Hogwarts: Novel Era of the Wizarding World

Chapter 6: Unknown figure; New feature

"I know you may have many questions, so allow me to start with some information about Hogwarts. Hogwarts is..." Professor McGonagall began, her voice steady and authoritative. She explained the history of Hogwarts, its teachings, and its significance in the magical world.

As she spoke, time passed swiftly—half an hour had gone by—but no one interrupted her. Olivia and George sat silently, their confusion growing with every revelation.

Adam, while familiar with the major events of the wizarding world from his past life, was entranced by the deeper details of Hogwarts' history. The intricacies, the way it functioned, fascinated him. He realized that, though this world shared similarities with the one he remembered, it was clearly not the same. A part of him felt both wary and intrigued.

Finally, Professor McGonagall paused, letting the weight of her words settle over the room. The silence lingered for a moment before Olivia spoke up, her brow furrowed in confusion.

"You said that Hogwarts has existed for over a thousand years. But how is that possible? Magic has only been around for the last few decades," she asked, glancing at George, who nodded in agreement.

At Olivia's question, Professor McGonagall's expression softened slightly. She reached into her cloak and pulled out her wand. "Mrs. Taylor, I understand how that might be difficult to believe. It's one of the most common questions we receive from parents." She held the wand up, its dark wood glinting in the light. "The magic you are familiar with, the one that emerged seventy years ago, is elemental magic—the ability to create and manipulate fire, water, and other elements, just as you did when you created a flame from nothing."

With a calm flick of her wrist, the tip of her wand flared with a brilliant white light. "Lumos," she said softly. The glow cast shadows across the room, its light illuminating the Taylors' astonished faces. "What you are seeing now is different. This is the magic we teach at Hogwarts, and it has existed for centuries, even before the founding of the school. It is far rarer and more complex, requiring discipline and training to master."

George leaned forward, his curiosity evident. "But isn't it the same thing? You made light; others can make fire or water. What's the difference?"

Professor McGonagall gave a small, knowing smile. "Mr. Taylor, this—" she gestured to the glowing wand, "—is a simple spell, the wand-lighting charm. But at Hogwarts, we teach far more than controlling elements. There are spells for transfiguration, divination, potion-making, herbology, and many other branches of magic. Allow me to demonstrate."

She pointed her wand at an empty teacup on the table. "Aguamenti," she said, and a stream of water flowed from her wand, filling the cup. Olivia and George exchanged bewildered glances, but before they could speak, McGonagall flicked her wand again. "Wingardium Leviosa," she said, and the teacup rose gracefully into the air.

Adam's eyes sparkled with excitement as he watched the cup float. His mind raced with thoughts of how he could one day master these spells. Just then, the cup dropped, shattering as it hit the floor. Olivia and George stared at the broken pieces, bewildered. McGonagall remained calm, raising her wand once more.

"Reparo," she said softly, and in an instant, the shattered cup reformed, water pooling back inside as though nothing had happened. Olivia and George sat speechless, their skepticism now replaced with awe.

Adam, meanwhile, felt a familiar hum in his mind—a soft, insistent vibration. Without hesitation, he pulled up his status window. A red dot blinked in the corner of the shop section. His heart raced as new information flooded his mind.

'New feature has been unlocked in Special Points shop.'

Excitement bubbled up inside him as he opened the new section and a small notification appeared before him. But before he could examine it closely, Professor McGonagall's voice broke through his thoughts.

"Well, Adam, what do you think? This is but a small sample of the magic you'll be learning at Hogwarts, under the guidance of Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, myself, and many other capable professors."

Adam snapped back to the present, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "It's... incredible. I can't wait to learn all of it."

Professor McGonagall's stern expression softened into a smile. "I'm glad to hear it."

George and Olivia, still recovering from the display, exchanged a look. They had known Adam was excited about joining Hogwarts, but this demonstration had shown them a side of the magical world they had never imagined. What they knew of magic—a recent phenomenon taught in local magical academies—was nothing compared to this ancient, secret knowledge that had existed for millennia.

After a long pause, George cleared his throat. "We've seen enough. If this is the kind of education Adam will receive, we trust he'll be in good hands."

Olivia nodded in agreement. They understood now that there was a depth to this world beyond anything they could have imagined, and it was clear that Adam was destined to be a part of it.

With that, they agreed to sign the Hogwarts admission letter, giving Adam their blessing to begin his journey into the world of wizardry.

Professor McGonagall smiled at the scene in front of her, pleased not just because Adam's parents accepted the invitation, but because she could see how supportive they were of their son. It seemed they trusted Adam more than the school itself.

As the conversation neared its end, McGonagall rose from her seat. "Now, I'll take Adam to Diagon Alley to receive his school supplies. You're welcome to join us," she said, turning to George and Olivia. "There, you'll see many more witches and wizards."

"Just give us a few minutes—" Olivia began, but before she could finish, a sudden distortion rippled through the room. A figure, definitely smaller than even four feet tall and unlike any normal human, appeared out of thin air.

George leaped to his feet, instinctively moving in front of Olivia and Adam. His eyes narrowed at the intruder, who stood calmly, as if their sudden appearance required no explanation. Before George could demand who it was, the figure spoke.

"Minerva, we must go. There's an emergency," the small figure said, its voice calm but urgent. "Mr. Taylor, I apologize for barging in like this, but it's a pressing matter."

"I must apologise to you, Mr. And Ms. Taylor, and also to you too, Adam. It is an urgent situation, so I am afraid I might not be able to take you to Diagon Alley today. We must postpone it to a later date."

Professor McGonagall replied quickly, they had originally come to visit this area for a specific reason and meeting with Taylor family was just something she wanted to get it done to not make a future visit at this place. But now that the small figure suddenly apparated into the house like this, she knew that if it is not for something important he wouldn't appear like this.

Adam blinked, stunned by the sudden change. His parents were equally dumbfounded, their earlier awe now replaced with confusion at the urgency of the situation. Though Adam recognized the small figure, he still couldn't shake his surprise.

"Um... it's... it's okay, Professor. We can go later," Adam stammered.

"Good, You'll be notified by letter," McGonagall promised with a weak smile. Her face then turned serious as she nodded at the figure beside her. The small figure nodded back, and with a swish of McGonagall's cloak, the two disappeared into thin air, leaving the Taylors speechless and staring at the now-empty room.

As soon as Professor McGonagall and the small figure vanished, Olivia and George remained frozen, staring at the empty space where they had stood moments before. Olivia broke the silence first.

"Who... what was that?" she whispered, her voice trembling slightly. She looked at George, who shook his head in disbelief.

"I don't know," George replied, his eyes wide with shock. "That wasn't like any magic I've ever heard or seen in the news as well. Did he just appear out of nowhere? And then they both... disappeared, just like that."

"It was like he wasn't completely human," Olivia added, her eyes darting to the spot where the small figure had stood. "He was so... small. And the way they vanished—This isn't elemental magic that Professor McGonagall mentioned, it's something from other branches, right?"

Adam remained quiet, watching his parents exchange bewildered glances. In his mind, though, he knew exactly who the figure was. He recognized the distinct shape, the calm demeanor, and most importantly, the magic. Apparition—it was a spell Adam had longed for since his past life. The sheer elegance of disappearing from one place and appearing in another had always fascinated him. He knew that one day, he too would master it.

Adam wondered what the urgent thing was but he didn't think too much about it. He thought that currently it wasn't his place to think about such thing.

For now, he stayed silent, letting his parents wonder. This was their first real glimpse of the wider magical world, and for now, it was better they remained in the dark and wonder. Adam's thoughts swirled with excitement. He wanted to learn both magic—the magic of muggles and the magic of wizards. The magic that wouldn't just be about controlling elements, but about bending reality itself.

And He would have it. Eventually.

As the conversation between his parents died down, their voices now a distant hum in Adam's ears, he made a quiet decision. Without saying a word, he stood up and excused himself, slipping away unnoticed as his parents continued to discuss today's events.

He climbed the stairs two at a time, his heart pounding—not from fear, but from excitement.

Adam could still feel the tingling energy from witnessing the apparition magic. He felt frustrated thinking how he couldn't visit the Diagon Alley today but something else was drawing his attention even more right now. The new function in his status window—the Special Points shop—was calling to him. He had to see what had unlocked.

Once inside his room, Adam shut the door softly behind him, the familiar quiet wrapping around him like a blanket. He quickly sat on his bed and closed his eyes, focusing his mind. The status window appeared before him, the red blinking dot still there, signaling something new. His fingers trembled as he mentally navigated to the shop.

With a deep breath, Adam opened the Special Points shop.

His eyes widened, and a gasp escaped his lips as he stared at the screen in front of him.

"What…? This can't be real..."

He could barely believe what he was seeing. The notification that had just appeared was beyond anything he could've imagined. He even had a feeling that it was finally the start of his 'main character' journey.
