Chapter 55: Fat Bandit: I Let My Guard Down, Didn’t Dodge
The very next second, the fat bandit's upper half started drifting sideways… completely separate from his lower half.
He'd been cleanly sliced in half.
It all happened so fast, his protective shield hadn't even flickered out. Blood erupted from his lower torso, soaking the shimmering rock shield bright red.
Eula immediately rushed to Xu Zheng's side, her delicate hand covering his eyes.
"Don't look," she said softly.
'Seriously? I'm the one who did that. Bit late to protect my innocent little eyes now, don't you think?'
Xu Zheng didn't say it out loud, but the sarcasm was doing jumping jacks in his brain.
Amber, meanwhile, stood frozen with shock. Her own fully charged attack hadn't even scratched that guy's defense, and yet this little kid…?
Doubt crept into her mind like a thief in the night.
'Am I even worthy of being called a Knight...?'
She suddenly felt like a useless decorative mascot with bunny ears.
Xu Zheng's soundwave attack hadn't stopped at the fat guy—it had sliced through several nearby bandits too. Limbs. Flying. Everywhere.
At that moment, a thick ice wall slammed down in front of the shockwave, halting its deadly advance.
It was the bandit leader, Livien, using the Cryo Vision on his waist to summon the wall.
"Hmph," he scoffed, arms crossed. "Your attack's weird, sure. But it's not unstoppable."
Xu Zheng blinked. Okay, not bad. Gotta give credit where it's due—the guy figured out the weakness fast.
From the tall grass nearby, more figures stood up.
Xu Zheng squinted. "...No freaking way."
They were familiar. Too familiar.
Fatuus Skirmishers.
Six of them. A full team.
—A Pyro Rifleman, for sniping in the back.
—An Anemo Fist Vanguard, to pull enemies together.
—A Hydro Heavy Gunner, for applying wet status and healing.
—A Cryo Heavy Gunner, to freeze after wet.
—An Electro Hammer guy, for that final shocking boom.
—And a Geo Rifleman, who could generate protective shields.
Alone? Meh. Together? They were basically a walking party wipe mechanic from hell.
And behind them?
A Pyro Debt Collector—an elite Fatuus operative. And… oh great, there's Chayevich, looking deranged and glowing like a radioactive raccoon. His Delusion hummed ominously on his waist.
"Ah, damn."
The whole villain party was basically here.
Xu Zheng clapped his hands and gave a signal. Xiangling, still in the wagon, instantly got it. She jumped out and fired a flare high into the sky.
BOOM!
A brilliant firework exploded over the forest.
Miles away, in Liyue, Ganyu and Keqing saw the signal—and immediately sprang into action, leading the Millelith toward the location.
They hadn't taken the shortcut with Xu Zheng's group, to avoid tipping off the enemy.
Now they were on the move—but it'd take time.
Ganyu, meanwhile, was on edge for another reason entirely.
It had been three days.
Three whole days without a single serving of Xu Zheng.
'Is he eating well? Sleeping okay? Did Xiangling remember to rub his back after meals?!'
Keqing was getting real tired of it.
Ganyu hadn't stopped talking about him since they set up camp. Keqing had heard "I hope Xu Zheng's okay" more times than she'd heard "Electro damage scales with ATK" in her entire life.
She was starting to doubt whether the person beside her was even the same quiet, elegant Ganyu anymore.
Meanwhile, the Fatuus also noticed the firework.
They frowned. This wasn't good.
"You dare challenge Mondstadt?" Eula stepped forward, her voice sharp.
The Pyro Debt Collector adjusted his gloves. "You misunderstand. We're not here for your nation. Just your little friend behind you."
"He used questionable means to acquire Chayevich's estate. We're simply collecting debt."
"You want justice? Go to Liyue and talk to the Qixing. We're not handing him over."
"Fine. Then we'll take him ourselves."
The Pyro Debt Collector wasn't here for diplomacy. His only job was to collect.
Kill Xu Zheng. Get out.
Easy.
Eula moved to shield Xu Zheng. At the same time, Xiangling, Yanfei, and Hu Tao took positions in front of him.
Xu Zheng quickly sized up the battlefield.
On their side: Amber, Eula, Xiangling, Yanfei, Hu Tao—five Vision holders.
On the enemy side: six elite Skirmishers, the Debt Collector, Livien, the skinny bandit, and Chayevich.
Ten versus five.
Not great odds.
If the enemies managed to stall his team, they could massacre the convoy—and maybe him too, for dessert.
Kinda like what Xu Zheng just did to that fat bandit, actually. Except now he was on the menu.
He'd only taken that guy out by luck. If the guy had just summoned a wall instead of trusting his shield, Xu Zheng would've been toast.
Battle erupted.
While the Fatuus tied down his team, Livien and Chayevich slipped through the chaos, making a beeline for Xu Zheng.
Their plan was simple: Kill Xu Zheng. Retreat.
They had a pretty good idea what that firework meant.
They didn't want to be around when Liyue's finest dropped in like an angry meteor.
On their way, they steamrolled several Knights.
Eula spotted the flanking move. Using her Ice Tide Vortex skill, she blasted the Fatuus around her and dashed toward Xu Zheng.
"Eula-jie! Hold them off for thirty seconds!" Xu Zheng shouted.
Eula opened her mouth to respond—
"I'll remember this grudge forever!" he added.
Even in the middle of a warzone, she couldn't help but chuckle.
Her eyes hardened. She gripped her greatsword, Cryo energy flaring.
She didn't need to win. She just needed to stall.
Livien was no slouch—he could go toe-to-toe with her. With Chayevich helping, she wasn't exactly dominating.
Xu Zheng summoned his system UI and yanked open the Wish screen.
He had enough Primogems for two pulls.
"Please... give me something good," he muttered.
Maybe a shield skill? A get-out-of-death-free card?
"Confirm draw."
