Chapter 8: President - Thunder Emperor Magnus Aurelius

Nora looked at the old man before him and could only confirm that this person was anything but ordinary. However, he had no clue about the man's specific identity.

In truth, those who were called heroes in this world were highly discreet. When carrying out missions, they usually wore masks to avoid drawing attention.

The reason for this was a rule set by the president: A hero is not a celebrity. A hero exists to help people, not to act for fame.

Unlike Nora, the other two immediately recognized who this man was.

The staff member was utterly shocked that such an influential figure would personally oversee a rookie evaluation.

As for Alice, her expression brightened as she greeted him cheerfully:

"President, what brings you here?"

Hearing her address him this way left Nora momentarily stunned—he never expected the old man before him to hold such a high status.

The president of the Hero Association was, in fact, the most powerful and authoritative figure in this world.

Not only that, but he was also the strongest human at present—a D-rank hero.

While few people had seen his face, his title was widely known across the world.

People called him—Thunder Emperor!

Upon hearing Alice's greeting, the old man slowly opened his eyes. The moment his golden eyes appeared, his entire presence seemed to radiate a unique aura.

That aura could be described with a single word—Righteousness!

At first glance, one could tell he was a man of unwavering integrity and heroism.

Looking at Alice, he smiled warmly and said,

"Alice, huh? It's been a while."

She immediately ran up to his side, her fondness for the old man evident. Giggling, she asked:

"President, what are you doing here?"

The old man gently ruffled her hair and replied:

"Is there a problem with me wandering around? I was just looking for a place to cultivate and, at the same time, seeing if I could find any promising young talents to nurture."

At this point, his gaze shifted toward Nora before turning back to Alice.

"Shouldn't you introduce me?" he asked.

"Who's that young man? I don't recall seeing him on the list of heroes."

Heroes in this world had already grown to number in the thousands, far from a small figure. However, as a dedicated president, Magnus made it a point to pay attention to every single one of them.

Of course, in the past, he hadn't possessed such a remarkable ability. It was only after breaking through to a new level that his memory significantly improved, allowing him to achieve this level of attentiveness.

Alice suddenly widened her eyes—she had completely forgotten about this detail. Scratching the back of her head, she turned to Nora and introduced him:

"Hey, Nora, this is the president of the Hero Association. He also happens to be the strongest human at present. People call him Thunder Emperor Magnus Aurelius."

As she spoke, she waved both hands toward the old man for emphasis.

Then, turning to Magnus, she continued:

"That guy is my friend. His name is Nora. He's absolutely a top-tier genius among heroes."

Hearing this, the old man's golden eyes gleamed with interest as he observed Nora. Then, he shifted his gaze back to Alice, chuckling as he asked:

"Haha, this young man looks quite promising. Is he your boyfriend?"

"No, no, of course not! We're just friends!"

Alice immediately refuted Magnus's assumption. Though their relationship was far from ordinary friendship, since neither of them admitted anything, there was no point in pressing the matter.

"Haha, is that so?"

Magnus laughed, but his eyes clearly showed 100% disbelief.

Only a blind man—no, rather, only a fool—would think they were just friends. At the very least, they were very close friends.

However, he quickly shifted his focus. For him, discovering a promising talent—one who could become a pillar of humanity's future—was far more important than idle gossip.

At that moment, he suddenly moved.

His speed was like a gust of wind—no, calling it wind wouldn't do it justice. He was more like a bolt of lightning.

Just now, he had used his lightning element power to enhance his speed, allowing him to appear right in front of Nora in an instant.

Nora flinched.

Standing before Magnus, he suddenly felt small, even though his height was by no means short.

Magnus placed a hand on Nora's shoulder, gave it a few firm pats, then smiled and asked:

"What element do you sense?"

"Element? I don't have any element."

Nora answered straightforwardly without any hesitation.

After all, this wasn't some kind of secret. Sooner or later, the other party would find out, so it was better to say it now.

Magnus was momentarily stunned upon hearing this. This answer was completely different from anything he had expected.

He furrowed his brows and looked at Nora with a puzzled expression before shifting his gaze to Alice.

Contrary to Magnus's confusion, Alice's face carried a mischievous look, but her eyes showed no sign of joking.

In reality, she wasn't the type to joke about important matters. After all, a person with top-tier talent was a great shield for humanity, not something to be taken lightly.

Seeing her certainty, Magnus turned back to Nora and asked with doubt:

"What exactly is going on? She doesn't look like she's joking with me."

At this point, Nora spoke up as well:

"Why does not being able to sense an element mean I can't be a top-tier genius?"

Magnus didn't find this question unreasonable. After all, very few people knew the answer. He explained:

"You see, being able to sense an element provides two key benefits that those who can't sense an element do not have."

Nora immediately became curious. He could guess one of them, but he had no idea what the second one was.

"What exactly are those two benefits?"

Hearing this, the old man continued his explanation:

"The first benefit, which is also the most obvious, is its advantage in combat. Although two people at the same level possess the same base strength, those who can wield elemental power gain an additional boost. Furthermore, their combat flexibility is far superior to those without an element."

"What about the second benefit?" Nora pressed on.

"It's the speed of advancement. Those who can sense an element are also capable of sensing natural energy. That meditative state I was in earlier? That was me cultivating. By sensing natural energy and absorbing it, I can strengthen myself. This is the second benefit."
