Chapter 140: Chapter 138 – Kakashi Is Attacked: Shinnō of the Empty Village
After witnessing the Dead Bone Pulse, Hyūga Naraku didn't linger in Kirigakure. He returned directly to Konoha.
Dead Bone Pulse was different from Lava Release or Boil Release—bloodlines anyone could theoretically learn. This one was unique. Closer to the Sharingan or Byakugan in nature.
The Kaguya Clan's kekkei genkai was rooted in Yang Release—stimulating rapid, violent bone growth with raw chakra.
Still, no matter how far he pushed Yang Release… Naraku couldn't replicate it.
Just like the Sharingan—he'd already added Yin Release to his Tenseigan, even awakened it. But still, no Sharingan. No Mangekyō.
Back in Konoha, Nara Shikaku approached with urgency.
"Kakashi was attacked."
Naraku's eyes narrowed.
This wasn't like the tense mission to Kumogakure. The chaos in Mist had ended. Konoha's shinobi had already returned.
"He was ambushed," Shikaku continued. "His Sharingan was stolen."
Naraku's expression froze.
Only one person would do that and not kill Kakashi.
Obito.
But… would he really?
Naraku wasn't convinced.
In the original timeline, Obito had countless chances to reclaim Kakashi's Sharingan—especially after the Fourth Hokage's death. And yet, he never did.
Even during the Fourth Great Ninja War, Obito let that eye remain with Kakashi.
When the eyes were finally reunited—it was Madara, not Obito, who took them.
"I'll see him myself," Naraku said.
At Konoha Hospital, Naraku entered Kakashi's ward. Might Guy was there, pacing restlessly.
"Naraku! You're back!" Guy said, eyes lighting up. "Try talking to him—he won't tell anyone who attacked him!"
Kakashi stood at attention as Naraku stepped in.
"Lord Hokage."
"No need for titles between classmates."
Naraku gestured casually. "Let's be real. Was it the man in the spiral mask?"
He didn't waste time.
If it were anyone else after the Sharingan, they'd have targeted an Uchiha directly.
The Sharingan was still relatively common in Konoha—no need to ambush Kakashi.
But this attacker? They took only the eye… and left Kakashi alive.
It was personal.
Kakashi hesitated.
Then slowly nodded.
Naraku's gaze sharpened. "You've figured out who it was. That's why you won't say anything."
After a long silence, Kakashi exhaled.
"I saw it. His right eye was a Sharingan."
"More than that—there was a strange resonance between his Sharingan and mine."
Naraku crossed his arms.
"When Obito gave you that eye—it was a two-tomoe Sharingan, wasn't it?"
Kakashi blinked. "Yes. But after Rin's death, it evolved into three tomoe."
Naraku's voice dropped.
"Just three?"
"Uchiha only awaken Mangekyō with… extreme emotional trauma."
Kakashi frowned, silent.
As Konoha's ANBU Commander, he knew the intel on the Mangekyō—and the rumors surrounding Obito's survival.
"What does this have to do with Obito and Rin?" Guy interjected, confused.
Naraku answered.
"Two eyes—left and right. Resonating. A perfect pair. That's not a coincidence."
Kakashi broke his silence. "Even if they're a matched set… someone else could've awakened that Mangekyō. I did, and I'm not even an Uchiha."
"True," Naraku said. "But why would they spare you?"
Even Guy quieted at that.
This masked figure had launched the Nine Tails attack, killed the Fourth Hokage and his wife, even tried to steal Naruto.
Why leave Kakashi alive?
"There could be… other reasons," Kakashi muttered.
Naraku chuckled.
"It's fine. You're better off without it anyway. The Sharingan was draining your potential."
Now, Kakashi's chakra reserves were surging—no longer drained by a foreign eye.
He had enough now to learn Sage Mode.
"Take off the bandage," Naraku said.
Kakashi hesitated, but obeyed.
Naraku's hand glowed with green chakra. A moment later—
"It's done."
Kakashi blinked, startled.
"My eye… it's back?"
Not the Sharingan. His real left eye—his own chakra signature.
He touched it, stunned.
"You can do this now…?"
Guy handed him a mirror.
Kakashi stared.
It was his eye again.
"You've really advanced, Naraku."
Naraku gave a slow nod. His gaze sharpened again.
"You fought that masked man… and something awoke, didn't it?"
He could sense it—a dense chakra signature buried deep in Kakashi's mind. The same nature… as the Mangekyō.
"You awakened it during the fight," Naraku said flatly.
Kakashi nodded after a pause.
"I think so. When we fought, I felt a huge surge of chakra from my brain into my left eye. Then… I blacked out."
Guy whistled.
"That's our Kakashi."
"Good thing we had that traveling doctor in the village," Guy added. "Name was Shinnō. If not for him, Kakashi might still be unconscious."
Naraku's eyes narrowed.
Shinnō?
He knew that name.
Leader of the Sky Ninja Village. Disguised. Dangerous.
"Where is he now?"
"He left already. Why?" Guy asked.
Naraku turned.
"Next time you see him—don't let him leave."
