Chapter 23: c23
the battle of the trident
-Lands of the rivers-
-Camp Stark-
Hariric was reading his brother's report and smiled. His sister had shown his martial ability by being able to completely outclass his enemies. That in itself would be enough. But his sister had shown that he was as much a Stark as any other by bringing enemies to their knees and destroying before the eyes of all the Twins.
You see the freys had asked for one thing in exchange for helping with allowing the Lannister troops and riverlands allies to pass through. They wanted Ashara Dayne as their own woman. Rhaegar himself had sent a letter granting them such a thing, stating that once the war was over Ashara would marry Lord Frey. She didn't have to be a genius to know that she would be one of her children. So that's where she came from, the desire to put the Freys in her place. Ruthless yes. cruel too. But for Hariric things were simple.
The fact that Hoster Tully was also unable to control his kingdom by letting them move as he pleased infuriated him as well. Hoster wanted to marry his eldest daughter to his ned brother. Although some would see that as a good match, he refused due to the fact that it would tie the North to what was the house of the South, meaning in a few words that he supported Hoster of all time. He was against that only idea for the simple fact that he thought that Hoster was an arrogant idiot who thought that just because he was a lord he deserved to be respected and demanded to be treated in such a way by all means. The truth is that all this would not have been possible if it were not for his maid.
She liked everyone who was against House Stark and apparently she had taken a special liking to Hoster Tully and Jon Arryn. In fact, she had been the one who allowed obtaining the letters with the signature and seal not only of Tywin Lannister but also of Jon Arryn. She had only shown a copy of the letters to her brother but the truth is that she knew that if those two letters saw the light the two lords would be frowned upon since they would be seen as plotting to get the house targyen out of the place. her.
Although Jon Arryn had planned to attack him from behind, it was just a strategy to win the sympathy of the dragon lord and thus move his tray forward hoping to gain a position of respect and power in that case. If conflict averted Jon and Tywin had agreed to support and back Robert Baratheon's ascension to the throne by adding certain things. She knew of Robert's obsession with her sister, so she deduced that she would be killed so that Robert would marry Cersei Lannister.
That was why he had specially sent orders to the war wolves in the valley. His orders were not only to hinder the advance of the army in what was the valley. But they also had orders to do as much damage as possible to the valley. Damage as many lords as possible. Make them suffer and bleed. From Hariric's point of view this was small revenge. But with Tywin Lannister he had it better. After all he had his brother. He wondered what could he really ask for it?
He opened another of the reports and his smile became even more vindictive. The Eastern Fleet commanded by Lord Manderly had successfully attacked the Royal Fleet while it was still anchored and completely destroyed it before launching an attack on Gull Harbor with their fire attack weapons and possibly reduced the port city to ashes. More than brutal if he had to say it himself and he was more than pleased to know that it would be screwing Lord Arryn big time.
The Dominion fleet was not doing well either. While the fleet was massive with all their ships they had unfortunately found themselves outmatched with their ships' weapons that could not only destroy ships with a single shot but also from range. Needless to say, the ships of the domain fleet had been mercilessly wiped out by the northern ships that had been stationed at the kraken cape that had a military port stationed there.
Hariric felt good. With both their flanks covered that meant the southern threat was fully dealt with. As if that wasn't enough there was also the fact that the threat of an invasion had been completely removed which from Lord Stark's point of view was excellent news. He had sent a message informing that the fleet should withdraw but that the patrols should continue since he did not trust the threat that was the ironborn pirates in the slightest.
While meditating Hedwig appeared at that moment with a letter he had left two of his relatives with his wife. Hedwig would let her wife know what was going on. And between Nyx, who was his cat, and his Ophis, he was sure that his wife was not in danger at all, since only an idiot would try to attack with the two animals empowered by his magic. Looking at her faithful companion, he removed the letter that was in her clutches before looking carefully and a frown on her face. The war would have to end quickly from what he could see since apparently a group of assassins had tried to get to his wife.
With that I send for a soldier who was at the entrance of the store. The soldier showing his clear professionalism gave a salute to his lord. He didn't feel upset and it was more like one of his men. His elite guards were all in formation when he handed her a summoning paper. He wanted to talk to his War Wolves representative just as he wanted to talk to his officers. It was time to put an end to this war definitively.
Quickly the leader of the division of the war wolves arrived and knelt before him. The level of devotion and respect the War Wolves had was almost fanatical if he had to say so. Many thought that he was a chosen one of the old gods brought to take revenge for the damage caused courtesy of the other kingdoms. Truth be told hariric didn't care if they were fanatics as long as they were loyal anyway.
''Captain How much would it cost to sneak a team into King's landing to get the royal family out? Your men are the best suited for this task and there is no one I would trust more to do a difficult task like this than yourselves.'' Hariric could see the captain come to attention. The idea of his lord trusting him was good enough. Hariric felt these people deserved respect due to the monstrous levels of training they put themselves through.
''As indicated, I always have a team in each of the lands, either to observe troop movements or to observe anything that can be declared unusual, my lord. Mobilizing a team is not impossible. If what you want above all is to sneak in, it will be done, but why save the lives of those who have naturally dedicated themselves to complicating yours?''. Although he was strangely hariric he encouraged his men to ask questions.
''I understand the anger towards none other than the prince. That vile monster who wants to sit on the iron throne is nothing short of responsible for this and believe me when I say that all you have to do is tear it to pieces. But you know what I think. In the North the family is not responsible for the sins of relatives.'' It was the truth for hariric.
''Ordering a team to remove Lady Elia shouldn't be a problem of any kind, my lord. Difficult yes. But thanks to our rat users we have excellent maps of what the entire fortress is. Sorry if it's a silly question, my lord, but why take them out? Is there a threat to them? And if so, what can my wolves expect?''. The commander had to question that he had scared the lord of him regarding the royal family.
''There is an agreement between Lord Jon Arryn and Lord Tywin Lannister. If the war goes well for the Targaryen side they will both try to use this as a way to make themselves excessively loyal. But in the event that we win the battle against Prince Tywin he intends to sacrifice part of the city and make himself seen as the peacemaker to bring peace to the seven kingdoms. Hariric growled in disgust.
''that's horrible. Then the princess and her children would be sacrificed like animals nothing more and nothing less than to appease and attract a sense that they have done things right. Why, however, have Arryn and Lannister thought so? They seemed to think that they actually had the upper hand after all.'' The commander was disgusted.
''for a Lannister the only thing that matters is what Lannister is, no more, no less. They will sacrifice everyone in their way if they can get away with it and Princess Elia is an insult to Tywin Lanister due to the fact that she was the one who became a princess. Something that I would gladly see eradicated. I may not like targaryens. But I will never let a child suffer for no apparent reason.'' Harry wasn't lying. He did not like the house of dragons. They thought they were too superior. But in his mind he felt they were just inadequate.
''I will send the squad to evacuate the city just as they are attacking it. We can use a black ship for movement my lord. They are extremely fast and they are the ones that allow us to move the troops easily.'' The commander now understood his lord better. He was a great man in his mind. Being willing to save lives even if they didn't depend on him. However, he wondered why Doran Martell didn't get his sister out of there?
''I don't know. I have no idea why she hasn't taken her sister out of the capital. Either he's very confident about it thinking that there's no way he could harm her with this war or he possibly writes her off for some reason. Anyway with her safe we can know more about her motivations. Say what you want about him but they would never take him by surprise.
''My lord, there is a question I have. What are the other orders as well? It is possible that if we go after her we will have to face guards and much more regarding them. What should we do about it?''. The commander was eagerly awaiting the answer.
''If someone gets in your way, give the following order: without mercy, without compassion and without pity. Anyone who gets in your way is to be treated with extreme prejudice unless they are royal guard. If they are members of the royal guard, I want them alive. I want it to be known that the so-called best knights of Westeros are a pittance compared to the ones that dwell in the shadows hunting everyone." Hariric had an evil smile.
''it is possible that the king has at least the protection of two royal guards. The prince has the others with him. Don't kill them. I want them alive. They will be the message that the southern knights are by no means the great fighters that everyone thinks they are.'' Hariric knew that it was a risk to give such orders but he was satisfied.
The commander nodded and left as quickly and silently as he arrived. Truth be told he was excited by the fact that he was able to test the abilities of the royal guard. The best knights of the seven kingdoms. However, that was not all he wanted. His lord wanted to send a beautiful message. Those who wanted Elia Martell possibly killed would send a powerful advance guard. He would make sure they ended up dead by all means.
Hariric felt at that moment nothing but satisfaction. He knew it. Nemesis was satisfied. Humiliation was a form of revenge. So far things had gone really well really and that was all that mattered in Hariric's mind. By destroying enemy armies he was sending himself the right message. He knew that just for that nemesis was satisfied, did she know that she wanted more? Of course she wanted more. She wanted her to bathe in the regrets and sacrifices of his enemies.
A word came that their legion commanders were there. With the others being out he was satisfied to know that he had fifty thousand men on his side of which twenty five thousand were infantry. Each of the remaining commanders took up positions as he drew out letters for them to read. There's nothing better than knowing you had competent commanders to help you lead with the war of all things.
''As you can see, gentlemen, my brother has fulfilled what was expected of him. He has displayed incredible skill that many I'm sure wanted to discuss seemed impossible but he ned is at his best and he has been able to make the pussies of the south die and best of all. The Freys no longer exist. I toast to that my lords." And with that he poured some wine for all of them.
''with the freys destroyed, the occasional annoyance we would have received is over. However that will mean my lord that potentially the southerners will make a fuss of him for the fact that he has killed an entire house my lord. Rickon eyed his lord carefully. The truth is that he felt some pity for his lord, how else was he supposed to feel about it?
''Leave what the idiots with delusions of grandeur say to me. I'll personally see that they all know exactly where they should be saying their stuff when in reality they should be happy their shit isn't getting in their faces.'' Hariric was certainly in a good mood from his brother's achievement. The few survivors of it all would hail his brother as the silent wolf.
''At least he knows how to do his job. She's not one of those southern cunts that talks about honor. I will be the first to say that I feared that you might put the honor and glory of war before common sense, my lord. I think I have to say it's good news that it didn't turn out like that either way.'' Jon was actually happy about the fact that ned wasn't like those jerks from the south.
''ned is not an idiot. He knows that giving an enemy a chance is the dumbest thing to do. And I like being able to say that my brother has lived up to what was expected of him and has been able to put our enemies in his place. Thirty thousand dead is not a bad casualty really.'' His brother would be remembered for this as he should be.
''Anyway, my lord, if the battle of Eddad went well, I must assume that then the battles throughout the North have gone well as well. That the southern threat that they try to conquer us in some way has been dealt with, hasn't it?'' The idea that they did not have to fear the threat of conquest in any way made Willem especially happy.
''The advances launched by what is the enemy force have been dealt with. Lord manderly ended the eastern threat not only by destroying the fleet but also by destroying the port. People will forever remember the arrival of the northern frigates as one more example of why they should fear such ships. On the other hand, the battle of the domain fleet was on the high seas but only a few escaped from it." The smile on his face said everything he needed to know about it.
''those bastards are finally learning. You don't fuck with the North. Thank you Lord Stark. It is you and only you who brought this victory to the North. The one who has managed to make the north proud again and tell those fucking cunts that we are the strongest.'' Alec grinned like crazy. The thought of being able to tell the southerners that they were no longer the biggest threat made the man very happy.
''We still have one battle left, gentlemen. And it is the hardest of all. A true pitched battle between the north and the south. The best that the North has against the best that the South has. It's far from an easy battle to fight of all things.'' It wouldn't be the easiest battle of all time.
''My lord, is there really a chance that we may encounter a serious threat among the forces of the Targaryens? In other words, we can find clearly capable commanders, but there will be above all those who think that we in the north are inferior if you stop to point it out. Rickon of course knew that the biggest part of a battle was the commanders.
''besides the prince there are a few others who stand out as serious threats. This domain tarly is a more than skilled commander. There is also Prince Lewyn Martell who leads the forces of Dorne. There are not many more to mention but among those three there may be something wrong. However, we must also point out the idiot force like mace tyrell''. Of all the gentlemen to be mentioned, that was a name that caused laughter.
''I think it's only if we have that man that we can see a lot of the Southerners' plans go awry. That idiot will be incapable of making the most accurate decisions for the south. He honestly is a complete idiot and a worthless lout. Jon had no respect for southerners. Not for nothing but for his ideas. But if there was a southerner who took the cake then it was mace tyrell.
''We will have the opportunity to put him in his place. To him and all these many. Fortunately, Tywin Lannister is currently heading towards King's Landing. Why? No idea. Instead of coming to help. He possibly has some kind of plan in mind. Anyway, we're going to take care of these southern pussies ourselves. Later we'll worry about the stupid lion's plans.'' In no way was he telling his commanders that the lion was somehow planning to be alert in case the war went wrong to support another possible candidate for king.
The commanders each spoke looking at the data at hand. They knew from their distant observers that the enemy army was at least eighty thousand strong. That was a fair number of enemy forces if you had to say so. And also a real threat to work with if you stopped to think about it. But at the same time everyone agreed on various data. The armies lacked capable and competent commanders being chosen more than anything for what it was to be the lord of this land.
As if that wasn't good enough for them if you had to stop and think about it they had a significant advantage in the way that their soldiers were all farmers and farmers conscripted to serve as a fighting force. Certainly there were gentlemen. There were certainly men there who had training. But they lacked discipline and what is more important they lacked real military forces beyond their cavalry. Naturally, the idea of such a useful cavalry was eliminated neither more nor less than the fact that they had the means to drive the horses crazy, which would allow them to finish off the fallen cavalry.
But hariric knew better, the cult of R'Hllor was in on this and they possibly had some fucking plan somehow. He was far from idiotic enough not to assume that they could be a threat in more ways than one. Only an idiot would be ignorant of the skill and ability of a group of religious fanatics. And even more so because the prince was working with them of all things, what did they have on the prince? Or were they in this chasing the biggest fish?
Kill every single priest they see. He didn't know if they would be on the battlefield. I didn't know if they would be there. But he was convinced that they would potentially appear and if there was a reality that he knew, it was that it was better to be cautious. His fenrir partner touched his hand and he reciprocated. They would go to the battlefield in one day. They would face death and he would make sure to kill said prince. In addition to using one of the best known curses of the black family. If that prince somehow thought he could get away with just thinking somehow he could get his hands on him the family would learn better.
-Camp Targaryen-
Rhaegar Targaryen was sitting quietly thinking about things. The truth is that things had gotten out of hand. He had plotted to murder Hariric Stark as well as his brothers so that the child born to Lyanna Stark would take over the north. With the boy in control of the North, House Targaryens would truly control the North, which was excellent news in his mind. But his plans were broken when the priests in charge of such a task ended up dead. Then Rickard Stark appeared in court and demanded the return of his daughter. As expected of his father, he locked him up in the black cells and waited for her execution by fire. What nobody expected is that he escaped from there.
Without a hostage, House Stark sent for their banners. They did not know the numbers of her army which was a very serious pain but she had the support of the priests where with her help she took Lyanna Stark to the tower of joy and forced her. Yeah. It wasn't the best thing but the needs of the many outweighed the few and whether House Stark or the foolish girl cared only one heir to both magical lines would be powerful enough to take on the other. So he did what he had to do even if it was horrible and abominable. Elia warned her that if she thought of putting her hands on her one more time, she would kill him herself.
His joy at having superior numbers quickly went to hell. One of his visionaries informed him that the northern forces had overcome their enemies with only a small fraction of their army and that meant in a nutshell that the bulk of the northern army advanced mercilessly with only one mission in mind. This mission was the destruction of his life. He knew that Hariric Stark would never kill a child. He had limits. However, it led him to make unsavory alliances such as offering Ashara Dayne to House Frey for her services in reality. As well as reaching agreements with Tywin Lannister and Jon Arryn.
Desperate measures were needed to deal with the Stark threat. Because it was a real threat. The truth is that he never believed it possible but the red priests spoke of him as a magic user, what form of magic? He didn't know. But it wasn't until the witch Kinvara arrived that she warned him of the great power wielded by the man known as Hariric Stark and that to combat that power he would need all the power possible on his side. So I come to an agreement with them. And as for worrying about the faith of the seven. He knew ways to eliminate them and weaken them even more. It did not matter. What mattered was that the northern attack force had to be stopped by all means.
This war was complicated at best. Of course that was if things went on as they were supposed to. He knew that a man of genius like Hariric Stark couldn't possibly be left with just strengthening the North economically realizing that one day he would have to put on a show of force. Whether he liked it or not things were that the North above all things had to possibly be more advanced than it was. And the proof was right where he was at that moment with only half the men in the domain present.
It's true. Fifty thousand men was a serious number. But Rhaegar was far from a fool. Long ago he had realized that in war superior numbers were as valuable as the quality of the troops. The North was possibly always in the least number of warriors. But their ferocity, strength and resistance made them a fearsome army. If the North had become even more militaristic as he feared possibly his names would have been increased and more tactical.
It didn't help that of his loyal servants only Kinvara was present of all things. Jon was in the Stormlands. He had gone to recruit right there but Robert Baratheon had declared him a traitor and started a battle with him with the intention of eliminating him. He obviously should have guessed that the damned Baratheon would think with the damned ass of him. That Stark woman was a man's wet dream and he wanted to possess her above all else. The truth is that she was just a tool. Once she had given him the heir she needed then he he could have had her anyway.
As if that wasn't enough most of his commanders were essentially looking down on the Stark lord. It could be said in many ways that most thought the Starks were just bloody heathen assholes. He shuddered. If House Stark somehow found out half the things that were being said about those here, they wouldn't be surprised if they cut all ties to the seven kingdoms. That is if they survived this. He still doubted it. He had a secret weapon to defeat the damn Stark by all means and it didn't matter how much magic he had in his hand.
''We shouldn't have to worry. Even if we only have half the Dominion forces we still vastly outnumber those Starks. They have always had a small army. Forty thousand men as many have always had. They will be no match for all the force we will be unleashing on them.'' Mace Tyrell. Highgarden's Fatty. The Olaf of the south. That's what many called it. He sincerely felt that this war could only be used for his benefit. House Stark was full of fools for even thinking that they had a chance to face the threat that was the entire southern army.
''You shouldn't talk about them like you know what they're going to do no way Mace. From what we know Lord Stark has developed tactics and methods to be able to fight the armies of the south. That boy is not an idiot. Although I'll give it to you that it's stupid to go to war over such a ridiculous thing''. Randyll looked with very annoyed eyes at the lord of the south and lord of the domain.
''ha, and what are those dogs going to do, huh? Are they going to come and bite my ankles somehow? House Stark is in no way ready or prepared in any way for what it is like to go to war against the entire south. They are so few that they will be swept away as worthless crap.'' Mace Tyrell scoffed at what in his mind was a waste of time. What did it matter what people thought? What did it matter what that Stark bastard somehow believed?
''Only an idiot considers the strength of a kingdom easy to overcome. House Stark has shown that they have a lord with a head. I'm sure there was no way they would go to war without a reason. We're messing with a lord who for all we know has been preparing for this of all things.'' Randyll knew that thinking like this was the best way to be prepared.
''and tell me, how could they prepare for the force of our arms huh? We have heavy cavalry while they don't. We have a large number of soldiers while they do not. We have the upper numbers. The top tactic. It doesn't matter how you see it or how you think about it Randyll. The chances of the north defeating us are slim at best.'' Mace scoffed and left the store.
''My apologies my lord. I know that in these times you expect capable commanders who tell you more or less truthfully about things... I don't think we are facing a simple north, my lord. We may be facing a very well-prepared army that will possibly face us with more fire than what is seen.'' Randyll sighed at Mace's idiocy.
''the stupidity of the lord of the south is expected. He's too used to getting his way and doesn't view threats the same way we do, Lord Tarly. He is not a military leader so it is obvious if you stop to think that he is not capable of understanding the threat we are facing right now. Rhaegar took a liking to Lord Tarly. Once he ascended to be king he would make them commander of the kingdom's armies.
''with all due respect my lord. I don't trust this. The Northern army is a complete mystery. And we haven't heard from the Arryns or the Lannisters. For all we know the north may have employed some tactic to ensure that both kingdoms are unable to come to our aid." As much as he hated to admit it to Tarly, Tywin Lannister and his men would be most useful.
''We have the numerical advantage and what is more important: heavy cavalry. With that single fact we can say that we have an advantage. However, I have to agree with you, Randyll, that I find it strange that neither House Arryn nor House Tywin have contacted us again in any way.'' Rhaegar didn't take this well because he felt he was being left out somehow.
''My Lord, if it is not too much to ask, what has become of the forces that were sent to the North? What happened to the two armies we sent to subdue the northern ports? Unless they have fallen I cannot see the North backing down from this war easily.'' Randyll would not be happy to learn that the fleets had fallen. After all the two fleets sent could and were supposed to have the largest navy ever built.
''I don't know anything about exactly what has happened to the port forces. Once they took control of the ports, they were supposed to send letters to me to hear from them. However, nothing is known. I fear that for some reason they have fallen in combat against the marine forces or that they have not yet managed to conquer the ports.'' Rhaegar was annoyed by the very idea that his strategy had somehow been stopped.
''my lord…what if the fleets have sunk? The capital would be unprotected for a naval attack. And it could also be said that the entire western coast would be an easy target for the Stark fleet, are we sure that things can be contained somehow my lord?'' Randyll didn't feel well. If this was true the North would have destroyed the fleets of both the Dominion and the throne and house Arryn.
''I don't know exactly but the next battle could be decisive. The battle against the northern army. If we defeat them and take Hariric Stark hostage, we can have complete control of the north. After that whatever has to be done will be done entirely in our interest. However I will not forget the absence of Arryn and Lannister. That they are not there in their time of need infuriates me.'' The mere idea that two so-called allies were not present infuriated him. What the hell were those two lords of all things thinking?
''my lord I will go and check the men. It is better to make sure that they have their morale up and are more or less aware that they are facing a serious threat. I fear that some of them underestimate the northern forces which could end really badly for all of us.'' The very idea that the southern forces were not ready was a possibility.
''You'd better go then Randyll. I don't like the idea of lord mace somehow spoiling our chances in this regard by making everyone think for whatever reason that we have victory on our side when we're just fighting a rival we know nothing about." Rhaegar was afraid that the idiot mace would make all the soldiers confide in all things with the Northern army and therefore they would think themselves somehow superior and screw up on them in the worst possible way.
Randyll backed away from the prince as he kept in mind the worst possible scenario with mace causing the troops to grow overconfident in regards to the army in front of them. Somehow thinking that House Stark was just sending of all things a force that could be ignored like nothing. He was afraid the idiots would charge forward thinking they had this in the bag. He didn't like the idea of his people dying in a pointless war.
Rhaegar watched Tarly leave and felt a pressure on him. What if he was underestimating Hariric Stark? What if that man was actually more capable than he was? Until now he had gone unnoticed because no one knew of his magic. He had no idea. But according to the priests he gave life to the earth in some way. That's what he did to make sure his land was self-sufficient. But what if that wasn't all? The Valyrian lords were known for their power and strength above all else. Was their magic similar to that of the Valyrian lords in any way?
His concerns made sense because although he knew he had a larger army, the truth be told is that if his enemy was capable of producing a better armed and better prepared army then the odds were not in his favor by any means. But he also knew that as long as he used his magic it could be said that Hriric Stark's power and potential could be matched. However he was not afraid. His secret weapon was at hand and that meant in a nutshell that his chances of losing were much reduced.
''fearing that man is not bad my lord. Fearing magic is possibly one of the most sensible things to do actually. It is possibly one of the decisions that will lead him to know more or less how to face his enemy at a later point. Kinvara smiled at the Targaryen prince in such a way that the hearts of many a man would have stopped beating. Yet the gaze was fanatical and ruthless.
''I am afraid, however, that we know nothing of this man. Whoever he is, how did Hariric Stark get magic out of all things? And the most important question to ask yourself, why of all things does he have magic right now while the rest of his family doesn't? Those are scary questions if you have to ask them.'' Rhaegar was not satisfied with the idea of a Stark having magic.
''harirc Stark is not a threat my prince. Power on earth What does such power matter in comparison to the mighty power of fire that you command? The power of life. That is the power of fire, no more, no less. It doesn't matter what anyone says. Because in the end the power you have is superior. Kinvara dismissed the possibility that Hariric Stark was a real threat to the prince.
''and yet since that man entered the scene nothing and no one has been able to do anything to him. Kinvara is honest. What is the true threat level of this man who calls himself Hariric Stark? What is the chance that he could be a threat against me even with my powers?'' The mere idea that this monster was much more than what he let on was actually a more than serious reason to fear him.
''My prince, his danger comes because he awakened before you the power of magic. The gods of the land have been training and teaching him longer than I have had to teach you. But there is a difference. The earth can burn.'' Kinvara suspected that the gods of the First Men had called upon this man whoever he was to do battle with the influence of the mighty R'Hllor.
''Your power comes from heat. Of the sun. Of life itself. While yours comes from the ground. It's solid. But it is manageable. It is in a few words a force that although powerful can be converted and destroyed without hesitation. You just need to consume it and then the power you have will be greater." She smirked because she could tell the crown prince looked pleased about it.
''…I see, will you participate in the Kinvara battle? Your magical abilities will be a great force. The ability to wield the power of fire will give you a wide advantage over the enemies I have and possibly make them run like rats themselves at the thought of facing a real threat for once." Rhaegar savored the power. He could feel it.
''of course my prince. I have not the slightest intention of leaving you alone and fighting with the present threats. No. I will ensure by all means that the danger and threat of this hariric Stark is cut once and for all in a definitive way. I have that more than clear''. She would back him after all. Without the prince the plans of the priests could not be completed.
''run this message. We will not wait for Tywin Lannister anymore. We will take the initiative in this war. I absolutely refuse to allow Stark to decide the battlefield. Send this information to all commanders. We will fight our enemies tomorrow.'' Rhaegar was pleased. He knew that victory would be his.
''That's how it's done my lord. Tomorrow you will strike down the false gods who have taken a champion thinking somehow that they can oppose the power of the true and only god. Tomorrow you will march to the battlefield determined more than anything to destroy your enemy, that is what you have to do. Kinvara smiled as he slowly removed his clothing. One good thing about his lord's magic was his passion and strength.
-Next morning-
In a simple and easy way you could see the difference of both armies. The army assembled by the people of the south was noisy. You wouldn't stop yelling and screaming. They pointed at the Norteños and some of them even dared to drop their pants and show their asses. However, the northern army was different. Silence. They were just calm. There was no movement. Their gray armor. Their black cloaks. Their spears in the right hand and shields in the left. They could be seen in a battle formation and then it started. The domain cavalry quickly set off charging with the infantry running swiftly behind them…what no one expected is the following.
A horn sounded. And then another. And then another. The horses ran wild. Before anyone had time to do shit all the riders had been knocked to the ground by the angry, rearing animals. The cavalry shot down in an instant and the horses rushing away forcing the infantry to move away from the running horses. And then it rained black. The arrows of the northern archers rained down on them. Mercilessly. Without any mercy. Millimeter precision. The mighty cavalry was torn to pieces by their men felled to the ground and those who could not get up were shot down with arrows. And so they advanced. The northern professional army began its leisurely advance step by step.
Hariric looked at his soldiers and nodded. As a formation they divided into fighting pairs protecting each other by attacking with their swords instead of their spears. A superiority was soon seen. Hariric had ordered the cavalry forward to attack the enemy's rear and they quickly reached the position of the nobles. That should have been it but for a brutal explosion. When he focused all of his senses he realized that it had been a magical explosion and that meant his men were in danger somehow. He decided that then it was time to play more seriously because of the very position of his people.
Faster than anyone could see, Hariric advanced. She guards him at his sides protecting him while he used his magic. Crescents of slashing energy formed cutting down the southern soldiers. People watched with surprise as he broke them in half without missing a step. A large group tried to get to him and tried to subdue him when he just channeled his magic and a brutal explosion immediately hit the entire group. He could practically feel Rhaegar's targaryen eyes on him but he didn't give a shit what the damn lizard thought.
When a large group tried to surround him, he swung his sword into a full swing and swords and scythes formed. They had no times before being sliced in half with absolute skill. Bodies torn in half were sprawled on the ground as it advanced. He could feel the joy of the soldiers from him. His commanders looked at him in surprise. The southern lords saw him as a demon. And that was how he reached the high hill where the lords were while his cavalry was recovering. Of all his riders he could count that quite a few had died. I dont like him. He echoed this letting the magic feel from him. He signaled to them and they immediately charged to finish off what was left of the infantry.
''so the prince of dragons has magic. No. You have no magic. They have given it to you. Let me guess. That red priestess who thinks she can hide in the shadows of me. I find it annoying. Especially when that damn bitch went all the way to the North with the intention of taking my children and using them in her damn plans and rituals. In fact, his beloved wife had informed him after breaking one of the priests of what they planned to do with her children. This was now personal.
''You have no right to speak when you had magic. From the beginning. You and your gods conspired to regain the power of the ancient faith. You were named champion to become the future force that would bring renown once again to the ancients. In how many ways have the ancient gods helped you huh? How much of what you are capable of is not less than action magca huh?" Rhaegar growled in annoyance at said man annoyed with the fact that he dared to say such annoying things to him when he had cheated himself. Every one of the men present turned to look at him while Hariric only raised an eyebrow behind his helmet.
''Is that what the woman and her sect told you? What is the plan of the old gods? God, people are completely blind when all they want is to somehow get away with it so they can get the power they think is theirs. The amount of idiots running this world is just abnormal.'' Hariric sneered while his guards also laughed.
''heathen beast. No wonder that everything the north has achieved is somehow possible to compete with. They are just mere beasts who have been lucky enough to receive a little help from their precious tree gods. Scum in every way.'' Mace didn't hide what he thought. They were pagans no more no less. However he quickly fell over when he was in the Stark's gaze.
''If you think that magic is the key to everything I've achieved then you're even more of an idiot. But let me ask you a question. If I truly have the support of the Old Gods, how can you think that you can stand up to me? You don't have any champions, puppets? Yeah. But not a proper champion if I have to say so.'' Hariric knew that making fun of people could end up biting him in the ass somehow but he couldn't help it.
''That's where you're wrong. For my lord the lord of light has chosen Rhaegar Targaryen to become his champion and he who walks among the living once more. Only an idiot would think that he could hold his own against such power. Surrender and possibly your people will live another pagan day.'' Kinvara smiled cruelly at the black-armored man. But the man was not nervous. No not at all. He wasn't intimidated by her in the least.
''It's just a tool. A simple item to be used for being able to walk among humans on the mortal plane. Honestly, for someone to tell me that this is the biggest threat present is a joke. Emerick takes the royal guards. I want them alive. They will be brought to trial for the kidnapping of my sister. Take the lords alive. I want to be able to negotiate with their houses in the future.'' Hariric could feel the tension rising. Obviously none of the members present could believe what he was saying.
As indicated, it was done. The wild red blob that was Emerick was soon seen to lunge at the two guards. Lewyn and barristan were well trained. But Emerick was a whole different beast if you had to stop and think about it. The other lords drew their swords but it didn't take long to see the superiority. Kinvara tried to conjure fire but found Artemis shooting her arrows at him. The fire witch used the flames to protect herself from the arrows but Artemis's accuracy was excellent. It didn't give him much time to hold out against her before he succumbed. With her occupied, Hariric focused completely on the Targaryen.
''If you had shared your progress with the rest of the kingdoms this would not have to be so Stark. I would have honored your sister by becoming my queen. After all if you are capable of magic she has the same potential and our children would have been even more powerful.'' Rhaegar unsheathed Blackfire and dove alongside his shield to try and hit Hariric. It was just that he lacked physical strength and he soon discovered that he was no match at all for the monstrous strength born of the physical power of Hariric's training and magic as well as rituals.
''Are you seriously coming to me with those? share? You better than anyone should know that the South would not have shared shit with the North. No progress. We would have had to pay for them like rats just to get some of the advances we deserved anyway." Hariric used his skill, strength and size of the sword. He was soon seeing a lot of superiority against Rhaegar. Most greatsword fighters were users of a raw, physical power style. He on the other hand was a combination fighter using precise and powerful attacks designed to destroy the enemy.
''spare me the lecture that if this or that. Ever since the great kingdom was founded, the North has never really felt united. Can you really excuse my house for wanting to keep their distance from your kingdom of all things? Only an idiot just walks up to those who will cruelly bite their hands." Rhaegar had to drop the shield from him. As much as he would have liked to keep using it in every possible way he knew better than to. With now both hands on his sword he better resisted the blows.
''is that really your fucking excuse? What would we bite the hand that feeds us? What did you give us to eat Targaryen? The new gift one of the most fertile stretches of land in the North before I got my magical hands on it became in short the property of the night's watch.'' Hariric glared into his eyes at the prince's mere daring to say things as he did.
''You know well why that was. The guard impressed my ancestor. That woman only saw the sacrifice of the guard of all things. Men who struggled with the most hostile climate and environment to keep others safe from the threats of the wildest of the North. You can't deny the truth. She was right in what she did. Rhaegar narrowly missed an attempt by Hariric to cut him in half. The movement almost hit him. He knew that if he had tried to block then he would be in pieces. He took advantage and tried to attack but imagine his surprise when his sword missed him. He moved faster than he could even imagine.
''please do you take me for stupid? Maybe you think I'm just an idiot but I'm far from being such an idiot that I don't know the truth. As if not knowing that it was all part of a plan by the Targaryen family to prevent the north from feeding itself and thus nurture its new ally in the lands of the rivers''. Hariric struck so hard that he sent Rhaegar flying. The prince hit the ground but got up. I knew why. The blessing of the god of light was giving him strength.
''possibly but can you blame my family for making such a decision Stark? After all, the North was the only one of the seven kingdoms that did not truly go to its knees. No. You stayed strong and at any moment you could have plotted a rebellion. My ancestor did the right thing. The gods have only brought chaos and damage when they even dared to think that they had the right to get into this thinking that they had the authority to do so." With a movement some shadows moved towards Hariric but before they reached him a large black shadow moved knocking them down. This was Fenrir covered in armor. He had been having fun hunting down more than one idiot human.
''oh really? is that the excuse you have? That excuse is complete and utter bullshit that only a jerk would put up. The truth is that the Targaryen house felt too much above the Stark house and instead of working on ways to formalize alliances with our house they thought that the best way was to try to ruin it. And you made the worst mistake planning all this idiot crap.'' Gathering magical energy on his sword, he launched an attack. Rhaegar seeing the attack coming did the sensible thing and dodged but in doing so he lost the sword which was quickly picked up by Fenrir who walked away from him with it.
''What I have done is for the good of the seven Stark kingdoms. A storm of death and misery is coming. No man would be able to bear her. If I have to rape your sister several times so that she gives me a child, believe me, I will do it without hesitation in any way.'' Rhaegar soon realized the mistake of saying those words when Hariric buried his fist in his stomach. He kept the sword from him but he lifted his weight and began to beat him mercilessly. The force of the blows was such that the metal was broken by it.
''is my sister. And what you have done is one of the most disgusting things ever done by men. You must have been well informed that I do not take kindly to those who dare lay a hand on my families. And I think it's time for that lesson to sink even more clearly into some people's minds from what I can tell.'' Hariric took a step closer but a single second later he jumped away. Rhaegar began to laugh and he watched as he began to seep a large amount of magical energy into his body.
''You have taken the Stark sword from me. But in the same way that you are chosen by your god, I am chosen by mine. And believe me you will learn to fear a true god like mine. As if they were his words then a cocoon of orange energy enveloped him. And then he started to grow. Rhaegar's emotions grew more primal. He focused on what it was to kill. He had to feed. He had to consume. He soon ceased to be a handsome prince and in his place was a monster made of fire. A dragon to be exact. The dragon let out a roar. The fighters watched that with fear. With an amplified cry the legions swiftly departed. But the dragon's attention was not on them. But in hariric.
The dragon roared and charged at Hariric who responded by swinging his sword and taking the blow head on. He was thrown into the air but a holding spell was all it took for him to stop on the ground. He moved to see an incoming flame and swung his sword in front before creating a void shield. The void sucked in the flames and shielded Harry who looked once more at the dragon. With a single gesture the surrounding stones were transformed into javelins and launched. The dragon's fiery skin melted them but Hariric wasn't done when he created a stone golem that struck the dragon squarely.
The golem was slow for sure but its massive strength was enough to do some damage. The dragon roared at him and unleashed all the power of its flames on him, melting him by his force, but what the dragon did not expect is that when he took a moment to rest, a black chain formed and tied him by the mouth. The chain not only did that, but also tied him up to prevent him from moving. It just happened that way, and before the dragon knew anything, Hariric's sword had flown through the air, piercing him right through the heart. He looked at the sword but before he could do anything Hariric appeared and manipulated the magic to produce a large amount of electrical energy. The dragon roared in pain.
Hariric snarled and drew his sword before making one last gesture and lopping off the dragon's head. The fiery construct held for a few moments before it broke apart and a wounded Rhaegar fell to the ground. Rhaegar was on his last legs and Hariric approached him mercilessly. The prince of the Targaryen house focused on the gaze of the man he feared and felt great pain. He tried to call fire magic from him but it didn't answer him. Hariric moved closer to him before placing his foot on his chest like a victorious conqueror. Still looking at the man who had dared to take his sister.
''the memory of your house will be extinguished. When everyone talks about your house, everyone will remember that it was the Stark house that demolished it. That it was House Stark and nothing but House Stark that made it possible for them to be torn to pieces like mere animals.'' Hariric knew that monologue was not right but for that there was also a certain ruby that he had in hand. He was going to make sure this man understood and understood better than anyone that ever, ever, he could have gotten away from him in any way.
''your name will be spoken with contempt. The man who in his madness led to the end of a dynasty. Your father may be the crazy one who enjoys burning people. But it was you and nothing more than you that led to the destruction of the Targaryen house. And believe me it will be a real pleasure for me to do such a thing.'' Hariric didn't look anything but calm.
''You thought you could enslave my kingdom. Putting my beloved wife to serve as a common whore to the Freys. Turn my sister into a tool. Eradicate our culture and ways of seeing the world. you were wrong. Death is a very simple punishment for someone like you so I'm going to do you something much worse friend. Hariric could see Rhaegar's eyes widen. Especially when he felt his soul start to be sucked out.
''killing you can only be done once. And taking your body away to be tortured is a big no. No. So I have to do the simplest: I will take your soul. As long as you can exist in that ruby you will feel hungry, you will feel thirsty, you will feel pain, you will have the worst nightmares. Talk about how I'm giving you a great gift with my actions.'' Hariric smiled upon seeing this man's final look. The man was clearly outmatched on that point and he didn't know what to do but say this was bullshit of the worst kind. They couldn't say they weren't warned.
''and only when I die will you be able to pass on to the afterlife. I look forward to you feeling the next life my dear friend because I am eager to stay alive as long as possible. Let's see how it goes.'' With that, Hariric saw the last look of torment from the prince and picked up the ruby. With that in his hand he stowed it away as he could before turning back. His guards advanced mercilessly. Emerick had a few cuts but he had both royal guards. The others had their targets. While Artemis presented only the head of the fire witch she had dared to attack him. A smile spread across his face but he knew this was not the end. He had yet to launch an attack on the capital.
-Ascendant Plane-
R'Hllor couldn't believe it. She really couldn't understand it. She had given everything to Rhaegar. She had made him an avatar of hers in the human world. She had delivered the necessary tools. He was about to do something else when a black scythe ran through him and he saw the smiling face of a Harry James Potter.
''You have lost''.
