Chapter 1248: Underbelly
Before Daniel could answer it they heard wolves howling, a deep penetrating sound that seem to resonant with the surroundings.
Daniel brows furrowed, he thought they missed someone when he heard Samuel say," Don't worry about it. They are just showing their appreciation. Just remind everyone to follow my advise and not disturb them for a week."
"I will. Beside, they are already scared to approach them. Have you seen how much they have grown? It feels like yesterday when they arrived here not they tower over most people."
"It must be the environment. With ample food, they could have the whole forest to themselves."
"Maybe. I remember, Peter seem to be planning to bring more animals to the sanctuary. I thought I mention it to you."
Samuel didn't know what to say but ultimately, he couldn't do anything about it. He only hope there would be no carnivores. After all this sanctuary was something that was planned by his uncle.
"Now, about these people. They seem to be from london underground gang."
"Gangs? I thought they were just low level thugs. Most of them left for europe after the strict regulation right?" Samuel asked. He knew of few crime familes that operated in the country, mostly foreign but their objective was mostly to launder money and other petty crimes.
Attacking Rothschild family estate was a death wish for these people.
"Strict regulations? by now you should no there is nothing strict around here. When something like Green family can amass so much wealth and power, these people have a lot of opportunities and brass to coerce others."
"Still, I don't see them risking coming here. Most of these people know not to mess with nobles and elite families unless they are working with one. Is someone else involved?"
"No, but I did find a interesting lead. These people recieved their orders from a mexican gang. I think you war on human trafficking, has affected a lot of their routes. Drugs might be one thing but they would need people to carry it from coast to coast."
Samuel was stunned, did he offended the drug cartel in an indirect way? His target was entirely different but somehow everything got mixed together.
"How would they even know it was us? We don't leave any traces behind."
"I don't know how they got the news but this event has nothing to do with Green family and everything to do with them sending a message. I don't think these people even hope to come out alive from this."
"Their families might be threaten. I have heard stories about it. Still, they might have some support to get their hands on so much firepower." Samuel leaned in to pick up the rifle. A Ak-47 among others, not easy to smuggle inside the country where they were banned.
"What do you want to do? I think many people are aware of their presence in the country. No matter how well they hide, they couldn't escape their eyes."
"Just inform the relevant authorities. We already had enough action for whole month. I feel like we might need to strengthen our security again. I will work on it when I have the time."
Three attacks in a week was a lot. It was obvious the open forest was a weak spot. If really skilled people tried they might even cause some damage and with his house closest to this position, he didn't want to take any chances.
"What about their employers? Do you want me-"
"No, I don't want to deal with them. These people are like cancers of society. Even if we erase them from this earth, someone else with take their place."
Taking on the cartels was impossible, it was a one constant in US neighbour that was unchangeable. Maybe because it's the environment or because their history, with ordinary people and elites mingling in the same circle of mess, they were a plague that was never-ending.
"Alright. You should go now. I heard your guest got frightened."
"How do you know?"
Daniel tapped his ear and said," I am always listening."
"Don't tell me, you bugged my house again."
"What else can I do? You always hide things from me. You know how worried your parents can get when you suddenly disappear or shit like this happens."
Samuel wanted to retort but he could say anything in return knowing Daniel was right. The mess keep piling at his door making people around him suffer. It wasn't right for him to make his parents worry.
"Fine but please remove anything from the bedrooms. I don't want people to listen to-"
"I know. We also don't want to listen in on your love life. You know how many people are jealous of you bringing one girl after another. I believe some even curse you with jealousy hoping for a fight but it never happens." He said with a smirk.
"Alright. U am going back." Samuel was too embarrassed to listen these things from someone whom he considers as elder.
He returned to find Ellie in the living room, relatively calm. It seemed like she accepted the situation.
"Don't get scared about these things in the future. If you don't threaten them, they will leave you alone."
"Hmm." She didn't have the heart to look at him. Whym Because his clothes were bloody. He never realised it and only noticed when he saw her looking at him strangely.
"This...is... forget it." He could see the fear in her eyes again. He thought it was best for her, a way to keep her away from him.
Maybe she will think he was a violent man. He knew people would be praising him left and right whenever she ask about him so this was the best solution. After all, seeing is believing!
"Just take rest. Your wounds haven't healed yet." He said and walked away. When he was closest to her, he could feel her leaning back which made him smile.
But her eyes never left him until he went upstairs. Amanda who came out of the kitchen to witness the last moments, just shook her head. She didn't know what these young people were upto these days. Was all this really necessary?
