Chapter 12: The Beginning of the Operation

🟠 chapter 11 :

"Alright, Raynar. I'll see you later."

I left, bidding Raynar farewell, and returned to Ren.

That night, inside my cell, I tried to review everything.

Ren it had become clear what role I'd need him for. Same with Raynar.

Simon... he'd be the one exposed to everyone.

I was feeling a little unsure about all this.

Honestly, I wasn't confident I could pull it off. I might fail in the end.

But even so I had to try.

I need to find who was speaking with Boral earlier , Before the end of the week

Days passed as I kept trying to match the voice I had heard with the voices of the prison guards.

To them, I probably came across as annoying and nosy but I didn't care.

None of their voices matched what I had heard before.

Today, once again, I was taken to clean the toilets.

The awful smell was as unbearable as always.

Hours passed, and the shift ended.

As I was heading back to my cell, one of the guards approached and handed us those suspicious gums.

"Here you go, young man. You'll need this to recover after all that cleaning."

Wait a second that voice.

It's the same voice as the one I heard talking to Boral earlier

It was the same guy.

If I'm not mistaken, his name was Grot.

He was blond and huge so big that even his arms looked like they could crush my skull

These gums... something about them seems off.

The pieces are starting to fit together.

I'll find out what this gum does I'll test it on one of the rats.

They're always running around in front of my cell anyway.

The days went by, and finally the day of the escape arrived.

It was nighttime.

The guards didn't mind prisoners helping Raynar with the cooking.

Simon had already been released in the morning.

Ren and I went to fetch the food supplies for the kitchen.

When we entered, two other inmates were already there helping Raynar.

Damn it.

Why now, of all times?

Sure, technically anyone is allowed to help Raynar in the kitchen...

But let's be honest, no one ever wants to go near Raynar.

"Raynar, why are these two helping you cook?"

Great.

Now we had uninvited guests who would probably follow us.

"They said they were bored of sitting in their cells and wanted something to do."

Seriously?

Now is when they decide they're bored?

At least be bored yesterday.

Fine. Let's move past this.

I asked Raynar about the wall.

"So Raynar, where's that wall the one that's easy to break?"

"It's right behind those two crates."

"Perfect."

Raynar had told me before during one of his many failed escape attempts,

he dug tunnels from the kitchen to the outside.

He always knew he'd fail, so each time he created a new path from a different spot.

One of those attempts had left a weakened wall behind just fragile enough to break through with decent physical strength.

"Alright, now we put the guards to sleep so they can't come after us."

Ren looked at me, curious.

"Takero-dono, how are we supposed to put the guards to sleep? We don't have any sleeping agent."

"You're wrong, Ren. We do have one."

I had done a little experiment earlier.

I fed some of that gum they give us during toilet duty to a rat.

After a short while it passed out cold.

I crushed those gum like substances and mixed them into the bean soup.

Cutting them was easier than with actual chewing gum.

"What are you guys doing? What kind of escape plan is this?"

The two inmates had become curious.

No point in explaining everything now.

If they want to escape too they'll figure it out soon enough.

"You'll understand when the time comes."

Dinner was served and distributed to the guards.

And a little later they were all fast asleep.

Everyone looked at the guards in shock.

Even Ren couldn't believe it.

"No way... that candy was actually a sedative?"

Raynar, on the other hand, was getting pumped.

"This is amazing. This'll be the best escape we've ever done."

Ren headed straight for the weak wall.

Using his ability, his physical strength surged and with a single punch,

he smashed through the wall.

Raynar was in awe.

"Incredible, Ren! Your strength is unreal!"

The other two inmates couldn't believe what they were seeing.

"Look, Rick! It's a real prison break! These guys are

n't the fools I thought they were!"

"You're right, Zeke. No way we're missing out on this we're coming too!"
