata flashed a grin, and when he saw Yasaka's eyes widened eyes, his grin widened and he finally revealed the truth, which in this case, just solidified the suspicion in Yasaka's mind.
"That's right! The Leylines of Tokyo! My master is the only one who knows its location!" The Nekomata spread his arms wide and declared loudly, which sounds like a thunder to Yasaka.
'The leylines. So that's why she insisted I marry that man. For the Tokyo Leylines, she's willing to sell her own daughter…' Yasaka clenched her fists and she fought back her tears from overwhelming her eyes.
She knows that once her mother decided on something especially the leylines that she's been obsessing about, there's no use changing her mind.
'This has been nothing but worthless struggle.' Yasaka sighed in defeat, slowly undoing her transformation.
Seeing this, the Nekomata grin widened even more and he muttered.
"Good girl…." Suddenly, all of his hairs stood up and the Nekomata tilted his head to dodge a sharp sword that was snapped in half.
Fwooosh!
"Yasaka. What's with the sad face? I thought you didn't like that douchebag of a Yokai." It was Kenshin, just by seeing his blood soaked shirt and the decapitated bodies from behind him, one can tell he proved to be difficult to deal with.
"Kenshin…." Yasaka stared at the man in surprise.
"Although I don't have any experience in women and relationships. But I'm sure no one in this world, not even your own parents could decide on who you want to love, marry and spend the rest of your life!" Ignoring the blood trickling down his forehead and his slightly mangled hand, Kenshin clenched it and thumped his chest with it.
"We control our own destiny, Yasaka!" With a large grin, he pointed at the leader Nekomata.
"As for you, you pussycat! Tell your master this! If he thinks he can get in Yasaka's pants through her parents. Think again, because from now on, no one but herself would be able to decide what she wants!" Both Yasaka and the Nekomata froze, several questions popping up in their minds but there's one question that stood out.
Where did Kenshin, a mere human, who could barely handle himself with a bunch of low to middle-level Yokais and come out with a mangled hand and bloodied face?
"How dare you talk to Yokai royalty, you filthy human!" The Nekomata growled and conjured a small ball of pure Senjutsu on top of his palm before throwing it towards Kenshin.
"No! Get away from it!" Yasaka, who got her transformation stopped midway, was unable to save Kenshin and could only warn him by shouting.
'Get away…' In fact, Yasaka didn't have to tell him, his senses were practically screaming for him to dodge and get out of the way.
And that's what Kenshin did. He jumped out of the way.
"You think you can dodge that easily?!" Smirking, the Nekomata raised his index and middle finger together before pouting upwards, controlling the direction of the Senjutsu orb.
Seeing homing orb, Kenshin's felt his heart gripped with slight fear and he was forced to cast his magic.
"[Transfer]!" Not on the orb but on the Senjutsu master.
"What!?" The Nekomata, not expecting the sudden attack, was unable to react in time and the spell took effect on him.
His figure disappeared and what reappeared was Kenhin.
While on Kenshin's previous location, the Nekomata leader appeared.
Transfer spell, a space spell developed by yours truly.
Like what just happened, it exchanges his position with the one he casted the spell on.
An extremely strong spell but it comes with a huge risk.
If his opponent, has enough knowledge in space magic and knows about the spell beforehand, they would be able to disrupt it and once they do, he, the caster, would suffer sever backlash.
Nevertheless, the spell worked its magic and that's all that matters.
Fwoosh!
Finally, the Senjutsu orb reached its target and instead of an expected explosion, what happened next was pure destruction.
The Nekomata's arm, which he used to block the orb, vanished completely, turned into mere dust, as if its existence was erased.
'That orb…was much more lethal than I thought…' Kenshin's eyebrows furrowed.
Thankfully, he was fast enough to cast the crucial transfer spell that saved his ass.
