Chapter 207: Chapter 207: Let the Pope Show a Miracle
Having attended the premiere, Regulus Black was now in a luxury suite at the Hilton Hotel. Two exhausted women lay entangled in each other's arms, using each other as pillows, fast asleep.
Meanwhile, the "old ox" who had just finished his work had already sneaked into the luxurious bathtub, enjoying the pulsating massage of the water jets.
"Formed a cult, huh? Well, I suppose it shouldn't really be called a cult. It's more like a different sect or branch, though the knights are a bit radical."
Regulus Black muttered to himself. As for the magic infused into the "Aler" dagger, he had contributed three spells:
"Soul of Bone," "Whispers of Confusion," and "Phantom Shift." These were all innate skills of necromancers. In Regulus Black's hands, these cheat-like powers could be used in countless creative ways—especially because he had complete mastery over them.
So, when "Aler" helped Carly Klaus found the Order of the Sacred Thorned Crown, even though they had no way of directly contacting Regulus Black, he was already aware of everything that had taken place.
America is a technologically advanced nation, but at the same time, it is a deeply religious one—even cults have their place.
If people believe in cults with completely fabricated doctrines, then it's no surprise that a branch like the Order of the Sacred Thorned Crown would attract many followers—especially after the Saint of the Order demonstrated a miracle.
Is a dagger considered a miracle? Of course not.
But what if a dagger appears out of thin air, in full view of a crowd, observed from every angle without any trickery—would that count as a miracle?
If someone were to ask that question now, and they weren't yet a member of the Order, the faithful would patiently explain and then invite them to join.
But if the person was already a member and had witnessed the miracle themselves?
Then, a knight of the Order—empowered to appoint and remove fellow knights—would place their bone dagger against the person's throat, so they could see up close what a miracle truly is and personally feel the divine wrath like a prison.
A single "Bone Fang" was enough to convince followers that they had indeed been chosen by God. After all, the Saint had clearly stated she did not want believers to actively recruit others—those chosen by God would naturally be drawn in on their own.
Through the use of the magical curse "Whispers of Confusion," Carly Klaus had no trouble gathering more followers. As for the act of forcefully occupying the church, the local police were powerless to intervene. The Order's lawyers had long since prepared all the necessary documents. Whether it went to court or was settled privately, the evidence was entirely in the Order's favor.
Carly Klaus never appeared in person when questioned by police—who knew if the FBI agents still chasing her were still active? Instead, she selected an ambitious member from within the Order and granted him the role of deacon to deal with the authorities on her behalf.
Regulus Black's thoughts and intentions could be relayed to Carly Klaus through "Aler," though neither she nor the dagger was aware of the link. Even "Aler" merely believed the ideas were its own.
"The next step is to take over seven churches across the Great Lakes region and establish different cults under different names."
Regulus Black had already planned out the next phase. He passed on the information to "Aler," leaving execution to them while he waited to harvest the fruits of their labor.
He even went as far as designing the names and cross emblems for the seven cults himself:
Order of the Sacred Thorned Crown: A gemstone-covered cross wrapped in thorns and flowers.
Church of the Holy Nail Elena: A cross made of four golden nails, tips pointed inward and heads outward.
Redemption of the Holy Cross: A pure wooden black cross, with a hole at each end of the horizontal and vertical beams.
Blood of the Holy Grail Sisterhood: A silver cross with a red chalice symbol at the center.
Holy Spirit Mortuary of the Sacred Capital: An entirely red cross with a shrouded appearance, as if wrapped in cloth.
Seven-Star Children of the Holy Scarab: A silver cross with a red scarab emblem in the center.
Holy Lance Legion of Longinus: A golden cross with a chained spear bound vertically along its shaft.
"As for those guilty priests, if they don't have these personal artifacts, have them custom-made and delivered to them."
Regulus Black added this malicious suggestion to "Aler" and included the cross emblems he had designed.
"Why did you go take a bath by yourself without waking us?"
The two leading ladies of the Crimson Manor, Richards Theron and Jennifer Connelly, woke up to find that the man who had just spent a wild night with them was already gone. It turned out he had woken up earlier and gone to soak in the bath. Without hesitation, the two women joined him in the water to serve their beloved.
What followed in that steamy pool requires no elaborate description. After being apart for so long, the three of them were far from satisfied with just a few hours spent on the bed earlier.
Meanwhile, something miraculous occurred in the Great Lakes region of the United States. A saintly maiden appeared and forcibly took over seven churches, one after another, establishing religious groups under different names. Although each group claimed to be a branch of the traditional church, they looked down on the traditional church and refused to submit to its authority or leadership.
The Vatican had initially been very concerned. The rise of any new sect always risks encroaching on the interests of the traditional church.
However, after some time observing them, it became clear that these seven differently named religious groups had no desire to expand. After taking over their respective churches, they only recruited local community members and explicitly forbade them from bringing in new followers.
Still, the Pope felt uneasy after reading the names of these seven groups in the report—especially upon learning about the miracles their saintly maiden had allegedly performed. In each of these groups, individuals had been knighted, and each of them received a bone dagger that had seemingly appeared out of thin air. Every knighting ceremony involved the display of this miracle, which fostered a strong sense of unity within each group, making them difficult to shake or influence from the outside.
When a priest was sent to investigate, he was immediately rebuffed with a single retort:"Tell the Pope to show us a miracle himself sometime!"
The Pope was left helpless. Though he strongly suspected the involvement of a sorcerer, and had already confirmed through various channels with magic ministries around the world, there was little he could do. As for the miracle of producing daggers from thin air, the magic ministry deemed it unworthy of concern—because it wasn't recognized as a standard form of wizardry.
But why? Why, as the Pope—holder of supreme authority on Earth—was he not blessed with magical powers?
If he had the same powers as those wizards, he would certainly not hesitate to display miracles himself.
This left the Pope feeling deeply frustrated, though he was well aware he couldn't afford to provoke the wizards.
The magic ministry had left one thing unsaid: perhaps the so-called miracle was nothing more than a magic trick. After all, the Aurors sent to investigate hadn't detected any magical presence. The girl simply produced the dagger from her palm—something even ordinary stage magic could imitate.
Regulus Black's [Station List] gained seven new icons. If he had personally carried out such territorial expansion, he would have been arrested and punished by the Aurors of the American Magical Congress. Even if they hadn't detected any magical fluctuations, they would have simply assumed he had perfect control over his powers. No explanation would have sufficed.
But when a girl like Karlie Kloss was the one acting, confirming she wasn't a wizard was easy. Her lack of magical power could be quickly verified, and any "miracles" she displayed would naturally be attributed to other causes.
Magic tricks—a method by which Muggles, yearning to be wizards, create illusions through devices, sleight of hand, and deception.
In such a situation, the magic ministry had few options. If the girl wasn't a wizard, then the matter didn't fall under their jurisdiction. While they suspected a wizard might be pulling the strings behind Karlie Kloss, evidence would still be required.
The Pope had no good solution either. Each of the deceased priests had died leaving behind large debts. The opposing side held documents signed by those priests, and though the legality of those documents was questionable, any lawsuit would be drawn-out. Illegal eviction would also be ineffective, as those religious groups had large and loyal followings.
Moreover, they saw themselves as branches of the traditional church. While they disdained the Vatican, much of their doctrine overlapped significantly with traditional teachings.
Thus, the matter couldn't be resolved through religious warfare. It seemed there was nothing left to do but let it go.
