Chapter 1123: Fanning the Flames
"Brother Alatar, what's going on?" Karyk asked, feigning concern and confusion. He glanced between the furious Drike Patriarch and the Guardian of Prince Alatar, frowning. "Why is the Duke attacking your mansion?"
Alatar clenched his fists. "Who knows? That man suddenly went crazy and started attacking us, saying we kidnapped his daughter. The Empire is also siding with him, claiming that I killed their ministers. Isn't it funny?"
"Are they trying to frame you because the Angels are not part of the Empire?" Karyk raised a brow, planting a suggestion in Alatar's mind. "If you truly didn't do it, that means they are looking for an excuse to take you down."
"Tch, these bastards really think that I am scared of them just because I'm in their joke of an empire? I want to see how the Empire dares to kill me! If they want a war with my clan, then they will definitely receive it!"
Alatar wasn't worried about his safety since this was just his mortal body. His real body was in his domain. Even if this body was killed, other than it being a little annoying, there wasn't much loss. But it could certainly start a great war.
"Brother Chronos, I am not worried about my safety since nothing will happen to me. But you are here in your real body. I am more worried about you," Alatar told Karyk via voice transmission to make sure others couldn't hear it.
Even though he was furious about the behaviour of the Empire towards him, but he was still able to think calmly about the importance of Chronos.
If he was alone here, he would have been fine with everything. But with Chronos around, he truly felt a little concerned.
"If they actually attack me, I want you to get out of this place. I don't want you to be taken hostage. That would be a big loss if they used you to threaten your father to weaken the Lords Alliance."
"I have my ways to get out of here if the situation does deteriorate. So don't worry about me." Karyk replied with a transmission of his own. "As for the present situation... Maybe there was some misunderstanding? Let me go talk to them."
He tried to mediate the situation, even though the entire thing was caused by him. He turned his attention to Drike and stepped down the stairs.
Because he was before the angelic clan, even the Empire and the Duke had stopped attacking, worried that he might be hurt.
"Lord Drike, surely there's been a mistake! The Angelic Clan would never…!" Karyk's voice rose in feigned shock, drawing the attention of those nearby.
"Mistake?!" the Patriarch roared, his face contorted with fury. "My daughter is gone! And all the evidence points to them!"
He gestured violently at the Angelic Clan's mansion, smoke still rising from the destroyed entrance because of his previous attack.
"There was the disgusting stench of the angelic clan all over my daughter's room. There were even signs of their magic being used! And you are telling me that it's a misunderstanding?"
"Why would the Angelic Clan do something like this, especially when they are within the Empire? It makes no sense for them to do something so foolish and leave their traces behind! They can't be that sloppy!"
He already knew that this was the same thing that many people within the Empire were thinking about, since too much evidence was left behind.
By presenting it outright to oppose the Drike Clan, he tossed the ball in their court for them stubbornly insisting that it was indeed the Angelic Clan, and stopped having doubts.
"If they didn't do it, then who did? Are you saying I did it myself? Or did you do it?" Drike roared. He was already upset with Karyk for exposing him before, and now his siding with the angelic clan made him even more furious.
"Who knows? You might have done this. You want an excuse to bring the wrath of the Empire on the Angelic Clan since the two sides have been having a conflict!" Prince Alatar couldn't take it anymore and exclaimed.
"He is not wrong." Before Drike Patriarch could say anything, Karyk chimed in to muddy the water. "Do you believe no one here knows that you have been trying to persuade the Empire?"
"Isn't it a little too convenient for you?" he added, the corner of his lips creeping up. So far, everything had been going as he expected. All that was left was for them to be attacked.
"Didn't you send the saviour of your daughter to his death for your benefit? Is it truly strange to believe that you might have done something to your daughter for your benefit as well? After all, she wasn't your heir from what I remembered."
"If Prince Alatar wanted to hurt you, why would he take your daughter, and not the heir of the Drike Dukedom, your son?!"
"That's right! The Duke is certainly strong enough to kill the Ministers! And he has been fighting with the Angels for so long. It's not impossible for him to forge our traces!"
Prince Alatar was growing more and more impressed with Karyk's explanation. The respect in his heart did the son of Time Lord keep rising with each passing second, until he jumped forward, landing next to Karyk.
"If the Empire really wants to frame us, then there is no need to put on such a farce. And if the Empire has been fooled, then I would advise you to look at the true culprit, and not the one who had been framed."
Alatar told the Ministers, unaware that he was standing right next to the culprit, and was blaming someone else. Both victims were fighting with each other, while the culprit was simply watching the fire grow stronger.
He had no favorable feelings for the Drike Family or the Angels. So it didn't matter to him if both of them were destroyed. As for threats about war, that was the last thing he cared about.
He wanted a war, as only that could create a proper playground for the abyss to descend.
