Chapter 17: Chapter 2: Fracture Lines
Rising Tensions
The Hidden Stone's envoy arrived at Konoha under heavy guard, their banners fluttering with the cold precision of a warning.
In the Hokage Tower, Naruto, calm but firm, faced the Stone's representative, a stern jonin named Kiso, who carried the weight of suspicion in every glare.
"You expect us to believe," Kiso said, voice tight, "that your 'Resonance Child' killed Stone shinobi by accident?"
Naruto's blue eyes remained unwavering. "We have evidence the attackers were rogues using Stone equipment, not your operatives."
Kiso's eyes narrowed. "The world sees your child wielding Resonance energy against other nations, Hokage. You are making enemies you can't afford."
"The world will see the truth," Naruto replied, "if you give us time."
Kiso turned sharply, his cloak snapping. "Time is running out, Hokage."
As he left, Shikamaru exhaled, flicking ashes from his cigarette.
"This is getting troublesome."
Naruto looked out the window, eyes grave. "Kuro's plan is working. Fear is cracking everything we've built."
---
Shadows of Doubt
Outside, villagers whispered as Ryo passed, Boruto and Sarada flanking him on either side.
> "That's him… the Resonance Child."
"Keep your children close…"
Ryo's eyes fell to the ground, the mark on his wrist burning under their stares.
Sarada stepped closer, brushing her shoulder against his. "Ignore them."
Boruto forced a grin, punching the air. "Let them talk. They don't know you like we do."
But even Boruto's grin couldn't erase the weight in the air.
---
Kuro's Game
Far from the Leaf, in a cavern beneath shattered ruins, Kuro knelt before the Resonance Core, watching its pulses mirror storm clouds swirling in a projection above.
Aika stood behind him, arms folded. "The Hidden Stone is calling for war."
Kuro's masked face tilted. "War reveals truth."
Aika's pale eyes narrowed. "And the child?"
Kuro's voice was a whisper of thunder. "He will be forced to choose."

Sasuke's Guidance
That evening, as the last light faded, Sasuke appeared silently outside Ryo's window.
"Come with me."
Ryo looked at Boruto and Sarada, who nodded.
"You'll be safe with him," Sarada said softly, though her eyes glistened.
Boruto forced a lopsided smile. "Don't get too strong without us."
Ryo nodded, swallowing hard, before following Sasuke into the night.
---
They moved swiftly across the forests beyond Konoha, the moonlight cutting shadows across Sasuke's cloak.
"Where are we going?" Ryo asked.
Sasuke didn't look back. "To learn control."
They stopped in a quiet glade near the Naka River, moonlight reflecting on the water's ripples.
Sasuke turned, his Rinnegan eye glinting. "Show me."
Ryo hesitated, then focused, letting the mark on his wrist pulse, green chakra swirling around him.
The river's surface rippled as the Resonance energy extended into the water, making it glow softly.
"Good," Sasuke said. "Now, control it."
Ryo gritted his teeth, sweat beading on his forehead as the energy pulsed, threatening to surge beyond him.
"If you lose control, the world will see you as a monster…"
The memory of the villagers' whispers flashed in his mind.
The chakra flared wildly, the water exploding upward in a column of green light.
Sasuke's hand moved in a blur, his Sharingan tracking every movement as he placed a palm on Ryo's shoulder, Kurama's calming energy flowing into him.
"Breathe."
Ryo's eyes widened, his breath catching. The energy calmed, the water settling, light fading.
"You are not a monster," Sasuke said quietly. "You are in control."
Ryo's breath shook, tears mixing with sweat. "How… how can you be sure?"
Sasuke looked into the distance, his gaze heavy with old memories.
"Because I once thought I was a monster too."
---
The Investigation
Back in Konoha, Sarada and Boruto moved quietly through the ruins of the attacked warehouse.
Boruto's Jougan activated, scanning for chakra traces.
"There," Boruto whispered, pointing to faint purple residue on the ground.
Sarada's Sharingan locked onto it, analyzing the chakra pattern. "It's not the same as Ryo's. It's artificial."
They followed the trail to a hidden compartment in the floor, prying it open to reveal scrolls marked with the symbol of the Stone.
Sarada opened one, her eyes narrowing. "These are mission orders… forged."
Boruto clenched his fists. "They're trying to frame us."
Sarada's gaze hardened. "No. They're trying to isolate Ryo."
Boruto's Jougan flared. "We're not going to let that happen."
---
Kuro's Whisper
That night, as Ryo sat near the river after another training round, exhausted but calm, the air grew cold.
A flicker of purple light reflected on the water.
Kuro stood across the river, the Resonance Core hovering near his shoulder.
Ryo jumped to his feet, chakra swirling around him.
"You."
Kuro's masked gaze regarded him quietly.
"You're afraid," Kuro said softly. "Afraid of yourself. Afraid of what you can become."
"I'm not like you," Ryo snapped, vines sprouting from the ground defensively.
Kuro's voice was calm. "No. You are better. That is why they will fear you even more."
Ryo's breath caught, his vines wavering.
"Look at them," Kuro continued. "The villagers. The Kage. They see your power and they tremble. They smile to your face and whisper behind your back."
"Shut up!" Ryo shouted, the vines thrashing.
Kuro's eyes glowed faintly behind the mask. "They will come for you, Ryo. And when they do, you will be alone."
Suddenly, a blade of lightning slashed across the river, cutting through the projection.
Sasuke stepped forward, his Sharingan glowing. "That's enough."
Kuro's image flickered, the Core pulsing once before vanishing.
Sasuke placed a hand on Ryo's shoulder, grounding him as the vines settled.
"They will not take you," Sasuke said quietly. "You are not alone."
Ryo's eyes burned, but he nodded.
---
Preparing for What Comes
In the Hokage's office, Naruto looked over the forged scrolls Boruto and Sarada had recovered.
"This changes everything," Shikamaru said, exhaling smoke. "We can prove the attack was a setup."
Naruto's eyes hardened. "Kuro is trying to isolate us, to make the nations fear Ryo."
Shikamaru nodded. "If we can find who distributed these scrolls, we can trace Kuro's network."
Naruto looked out over Konoha, the village lights flickering like stars.
"Prepare the teams. We move at dawn."
---
A Promise
That night, under the stars, Team Boruto reunited at the training grounds.
Boruto clapped Ryo on the back. "You look stronger already."
Sarada smirked softly. "You better not leave us behind."
Ryo looked at them, the mark on his wrist pulsing softly, no longer burning, but warm.
"I won't," Ryo said. "We'll protect this world. Together."
Boruto raised his fist. "Together."
Sarada touched her fist to theirs.
And in the distance, thunder rumbled, promising storms yet to come.
