Chapter 31: Ch 31: Dohnaseek
We barely made it out of the sanctuary when the air shifted.
A pulse of ominous energy rippled through the hallway, and before we could react, a shadow dropped from above, landing with a thunderous impact that cracked the stone floor beneath his feet.
Large black wings flared outward.
Dressed in priest-like robes fused with black armor, a tall man with sharp features and glowing violet eyes looked down at us, a sneer twisting his lips.
Dohnaseek.
"Well, well… I expected someone, but I didn't think it would be the Devil Brats again. And here I thought Freed would take care of you."
"You must be Dohnaseek," Kiba said, stepping in front of me.
The Fallen Angel's smirk widened. "Ah, so you've heard of me. That saves me the trouble of introductions. You're quite the persistent ones, I'll give you that."
He raised a hand, summoning a long, jagged spear of light that crackled with raw power.
"You got lucky with Freed. I'm not so easy."
Boost!
The Boosted Gear pulsed with power again. "We're not backing down," I said.
"We're here for Asia," Koneko added, stepping beside me.
Dohnaseek tilted his head. "The little nun? She's already ours. You're too late. And now… you'll die here."
He lunged forward without warning.
The sheer speed of his movement caught us off guard. Kiba barely had time to parry the incoming spear, metal clashing with pure energy in a burst of sparks. Koneko dove to the side and retaliated with a flurry of punches, but Dohnaseek twisted in the air, dodging her with terrifying grace.
I joined the fray, swinging my powered-up fist toward his ribs.
CLANG!
His wing blocked the attack. I felt my bones tremble from the impact, and I was thrown back by a shockwave of force.
"Damn… He's way stronger than Freed," I growled, landing hard.
"He's a full-fledged Fallen Angel. This won't be easy," Kiba said, already moving again.
Kiba slashed in a wide arc, forcing Dohnaseek to backpedal. Koneko followed with a leaping kick aimed at his chest, but he caught her leg mid-air and hurled her into a nearby pillar, which cracked on impact.
"Koneko-chan!" I shouted.
"I'm… fine," came her voice, muffled but alive.
"You kids just keep crawling out of the woodwork. It's getting annoying," Dohnaseek snarled, forming another spear of light and throwing it with precision.
It came straight for me.
Boost!
I raised my gauntlet just in time. The spear exploded on impact, knocking me back again, flames licking my jacket.
"You're just stalling us," Kiba said aloud, narrowing his eyes. "You're not trying to kill us quickly. You're keeping us away from something."
"Very perceptive," Dohnaseek replied with an amused smirk.
He wasn't here to defeat us—he was just delaying us while Raynare did whatever ritual thing she had planned for Asia.
No time.
We were playing into their hands.
Kiba looked over his shoulder at me and nodded. "We'll hold him. You go."
"What? Are you sure?" I asked, blinking.
"I said we're comrades, didn't I?" Kiba gave a smile, though his tone remained serious. "We're not going to let you face all of this alone. Besides, we just need to stall him—same as he's doing to us."
"I'll smash his face in for you," Koneko added, brushing dust from her dress. Despite her usual monotone voice, I could hear the fire in her words.
I stared at them—two people who barely knew Asia but were willing to risk their lives.
I'm lucky to have them. In a sense, I am the same as them.
"Thanks, guys," I said.
I turned to Dohnaseek, who watched us with narrowed eyes.
"We are your targets, not him." Kiba said he launched a slash at Dohnaseek.
