Heaven's gate

Chapter 8: Elemental heart

Silas clenched his fists tightly, and he could feel that his strength had improved. He felt like crushing a potato with his bare hands would be quite easy.

Looking at the system menu, he was deep in thought as many crazy ideas flooded his mind, and he had many questions regarding the monster form he took back then.

As if the system could read his mind, a huge window popped up in front of him with a large description. Seeing that, Silas' eyelid twitched as he understood that the system could definitely read his mind...

So to summarize… let’s say that the four-legged creature is also a character that he can now switch between, but when one is awake, the other will be asleep. To top it all off, there is a time difference between both worlds, i.e., 1:1000. That is, if Silas spent 1000 hours as that four-legged creature, only one hour would have passed in the real world. It’s not limited to that, as the same applies the other way around. If Silas spends 1000 hours in the human world, only one hour would have passed there.

(A/N: Going forth, I will use "monster world" and "human world" to differentiate between both worlds.)

Silas breathed a sigh of relief as he realized he wouldn’t be in a situation where he would be introduced to his own skeletal remains due to too much time passing while he was in another world. Let’s think of it this way: if Silas spent a month in the human world and then went back to the monster world, more than 80 years would have passed. Maybe even his skeleton would have disappeared. Now, he no longer needed to be afraid. The main thing that affects human development is their limited lifespan, but based on what he learned, that shackle had loosened for him by a thousand times.

And most importantly, both avatars’ statuses would be synchronized.

Knowing that both characters’ stats could be synchronized, Silas became excited as he thought about all the benefits it could bring him.

The first thing he thought about was the elemental berries he ate in the monster world. Even though he had multiple doubts at that time, Silas wasn’t in a situation to think much about it. Now he asked the system about his doubts and got confirmation.

Regarding elemental affinity, Silas had a basic idea, but based on what he learned from the system and his conjecture, he knew he had stumbled upon a gold mine.

Elemental affinity is not something people at his level should even come in contact with. The reason he hadn’t received notifications from the system when he consumed berries of different elements in the monster world was that his body didn’t have an elemental heart.

Based on what he knew, people can get evolution points from meat and special fruits inside the gate, but elemental affinity? Definitely not.

Some people do awaken an elemental heart when they enter the bronze rank gate and step into the voyager rank.

But the chance of awakening an elemental heart is pretty low, and people who are unable to awaken an elemental heart can only concentrate on strengthening their bodies and learning skills related to them. They won’t be able to learn any skills related to elements. Even those who do awaken an elemental heart can only learn skills related to the specific element they possess and can’t learn skills from other elements. The number of elements they awaken is fixed, and people can’t awaken new elements as they progress.

But Silas’ situation was completely different. Once he consumes enough fruits and obtains 100 points of elemental affinity, he will be able to awaken an elemental heart for that particular affinity. However, Silas knew that it wouldn’t be easy, as the berries he consumed could only give him 0.001 points of elemental affinity, which, to be honest, was too little. But Silas wasn’t the type to worry over such trivial stuff, as he knew that if he could awaken an elemental heart, his strength and status would take a leap. Unlike people who can only train their bodies, those who awaken an elemental heart can train both their bodies and magic. They can assimilate elements into their bodies, making them multiple times more powerful compared to their peers at the same level. Silas knew that the opportunity given to him could break the innate shackles of the talents he was born with.

As of now, Silas had gained 0.9 evolution points from all the berries he consumed. Adding the 1 point he obtained from eating the meat of the Ironclad Lizard, he had reached 1.9 evolution points. He needed another 98.1 evolution points to attempt breaking the shackles of the iron rank.

As for obtaining the elemental heart, he had only accumulated about 0.01 points for nine different elements, so there was a long way to go. Silas wasn’t too worried about getting stuck in the iron rank gate for a long time because he decided to spend all his time on the other side as the four-legged creature until he accumulated 100 points for all the different elemental affinities.
