Honkai: Star Rail – From the Moment Tom The Cat Became My Passenger

Chapter 16: Honkai: Star Rail – From the Moment Tom The Cat Became My Passenger [16]

This… this is the power of a fifty-fifty chance!

Still, even with that reassuring thought in mind, Yevenko couldn't help but feel uneasy charging straight under the claws of a beast the size of a small mountain.

The rapier in his hands wasn't much thicker than a tree branch—just an ordinary piece of metal. Visually, it was laughable to think it could withstand a blow from a Doomsday Beast.

Fortunately, this was a world governed by comedy. Real-world logic didn't always apply.

The moment he managed to parry the Doomsday Beast's attack, Yevenko turned his head slightly and shouted,

"March! Run! I can't hold out for long!"

Without hesitation, March 7th dashed out from under the beast's claws.

Yevenko gritted his teeth and pushed forward with both hands gripping the rapier.

The Doomsday Beast staggered slightly, its weight momentarily shifting back. Yevenko felt the pressure lighten as the beast's claw lifted away from him.

His eyes locked onto the Astral Express, waiting in the distance on the platform.

If I can just—just make it there...

The train's defensive systems should buy them some safety.

Yevenko caught up to March 7th and Stelle. The three ran side by side, the beast no longer flying but thundering after them on foot like a walking cataclysm.

Explosions shook the ground behind them, chaos erupting in their wake.

"Unlucky, unlucky, unlucky!"

Yevenko sounded like he'd been possessed by a certain green pickle-loving dragon.

March 7th kept firing arrows from her ice bow, aiming for the beast's feet to slow it down. It barely helped. The Doomsday Beast was still gaining.

Stelle gauged the distance and spoke up.

"No good. We won't reach the Express in time—we'll be caught first. I'll stay behind and buy you time!"

Yevenko's heart sank.

He knew exactly why the Doomsday Beast was here—it wanted the Stellaron inside Stelle. If she stayed behind, it really might stop chasing the rest of them.

But still—they'd fought together, hadn't they? At the very least, they were comrades.

Besides, in his past life, Stelle had been Yevenko's main character in Honkai: Star Rail.

And even if she did try to stop it—could she really? Given her current combat strength, she'd be nothing more than an appetizer.

Sure, she carried a Stellaron. But with the situation so unstable, who knew whether it would activate in time?

Grinding his teeth, Yevenko shouted—

"Why are you forcing my hand!?"

March's eyes sparkled.

"Wait—you're going to power up, right? Or are you finally going to unleash your hidden strength!?"

Yevenko looked at her, face twisted with a mix of disbelief and deadpan.

"Neither. Where are you getting these lines from?"

March pouted and answered matter-of-factly,

"Wuxia novels, of course."

"I mean, come on! You blocked that Doomsday Beast stomp with your body. You have to have some secret power."

Yevenko sighed, then reached behind him and pulled out a bottle of milk. He took a swig to wet his throat.

"I don't have hidden powers. But I do have one powerful trump card."

March's eyes immediately sparkled with anticipation.

BOOM——!

The Doomsday Beast had caught up. Its right claw came crashing down behind them with a thunderous boom. The left claw swung forward, looming overhead.

The ground trembled. The force flung them slightly into the air.

Yevenko took a deep breath and shouted with everything he had—

"TOM, SAVE ME!!!!!!"

March's look of hopeful anticipation died on the spot.

The Astral Express was still a fair distance away—how could his voice possibly reach it? Even if Tom was a magical cat, he was still just a cat. Could he really fight a Doomsday Beast?

Worst of all, Yevenko's "trump card" was a desperate cry for help.

So disappointing. If she'd known this would happen, she would've called in her special move—like summoning Uncle Yang, Himeko, or Dan Heng.

Meanwhile, Himeko and Dan Heng were still en route.

Seeing the trio on the verge of being crushed by the Doomsday Beast, anxiety burned in their chests, but they could only keep running.

"Just a little more... just a little more..."

"Hang in there, Yevenko, March..."

Back on the Astral Express, Tom was adjusting the blankets in his cat bed, giving it one final fluff.

His ears twitched.

Instantly, he raised one leg and struck a sprinting pose—then vanished.

The next moment, he appeared outside the Express. He saw the beast's claw about to crush Yevenko.

"AHHHHHHH——!!"

Tom shrieked, suspended mid-air. His tongue and tail went stiff as needles.

In a flash, he pulled a rope from behind his back, the end tied into a perfect lasso, and hurled it at the trio.

The lasso sailed through the air without rising or falling—flying dead straight, the rope seemingly infinite.

No matter how far it flew, the other end remained firmly gripped in Tom's paw.

---

In front of the Doomsday Beast—

Just as Yevenko finished screaming Tom's name, the lasso descended from the heavens and wrapped around all three of them at once—tightening instantly.

Before any of them could react, they were yanked away by a powerful force.

BOOM——!

The Doomsday Beast's claw slammed down—on empty ground.

The rope flung the trio through the air before gently lowering them to the ground, their butts landing with a thud.

March and Stelle sat in stunned silence, the word "bewildered" practically written across their faces.

At some point, Tom had already appeared beside Yevenko, staring silently at the Doomsday Beast in the distance.

Yevenko reached down and ruffled Tom's fuzzy head. For the first time in a while, he felt calm.

Now that Tom was here—in full armor fusion mode—who could possibly stand against him?

Himeko and Dan Heng finally arrived.

Seeing everyone safe—if a bit stunned—Himeko smiled gently. March was acting a little dazed, but that wasn't too unusual.

"I'm glad you're all alright."

"Now, let's figure out how we're going to deal with this Doomsday Beast."

She'd barely finished speaking when March suddenly shouted—

"Tom, where are you going!? TOM!"

Following her gaze, Himeko saw Tom striding toward the front of the group.

His mouth was pursed in a pout. His eyebrows furrowed in frustration. His arms swung stiffly in front of him, each exaggerated motion radiating rage.

As he marched forward, he tugged the fur at his wrists upward—revealing pink, furless forearms—and headed straight for the Doomsday Beast.

Himeko rushed to stop him.

"Tom, wait! You're just a cat—you can't take that thing on by yourself!"

But Tom pulled a baseball bat from behind his back and started sprinting. Himeko quickly realized she couldn't catch up.

In the blink of an eye, Tom had reached the Doomsday Beast's claw. But he didn't stop—he took a running step up the beast's paw and dashed across its massive body.

He ran until he reached the top of its head—a tiny black speck against its enormous bulk.

Then, without any warning or wind-up—

BONK——!

Tom smacked the Doomsday Beast square on the head.

The giant beast immediately froze, body going ramrod straight—then collapsed backwards like a felled tree.

The next moment, a long, flesh-colored bump slowly rose from the top of its skull.
