Heaven Slaying Blade

Chapter 1558: One-eyed Clan

Chu Mo didn't even know where this thing had emerged from. It looked extraordinarily ugly—a humanoid shape, yet covered in crocodile-like skin, with only one eye bulging outward in the middle of its forehead. Sparse hair sprouted from its head, and its body emitted a rank, fishy smell. Exuding an aura of power at the peak of the Great Saint Realm, the instant it spotted Chu Mo, it snarled and lunged toward him, claws extended, with a beam of light shooting out from the solitary eye!

What surprised Chu Mo was that the beam of light already wielded the power of the ancestral realm!

A monster at the peak of the Great Saint Realm, unleashing a casual strike… with the force of the ancestral realm?

This was truly astonishing. Even when Chu Mo had been at the peak of the Great Saint Realm himself, he wouldn't have dared claim he could casually produce such a level of attack.

Chu Mo's figure vanished from where he stood in an instant, dodging the ancestral-realm-powered attack entirely.

Such speed caught the monster off guard. Yet its reaction was swift: missing its mark, it immediately fled toward the distance. But just as it retreated millions of miles away, a sudden wave of coldness washed over its body.

As if it had become prey to a far more terrifying predator!

The monster let out a deafening roar, its cry horribly grating!

That roar, however, reached the level of a mid-ancestral realm cultivator's strike. Any ordinary Great Saint caught within its sound waves would see their bodies shatter instantly!

After roaring, the icy sensation in the monster's body dissipated. But it still couldn't relax fully—the crocodile-like skin on its body began to redden, and in almost an instant, it seemed covered in a flowing layer of magma.

The surrounding void turned crimson, exuding blistering heat waves.

Having done all this, the monster began searching around.

Chu Mo, at that moment, hovered right above the creature, his cold gaze fixed on it.

"What are you? Why did you attack me?" Chu Mo sent out a telepathic message.

The monster immediately let out a guttural scream, its claw reaching directly for Chu Mo.

The claw gleamed coldly with sharp, lethal brilliance, radiating an immense killing intent!

Clang!

Chu Mo raised his Heaven Slaying Blade, slashing directly at the creature's claw.

Crack!

The crisp sound of bones shattering pierced the air, followed by a hideous wail from the monster. One of its claws had been completely crushed by Chu Mo's strike!

With Chu Mo's immense power, the blow had obliterated the monster's entire arm!

Severely injured, the creature turned around and attempted to flee!

Clang!

Once again, the Heaven Slaying Blade rang out.

This time, another of the monster's arms was severed by Chu Mo.

"If there's absolutely no way to communicate with you, then your fate is sealed—die!" Chu Mo's icy telepathic message blanketed the surrounding void.

The monster stopped on the spot, trembling uncontrollably. It understood perfectly well that escape was impossible. This was bad—today, it had run into an unmovable wall.

"Spare me, immortal! Spare me, immortal!" The creature turned back, using its power to instantly grow two new arms. Its one-eyed gaze toward Chu Mo brimmed with fear.

"What kind of creature are you? Why did you attack me?" Chu Mo demanded.

"I… I am a being of the One-eyed Clan, out hunting… I accidentally offended the immortal. Please, immortal, spare me!" The creature's telepathic message resonated with fear, but Chu Mo could sense that it wasn't as fearful as it seemed. There was likely some hidden trick it hadn't yet revealed.

"I'm passing through this place. Tell me in detail about the beings here." Chu Mo's gaze remained ice-cold, his immense power pressing down on the monster to the point it could barely breathe.

The creature spoke without hesitation: "This is the western region of the Gray Land, the territory of our One-eyed Clan. To the south is Three-leaf Heavenly Venerable's domain, to the north is Red Snake Immortal's territory, and to the east is where Blood River Grand Sovereign resides."

Heavenly Venerables, Immortals, Grand Sovereigns… Chu Mo had never heard of such titles before. Perhaps they were merely honorifics.

"Where is the tunnel?" Chu Mo asked.

"Tunnel?" The One-eyed creature stared at Chu Mo with its large, grotesque eye, hesitating before saying, "I don't know."

"Then die!" Chu Mo declared, raising the Heaven Slaying Blade.

"No, don't kill me! I'll talk! I'll talk!" The One-eyed creature shuddered violently, hastening to say, "Immortal, spare me! I'll tell you everything!"

Through the creature's explanations, Chu Mo pieced together what the Gray Land really was.

It linked the boundaries of multiple universes—a gray zone beyond the Three Realms. The beings here were, by nature, immortal.

But the Gray Land was rife with murder and intrigue. Betrayal and cunning were the norm. With its immortal inhabitants multiplying endlessly and its limited resources dwindling constantly, survival here became a perpetual battle. The place wasn't a complete universe but merely the fringe of countless other universes. Some areas were vast like boundless macrocosms; others were narrow, mere thousands of miles wide. The edges of the Gray Land abutted the walls of those universes.

According to the One-eyed creature, none could breach those barriers—not within its knowledge anyway.

The Gray Land's beings couldn't enter those universes, leaving them access only to what remained of an old, broken tunnel.

From the Gray Land to the tunnel lay five fractures, each controlled by one of five factions.

These factions included the four entities mentioned by the One-eyed creature earlier, while the fifth was governed by an elder named Evil Patriarch in the central Gray Land region.

"Who's the strongest?" Chu Mo asked.

"The strongest is Evil Patriarch. It occupies the central zone of the Gray Land, which is the highest resource area. There… there's a fracture allowing beings at the ancestral realm and below to enter the tunnel and plunder resources."

"Who's the weakest?" Chu Mo probed further.

The creature replied, "The weakest… that's us, the One-eyed Clan. We don't have strong forces…" It abruptly clammed up, its gaze toward Chu Mo wary.

"Do you frequently enter the tunnel?" Chu Mo shifted the topic.

The creature nodded. "Indeed. Every few years, when our population grows too much to sustain, we launch an invasion into the tunnel. Those who survive bring back enormous resources; those who perish… well, they're merely consumables."

Chu Mo stared coldly at the creature. "Everything you've said… is it true?"

Clutching its chest, the One-eyed creature assured, "Every word is true! How could I possibly deceive an immortal?"

"Good, now die!" Chu Mo said, his Heaven Slaying Blade gleaming. With one strike, he cleaved the creature in two.

"Y-You're… dishonest…" The One-eyed creature's words were cut short as it fell dead on the spot.

Chu Mo sneered coldly. He wouldn't buy into such claims of strongest and weakest forces; blindly trusting the One-eyed Clan's supposed inferiority might lead to being crippled upon entry. In a place like this, a force surviving and ruling must be formidable.

Still, Chu Mo could discern pieces of truth in the creature's words. Killing it was necessary—it was too great a liability to leave alive.

Having slain the creature, Chu Mo began heading toward the One-eyed Clan's domain. He wouldn't rush in recklessly; instead, he would assess the situation before making his move. The creature had mentioned five fractures leading into the tunnel; Chu Mo suspected these wouldn't be easy to traverse.

Otherwise, why hadn't powerful beings from the tunnel crossed over to eliminate the Gray Land's inhabitants completely?

Regardless, the tunnel remained indispensable—Qi Xiaoyu and Yiyi were there.

Chu Mo felt his greatest advantage lay in the fact that no one knew his whereabouts. He had to make good use of that.

After journeying through the void for over ten days without encountering another being, Chu Mo finally saw a colossal city emerging in the gray depths of the universe, radiating a majestic aura.

The city seemed like the Gray Land's first giant monster—its walls towering and its architecture wildly diverse, with no two buildings alike.

Various beings flew toward the city from all directions.

Chu Mo observed from afar, then transformed his appearance into that of a One-eyed Clan member and boldly headed toward the city.

Along the way, Chu Mo encountered numerous members of the One-eyed Clan—some tall, some short, some fat, some thin, their levels of cultivation varied. Yet all were uniformly hideous. Not a single being took special notice of Chu Mo. This was the heart of the One-eyed Clan's domain, where few non-clan beings could be spotted. No one would suspect someone daring to impersonate a One-eyed Clan member to infiltrate.

Chu Mo noted most clan members were at the Great Saint Realm, with many at the Holy Realm, while weaker creatures were scarce. Ancestral realm entities were even rarer.

Upon entering the city, ancestral-realm One-eyed Clan creatures became more common, each parading ostentatiously. Surrounded by escorts, they traveled in chariots as they strutted about the streets.

Along their path, Great Saint and Holy Realm clan members scrambled to avoid them. Those who failed to move aside promptly were either berated or beaten brutally.

The entire city was suffused with an atmosphere of violence and ruthlessness, devoid of any warmth.

Chu Mo continued walking until he saw a contingent of ancestral-realm One-eyed Clan members approaching. They weren't flying through the air but trampling through the streets.

Among them was a female One-eyed Clan member—with only the cultivation level of the Holy Realm—leading a child of the same clan. The child's aura was exceedingly weak—merely at the true immortal level.

In Chu Mo's era within the Yanhuang domain, a true immortal wasn't considered weak; even today, such an entity could not be deemed insignificant. By relative standards, beings of this level were rare. But in this place, a true immortal was pathetically feeble.

To Chu Mo's eyes, the female One-eyed Clan member was hideous. However, to her own kind, she might exude a unique charm. Thus, when an ancestral-realm One-eyed Clan strongman saw her, his single eye lit up with excitement. Gesturing with his massive hand, his underlings rushed forward to seize the female.

The female One-eyed Clan member screamed shrilly, "No…"
