Chapter 213: Chapter 213 Still eating? Black's gonna getcha!
"I usually just bite the mouse and eat it," said the Earl. "Instead of whispering in their ears, 'Hehehe, I'm gonna eat you guys!'"
"Well, then you're not really living," Cohen said, shaking his head.
"Don't act like you know more about owls than I do, you little rascal!" the Earl snapped. "Not every bird likes to play with their food!"
"Tsk, tsk, tsk..." Cohen shook his head again.
"Aaaaaahhhhhh!!!" The Earl looked like he wanted to off Cohen but couldn't, and finally, sulking, he flew off to find a snack.
---
Cohen and the Earl didn't hold grudges. No matter how angry the Earl got, he'd happily come back the next day and fly to the Gryffindor dorm to drop a dead mouse for Cohen—
"You son of a—!" Cohen shook the dead mouse off his sheets and onto the floor, glaring fiercely at the Earl.
"I saved one for you, and I even picked out the fattest one!" the Earl said proudly.
"You scared the daylights out of me!" Ron, just waking up, jumped at the sight of the mouse on the floor. "I thought it was Scabbers' body..."
Scabbers was still safe and sound in his cage.
"You're just holding a grudge, aren't you?" Cohen flicked his wand, and the dead mouse vanished.
"Don't waste it if you're not gonna eat it!" the Earl said, feigning heartache.
After the Earl's commotion, no one in the dorm felt like sleeping in anymore.
They didn't have any classes this morning; their first class was Divination in the afternoon.

"Hermione bought Crookshanks a new cage yesterday," Ron said, checking on Scabbers. "Maybe it'd be good to let him out for some fresh air today..."
Scabbers was still trembling after being let out of his cage. Cohen finally understood why Peter had been able to stay safely in the Weasley family for twelve years without being discovered—he was practically a natural-born rat.
"I still have a ton of snacks I can't finish," Harry said kindly. "We could give some to Scabbers; he looks really weak."
Scabbers was left in the dorm. Harry suggested going to see Hagrid to check out the animals for the next Care of Magical Creatures class—they needed to help Hagrid keep an eye on things so he didn't bring out any dangerous creatures.
"I won't go," Cohen said. "I have a feeling Hagrid would beg me to let him borrow my Chimera."
"Probably best not to..." Harry said, sounding a bit scared. "That lion head looks like it wants to pounce on anyone, Hagrid would get reported by everyone."
Harry and Ron headed downstairs together. Seamus was also planning to grab an early breakfast and then hang out with Dean and the others.
Cohen pretended to leave, but after a few minutes, he doubled back.
"Squeak, squeak..." Scabbers scurried around in Harry's pile of snacks, looking for something to eat, especially after all the other young wizards had left the dorm—he completely lost that trembling, scared look.
But his movements froze when a relatively large shadow appeared behind him.
Cohen flicked the little rat's head with his finger.
"Still eating?" Cohen said sweetly. "Black's gonna getcha..."
Peter stiffly turned his head. Even though he knew Cohen was his master's partner, the feeling of being caught still made him instinctively want to run.
And Cohen had said, "Black's gonna getcha." Could it be... Cohen was actually on Black's side?!
Peter decisively decided to bolt—good news, Cohen hadn't grabbed him right away. That meant as long as he could get out of the castle, this boy would never find him. No one could find a rat in the outside grass and forest.
Cohen, feeling playful, let Peter escape from the dorm.
Naive little Peter actually thought he could get away safely, hehehe. Once Cohen had his eye on prey, there was no way it could escape.
The tracking potion Cohen had fed Peter last time allowed him to find Peter's location at any time. So, Cohen just waited for Peter to leave the Gryffindor Tower and escape the castle, following leisurely behind.
"Time's about up..." Cohen said ominously as he finally approached a bush. "Still wanna run?"
"Squeak, squeak, squeak..." Peter shrank back in fear in the depths of the bush and was snatched out by Cohen.
"Wanna try biting me?" Cohen said nonchalantly, watching Peter as if he wanted to take a bite out of his hand and then try to escape. "Just a heads-up, I don't know how to undo a liquid curse."
Although he didn't know what a liquid curse actually was, considering Cohen's species, Peter immediately lost the courage to resist and stayed still in Cohen's hand like he was waiting to die.
"That's much better. I don't have any bad intentions towards you."
Bringing the rat to the Room of Requirement, Cohen tossed him onto the floor, saying like a good guy:
"We're on the same side; why would I hurt you?"
Peter stood up on his hind legs, a pleading look in his two little eyes.
"Transform back into human form; I don't speak rat," Cohen said, looking down at the cowardly rat. "No one will come here."
After Cohen finished speaking, Peter started to spin around. The rat's body was constantly expanding, like a time-lapse of a tree growing.
First a head, then limbs. A moment later, a short, timid man appeared where the rat had been.
"Co—Cohen..." Peter Pettigrew said, shrinking back and not daring to look Cohen in the eye. "You wanted to see me about..."
"I've worked out a plan with Voldemort," Cohen said. "About kidnapping Harry Potter and resurrecting him in the Riddle family graveyard."
"That's wonderful..." Peter forced a fawning expression. "Will I... will I be forgiven by the master..."
"Of course, you're a very outstanding messenger," Cohen nodded. "Without you, Voldemort would have trouble finding me. I'll give you a 'Best Rat' award."
Peter didn't catch the sarcasm in Cohen's words and let out a long sigh of relief.
"The rest of the plan doesn't involve you too much; you can continue to be a freeloader," Cohen said. "But I'm a really nice guy and can't stand seeing my allies in danger..."
"D-danger?" Peter asked, raising his head tremulously.
"I ran into Sirius," Cohen said. "He thought I was Harry's friend, so he told me a lot of things—including that he's coming to kill you—"
"No!" Peter said in a high-pitched, terrified voice. "You can't let him kill me—I'm still useful... I'm useful to the Dark Lord... I'm useful to you too... I'll do anything..."
Peter knelt on the ground and crawled to the hem of Cohen's robes, trying to hug Cohen and beg him for protection.
"Don't be so disgusting..." Cohen moved away from Peter.
"No... please, don't let Black kill me—he's a madman..." Peter said, sobbing and sniveling.
