Chapter 8: Chapter 8: The Architect’s Gambit
"You broke their rules.
Now they'll send everything they built to fix you — or bury you."
—Unknown Whisper, from the Tower's lost floor logs
[Reentry – Tower Floor 9: The Spiral Temple]
Sage landed hard.
Not from fall damage — but because the Tower's system was resisting his presence.
The air shimmered with flickers of code, static in the sky, as if his body glitched against the laws of this world. Every step he took was met with resistance, like walking upstream against gravity.
"Error: Unauthorized trait detected – Heavenless Variant."
"Warning: Ascension route compromised."
"System stabilization initiated – Executive Administrator deployed."
Sage smirked as he cracked his neck.
"So... they're sending their manager now?"
[System Response: ARCHITECT CLASS – "LYSSUS, THE LAWSMITH" DEPLOYED]
The Tower trembled.
Above the massive, floating spiral temple, a 100-meter-long obsidian cube hovered in silence, before splitting apart. From within emerged a being of polished silver and radiant circuits — humanoid in shape, but cold and perfect in symmetry.
It spoke with no tone, only decree:
"Subject 3479-Hwan. Return your trait for restructuring. Re-assimilation into divine architecture is mandatory. Resistance is an error."
Sage replied casually, eyes half-lidded, voice cool:
"Resist this."
[Combat Initiated – BOSS CLASS: Architect Lyssus]
Lyssus warped forward, arm transforming into a ten-bladed ring, spinning like a celestial buzzsaw. Every slice bent the rules — cutting through reality, not flesh.
SLASH – SLASH – SLASH – SLASH
Sage dodged none.
Instead…
He let them hit.
SPARK!
The blades carved into his skin, but the wounds didn't bleed.
Because his martial will was no longer flesh-bound.
"Heavenless Passive – Thoughtform Projection"
Damage transferred to external construct: [Phantom Body Shell]
Sage blurred forward, lifting one foot with focused control.
"Modern Martial Form X – Heavenless Howl: 2nd Sequence"
"Temple Breaker."
BOOOOOOM!
He slammed his foot into the floor.
A reverse earthquake erupted — instead of shattering the earth, it sent destruction upward. The spiral temple's top levels collapsed into the sky, forcing Lyssus to retreat mid-air.
"That move… should be impossible…"
Sage grinned, sharp and wild.
"Should be. But guess what?"
"I make martial arts up as I go now."
[Meanwhile – Tower Administration Chamber, Floor 99]
Seven masked beings, robed in gold, stood in a circle. Their titles glowed in hovering scripts:
• Arch-Seer of Trials
• Vaultmaster of Law
• Bearer of Prophecy
• Fifth Finger of Judgment
• The Broken Choir
• Twin Wills of the Sky
• ANDROMEDA – Overseer AI Fragment
A vision of Sage flickered in the center.
He stood atop the corpse of Lyssus, pulling out its core with one hand while crushing a tower glyph with the other.
The Arch-Seer whispered:
"This child… has the trait of the First Heaven-Killer."
The AI Overseer responded with cold calculation:
"If he is not stopped by Floor 20… we initiate Skyfall Protocol."
[Back on Floor 9 – Battle Finale]
Lyssus activated his final form — fusing with the temple.
His body became a living fortress, glyphs firing reality-coding beams in all directions.
"Judgmental Code: Complete Existence Rewrite."
"DIE."
Sage didn't flinch.
He closed his eyes.
Breathed in.
Centered.
"Modern Martial Form XI – Heavenless Will: Null Pulse."
He took a single step forward — and everything stopped.
Time. Code. Matter.
The Tower itself hesitated.
CRACK.
SNAP.
FWOOSH.
Lyssus's fortress body imploded, collapsing like a digital building block reduced to concept.
SYSTEM ANNOUNCEMENT: ARCHITECT LYSSUS – DELETED.
Unauthorized trait now marked as Uncontainable.
The Tower will adapt.
But the gods are watching.
[Aftermath – A New Challenger]
As Sage walked across the ruins of Floor 9, he sensed it — someone was waiting.
A woman stepped forward from a rift — clad in black-and-silver armor, her presence calm, but eyes sharp like knives.
She bowed slightly.
"Sage Hwan. I'm Arin, Rank S++ Awakened.
Sent by the World Assembly of Awakeners."
"You're being hunted now."
Sage blinked. Slowly.
"Let them come. I'm tired of killing monsters."
He looked up at the sky.
"Let's see how well humans scream."
SNEAK PEEK:
The world outside the Tower has learned of Sage's trait. World-class awakeners are now assigned to eliminate him before he triggers a full-scale cataclysm — not realizing he's no longer "inside" their system.
