Chapter 1478: Cambyses's Thoughts
As Alexander made his promise, Lady Nanazin's heart skipped a beat as she heard that somber voice and met those calm, cool, dark eyes.
Long gone was the soft, playfulness that always hung in there, replaced with a stony, mirthless countenance, filled with determination and even a hint of cruelty.
If anyone was looking for a fight, Alexander would be more than happy to oblige.
And the sight made the woman a bit afraid, fearing trouble and its undue consequences.
But at the same time, she also felt much more reassured- the dangerous, intimidating aura placating her worried heart, 'With enough gifts to placate that bastard Ptolomy and adequate soldiers to prevent him from getting any idea…'
"Just don't do anything reckless." She then only whispered, clear, limpid eyes sweeping over the handsome face.
"Mmm… don't worry. Nothing will occur." Alexander confidently reassured with a nod, before once again promising, "I will also see it to that nothing happens to you or your daughters…for sure. I can only imagine how you must have felt all these years…"
"Virtually forced to be impregnated by a man you did not even know,... giving birth to three children at such a young age,.... bearing the disdain and curse of your kin just because they were girls… forced to be with an abusive man…enduring all those dark acts…. *sigh*... What a tragedy! Rest assured Nanazin, you will never have to suffer ever again."
It was unknown if Alexander was saying this to the poor lady or more to just himself.
But one thing was for certain- he truly meant it. He genuinely felt sorry for the lady and even if it was just as part of his humanity, he wished to let her lead a peaceful, worry free life.
In that effort, he believed he would have bashed heads with Ptolomy even if he was not in a physical relationship with her- even as a bystander he would have felt this was just the right thing to do.
*Drip*, *Drip*, *Drip*
While hearing these words, the sitting lady suddenly felt an immense pressure like never before on her bountiful chest as she found it impossible to hold back her rushing tears.
Everything Alexander said was true- how could Lady Nanazin ever express in words how she had first felt upon seeing the birth of not a son but daughters- three at that.
She still vividly remembered the bone chilling 'fear' she had felt when the delivering lady 'congratulated' her on her birth. At the time she had almost wished the earth to swallow her then and there, and she had almost mentally broken down, losing complete consciousness.
As for all the things that followed after the young fourteen year old came to…. well what more was there to say?
During the following two decades, there were many times when things got so hard that the lady thought it was all a nasty nightmare and that as long as she bore through it, she would wake up any second now.
In fact, there was not an insignificant number of times the lady contemplated hanging a rope just to 'wake up'.
Only the presence of her daughters helped keep her sane. Because she feared if she died… what would happen to them? Ptolomy did barely anything for them.
So without her there, the caring mother feared the worst for her baby chicks.
In fact, these girls were only treated in the palace so well because their mother made sure of it from the back, doing many reluctant things with many other men, all in exchange for various amenities for them.
Among these men was even included her late father in law and the former mad king, as well as her brother in law, Amenheraft. Although credit to the latter, the man never actually did anything to her. He felt it too immoral to touch his own sister in law.
Thus, when forced to be there, he at best just watched with a pallid, unimpressed face.
And in some cases, he even helped her without any sort of 'payment, feeling sorry for her.
But predictably such charity, be it from the man, the Queen mother, or other friendly nobles was rare. For most things, Lady Nanazin had to 'work'.
However despite suffering like this, nobody, not even the Queen Mother had sympathized quite so intimately with her as Alexander had just now…..
Thus suddenly, it was like a dam bursting inside Lady Nanazin, as decades of pent up frustration and grievances came gushing forth out of her all at once, streams rivaling that of the downpour going on outside beginning to steak across her rosy, plump cheeks, and watering the muscled chest of the man beneath her.
...
On another side of the room, shadowed by the pervading dark, a pair of cool, emotionless eyes observed the whole interaction in silence from the bed in the distance.
They belonged to the lady of the house and having been woken up by all the talking, she had heard almost everything the other two in the near distance were discussing- a feat hardly that impressive given they were really not trying to hide anything.
The pair had spoken with each other in a relatively normal voice all the while and given it was the dead of the night with just the sound of rain drifting off in the distance, Cambyses could have heard everything perfectly even if she did not want to.
As for her thoughts on the contents of the discussion…. well they were predictably mixed.
She had been of course overjoyed to hear Alexander rejecting Lady Nanazin's daughter as his mistress- the mother was already enough, to take three more without any cause or benefit, it would have been indeed too much for her and the other wives to bear, just as Alexander predicted.
As for that promise to give them a child within a few years…
Cambyses could easily tell just from the tone of the voice that her man was only being polite and accommodating here.
She did not need to bother with it.
In the same vein, the main wife also did not put much thought into Alexander's travel to Adhan, Mikaya's wedding, or Ptolomy's supposed anger. These were all his problems to solve and it did not seem like he needed any help.
Thus the most thought she put her mind into the matter that most affected her- which was the matter of Alexander's marriage with Azira and Azura.
When she heard it, naturally her first instinct was to oppose it- as she found it unpleasant to share her husband's bed with even more women.
This was both her jealous instinct as a girl and a pragmatic thought given it was already very crowded as is. The last thing she needed was to have her man's already limited time divided even more.
All this was not to even mention the fact these ladies were also true bona fide princesses, also sharing the regal status of 'wife'. So they were nothing like Lady Parthia's daughter Camelia, who was a mistress, but a near peer of Cambyses's own status of 'main wife'.
Combine this with the fact that a woman's family background really mattered in Adhanian culture, Cambyses, coming from a much lower and 'base' lineage, certainly a bit intimidated by their illustrious status.
However, at the same time, Cambyses knew regardless of her own thoughts, there was no point in objecting here- for this was a fight she could never hope to win.
No matter the kind of tantrum she might throw, her husband would marry the twin princesses regardless, due to the political reasons he had already revealed.

So by the end, Cambyses could only a bit sourly console herself with the thought,
'Well, at least it is not that Mikaya. *Snort*, I would have truly lost it if it was that used, loose whore. Hmmp… Azira and Azura are still obedient kids. All they care about is their temple and praying in it all day. I doubt they will even disturb Alex unless he goes to them first. Mmm… so as long as I treat them well, they likely won't cause trouble.'
The fact that Cambyses knew the girls and their naive, innocent character also helped soon scrub much of her reluctance, as she imagined them to be hardly interested in competing for Alexander's time and affection.
Thus by the end, she actually found the thought of the twins quite accommodating.
'Hehe… I wonder how they look under those white robes. Their chest always looks so full.' She then even wistfully added to herself out of nowhere, her adventurous, slightly bisexual trait unknowingly manifesting itself, as she could not help but also imagine the shape of their pink flower, and 'Oh.. and how do they taste down there? I never tasted a true priestess of Ramuh. Will it taste salty like others? Or sweet like honey as they say? Mmmm…'
Curious, the main wife suddenly felt her nimble fingers drifting towards her nether reasons by themselves, already beginning to plan a four way session with them once Alexander brought the twins back from Adhan.
She imagined making the pure black maidens sit side by side, spreading their legs open and….
*Chuu*, *Chuu*, *Chuu*....
The young lady's pink imagination was suddenly shattered when she noticed her man starting to share a deep kiss with another woman.
