Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Mysterious Figure
Peeking out the door, Astel saw that the sky was pitch black, the time looking to be around midnight.
"Perfect" Astel whispered under his breath, he started by strapping a sharpened steel dagger on to his left forearm and putting on a black cloak embroidered with a mismatch of golden symbols and patterns that looked to be hand sowned, showing the affection that the maker had for the cloaks owner, he had gotten as a gift from his uncle for his 15th birthday, he had wanted to take it to the Labyrinth with him as it was his first time entering but seeing the state his clothes returned in, he felt lucky that at the last moment he'd decided to leave it at home and not bring it in with him.
Turning westward from his house Astel could see majestic green mountains spanning over an endless amount of land, to the east of his house was the Labyrinth, to the south was the slums, and finally to the north of his house was the residence of the Ice Jade sect. The green mountains was the place he would be visiting tonight, although the mountains wouldn't have any demonic or fierce beasts, there would be plenty of other dangerous animals, although he knew the route so well that he'd probably be able to traverse it blindfolded, it would be wishful thinking to think that there would never be any unforeseen circumstances and unknown variables that would suddenly appear, hence the dagger.
Sneaking past the rusted metal houses that might he add were looking as bleak and dilapidated as ever, Astel kept taking glances at the broken streetlights he passed, feeling grateful to whoever broke them, having a feeling that his hidden benefactor had used them for less than savoury reasons than what he was using them for.
Speeding up, Astel started to walk on the outer edge of his feet, rolling the heels of his feet to avoid making sound and bending his knees to make himself less visible moving about as stealthily as possible, years of experience showing itself, hoping the fruits of his labour would start to pay off yet even after everything he to conceal himself, not everything always went to plan...
"Hey you what are you doing?" a gruff, masculine voice rang out from behind Astel.
Astel froze, stopping in his tracks like a deer caught in headlights, going through all the possibilities in his head, the Sun's enhancement spending up his thoughts, Astel fell deep into thought, the pace he was heading too was a rejuvenating spring he found in the mountains while exploring as a child, he wasn't exactly close to it but he wasn't far either, it was his and his Uncle's main source of cleanliness allowing them to not catch any diseases and was also their main source of water.
"Do I let him go?" Contemplating Astel fell into a dilemma, whoever spotted him didn't know why he was sneaking around so late at night, he probably thought that he was a thief or robber or something along the lines of that, he could play it off acting like he got caught doing something embarrassing that justifies sneaking around at night like he was doing now that doesn't make him look a criminal, like cheating on his partner, or saying he got robbed, but if the man took a closer look at him, he'd be able to notice the bloodstains on his clothes that even his cloak couldn't hide, worst case scenario, the man notices the blood stains and thinks that he's a serial killer or assasin and starts calling for help.
He would have nowhere to go, he couldn't go home in case he got followed, he wasn't dumb enough to think that he knew the area around her better than the locals, and although the Sun enhanced his speed a great bit, that was a great bit to him, probably a minor increase to anyone else, thinking his undeveloped teenage body would be able to outrun several grown men and women, would make him delusional, and if he ever got caught, the bloodstains plus the cloak and dagger, he wouldn't be able to beat the allagations of being thought of as an assassin, he'd be lucky if he didn't get beaten to death then and there, haven't come to a conclusion yet, Astel heard the gruff speak again.
"Hey you, I'm talking to you, what are you doing sneaking around so late at night?"
The stress of being caught adding to the limited time frame he had, Astel finally came to a conclusion...
Astel's amythyst eyes started shining with a cold light, pulling out the dagger frim the strap on his left forearm, spinning it so its blade started to point upward towards his forearm, concealing it yet ready to use at any moment, taking deep breaths to calm himself from what he was about to do, just as he was about to turn around and rush at the man he heard him speak again.
"Hey you, you in green coat, what are you doing around here?" The man spoke again sounding confused this time, yet unknown to him, he want the only one feeling confused, "Green coat? Was I not the one he was talking to?" Astel thought, feeling more confused than he'd ever felt before in his life.
Slowly turning around Astel saw two figures a couple meters away from him, one was a man probably forty to fifty years of age, yet his face covered in wrinkles made him look in his sixties, another was a teenager his looks obscured by the dark green coat he was wearing, yet before he could take another look at him, he saw the mysterious figure turn to look at him before instantly vanishing, yet just before the figure disappeared, Astel couldn't help but swear he saw a smile forming on the mysterious figure's face...
