Chapter 15: CH 15
Now that he's angry, what should I do?
Jin still wore a confident smile, but inside, he was a bit on edge.
The man approached slowly, as if certain that no matter what Jin did, he would be able to catch him.
"Yo, kid! I almost forgot something," the man said as he swung his arm, waving the light sword haphazardly.
Jin positioned himself to be ready to dodge at any moment, keeping an eye on the man's movements. He calmly stepped back whenever the man stepped forward.
"It seems you've underestimated Freed Sellzen. Or maybe… you know nothing about Exorcists and Devils? What a mistake! But I must kill you! A heretic with a Devil's stench is certainly not a good person! So, Lord, forgive this kid!"
No wonder Jin had sensed something strange about the man—turns out he was a bit crazy. And that's what made him dangerous.
Suddenly, the man stopped, then lunged forward with the same burst of speed as before, appearing right in front of Jin. The sudden movement caught him off guard, and he barely managed to dodge the man's slash, as fast as a gust of wind.
Fortunately—or unfortunately—Jin only received a small cut on his cheek.
"Woah!"
He rolled backward a few times before regaining his balance and looking at the man. It seemed the man was dead set on killing him, as he charged again, attacking repeatedly. Freed's swordsmanship consisted of basic stabs and slashes, but his speed and unpredictability made them dangerous.
Somehow, Jin managed to read his movements, which only seemed to enrage the man further.
"Hey, hey! You're as slippery as an eel, aren't you?"
"I'll take that as a compliment."
All this time, Jin had been intentionally leading Freed deeper into the woods. As he moved, he managed to snatch a branch from the ground, gripping it like a weapon.
"You think a branch like that can beat me? Hahaha!"
Even though he was a bit insane, Freed was still a seasoned fighter. His attacks became more aggressive, now aiming to kill Jin outright instead of playing around.
To make matters worse, Freed's speed increased, causing Jin to grow more worried about his situation.
'This guy's strong. So there are humans who can surpass me in physical ability?! The supernatural world is scary…'
Realizing he wouldn't have a chance to escape if things continued like this, Jin decided to counterattack. As Freed thrust his sword forward, Jin twisted his body at the perfect moment and swung the branch at Freed's head.
"It hurts!"
Freed stumbled back, holding his head in pain. Jin couldn't afford to waste this opportunity. Using his newly acquired skills, he instinctively swung the branch like a sword, aiming for Freed's hand.
"Take this!"
With all his strength, Jin struck Freed's hand and followed up with a kick to his stomach.
"Gah!"
Freed staggered back, losing his grip on the light sword. As soon as it fell from his hand, the blade vanished, leaving only the hilt behind.
Jin quickly threw the branch aside and reached for the sword, but the next moment, he realized his mistake.
BAM!
A loud gunshot echoed through the woods. Jin glanced at the ground and saw a bullet hole right next to his hand.
"Oi! Take your filthy hand off my baby, heretic!" the man shouted maniacally, his voice cracking with rage.
It wasn't due to carelessness that Jin had failed to notice the gun—it was purely because of his ignorance of the supernatural world. His face paled as he saw the muzzle of the gun aimed directly at his head.
While Jin was confident he could at least hold his own against the man when fighting with swords, facing a gun was a different story.
Why? Because it was a freaking gun. Even an ordinary person knew that a bullet to the head meant instant death.
And yet, even in this dangerous situation, Jin still managed to laugh.
"Hahaha… Now this is a real danger."
"Yeah! Now you get it, huh? Take your hand off my baby. Right now!" Freed commanded, waving the gun around. "Or my second baby here will blow a hole through your skull!"
Jin's mind raced as he desperately searched for any advantage he could use. He quickly opened a panel in his mind to review his skills, hoping he'd overlooked something. His eyes stopped on a particular skill.
'I can use this. If it worked before, it should work now. Or rather… it better work.'
Slowly, Jin stood up, still holding the hilt of the light sword.
"Hey, white-haired man! Can you catch?" Jin called out, pulling his arm back as if preparing to throw the sword.
"Of course I can, heretic! Who do you think I am? I'm the most handsome, most amazing Exorcist! Hyaha!!"
"Is that so?" Jin replied with a smirk.
Silently, he activated his skill, Lactation Fog, to fill the area with a dense pink fog, concealing his body from view.
Although the skill could only affect one person per day, there was no rule saying he couldn't use it again to create fog. And Jin had full control over whether others could see the fog or not. This time, he made sure Freed could see it clearly.
In an instant, the fog spread across the area, surrounding Freed.
"Wha—?! You little heretic!!"
BAM! BAM! BAM!
Freed fired three shots toward where Jin had been standing. However, no screams followed. No sound of flesh being pierced. Nothing.
A few seconds later, the fog dissipated, revealing that Jin had vanished without a trace.
Freed blinked a few times before looking up at the sky and screaming.
"FUCK YOU!! I'LL KILL YOU, HERETIC!!!"
From a distance, just outside the park, Jin leaned against the wall of a dark alleyway, trying to catch his breath. Despite his rough breathing, a grin crept across his lips.
"I did it. That was rough… and scary," he muttered as he raised his hand, looking at the light sword hilt he had stolen.
"Now… how do I use this thing? Well, I'll figure that out later. For now…"

He glanced toward the park one last time before turning and walking deeper into the alley.
"…Let's just get out of here. That crazy guy is seriously scary."
