Chapter 18: Chapter 18: A Rift Between Us?
The next day, at school. Ami walks into the classroom, a little earlier than usual. Her expression is calm, but her thoughts are running wild. She exchanges a quick glance with Sneha, whose eyes narrow in return. Neither girl smiles.
Soha enters next, sensing something is off. "Hey... everything okay?"
"Ask her," Ami mutters, jutting her chin toward Sneha.
Sneha scoffs, arms crossed. "You're the one who wanted to play the blame game. Don't act innocent now."
Soha blinks. "Wait, what happened between you two?"
Ami sighs. "I don't think this is the place to talk about it."
Sneha tosses her hair back dramatically. "Oh, now she cares about 'the place.' Funny."
Nyra, walking in just then with Alia, immediately picks up on the tension. Her eyes glimmer with curiosity, and she exchanges a knowing glance with Alia.
"Whoa," Nyra drawls, stepping between them. "Did we miss something juicy?"
"Nothing that concerns you," Ami says, voice cold.
Alia smiles sweetly. "Looks like our sweet Ami is not so sweet anymore. What happened? Trouble in your little friendship?"
Sneha glares. "Oh, please. Don't act like you care."
"Actually, I do,"
Alia says, placing a gentle hand on Sneha's arm.
"You seem too cool to hang around someone who stabs people in the back."
Soha's eyes widen. "Alia... stop. You don't even know what's going on."
Nyra saunters toward Ami. "You okay, Ami? You don't need that kind of toxic energy. You have me."
Ami raises an eyebrow. "Since when did I become your project?"
The bell rings. Everyone disperses, but the tension lingers in the air. Alia walks out with Sneha, whispering, "She's not who she seems, you know. Everyone thinks she's the victim, but she's always plotting."
Sneha looks down but doesn't respond. Her expression is unreadable.
Later that afternoon, in the school garden, Alia finds Sneha again.
"You okay?"
Sneha nods stiffly.
"I just want you to know," Alia says with a concerned tone, "if you ever want to talk, I'm here. Ami... she's not easy to deal with. I've known her my whole life."
"She said you tried to ruin her life," Sneha replies bluntly.
Alia's smile fades for a brief second before recovering. "And I could say the same about her."
They sit in silence. Nearby, Nyra talks animatedly with Ami, speaking too cheerfully.
"You're better off without her," Nyra whispers. "Trust me. You have real friends now."
Ami stared ahead with cold eyes.
"Thanks. Guess I should've known."
The following day, the classroom buzzes with excitement. Sneha is announced as the new class president. Students line up to hand her their contributions for the upcoming event.
Ami sits silently, watching everything unfold. Alia stands at the back, arms crossed, eyes glinting with something darker.
In the hallway later, Alia grabs Nyra's arm. "Tonight. We're doing it."
Nyra frowns. "The money thing? Are you sure?"
Alia grins. "Positive."
That night, under the shroud of darkness, Alia and Nyra sneak into the school. Alia carries a flashlight and a small lock pick.
"You really know how to do this?" Nyra whispers.
"Don't underestimate me," Alia replies smugly.
They make their way to the classroom, open the locker, and pull out the envelope filled with money.
"This is crazy," Nyra whispers, voice trembling. "Is it worth it? Just to get back at Ami?"
Alia smiles coldly. "It's not just her. It's the image she built. The perfect little girl. That fake princess image will crumble. First, Ami becomes a thief. Then Sneha, she'll go down with her. Imagine being the class president who 'lost' school funds? Oof. That'll end her little popularity rise "
Nyra hesitates. "Still, what if we get caught?"
> "Oh come on," Alia rolled her eyes. "You've seen the guys here. I just need to say one word and every rumor will become truth. No one questions me."
They stash the money in a hidden locker and slip out into the night.
The next morning.
Ami steps into the school, feeling something strange in the air. Whispered conversations trail in her wake. Heads turn. Eyes narrow.
She walks slowly through the corridor, her heartbeat picking up.
Her POV: What now? What have they done this time...
She meets Soha and Saad near the stairs. Soha gives her a nervous glance.
"Hey... Ami. Something weird is going on. People are talking."
"About what?"
"I think... about you. The class fund money. They're saying it went missing."
Ami freezes.
Saad joins them, his expression serious. "People think you took it."
Ami's eyes narrow. "They think I took it?"
Soha nods. "Sneha hasn't said anything yet, but the class is buzzing."
Ami clenches her fists, eyes burning.
Her POV: So this is the plan, huh Alia? Frame me. Isolate Sneha. Break both of us in one shot.
She forces a smile. "Let them talk. I've dealt with worse."
Soha grabs her arm gently. "We'll figure this out, okay?"
Alia watching from the third-floor railing, smirking as chaos brews below.
"Let the fun begin," she whispers.
