Chapter 17: Seventeen: Bookstore
Emily's POV
"If that's the case, why? Isn't that okay? Would it be nice if people thought we were a happy family?" After making such a statement Christ glared at me.
I replied to Christ's words with a sentence like that because I was very annoyed by what he said. How could I possibly choose clothes with the same color as him? Doesn't he know that I really disliked him from the first time we met, long before my daughter knew him? And strangely enough, my daughter giggled in response to this man's words. Just watch, I'll make him regret his accusations against me.
"Hmm... Okay, let's go now." Christ said, then he started walking.
Bie was still giggling at our antics. Just let him be because he has accused me of things that are not true, so I will do something that will make him leave us. It would be even better if he already has a girlfriend, then I will make them fight. Suddenly an evil idea just popped into my head. My daughter was still smiling to herself when we were next to Christ's car. I can't possibly sit in front wearing clothes like this, it would be nice if he could look at the smooth whiteness of my thighs. If I sit down, the bottom of this dress will definitely lift up a bit because the bottom style is like a pencil skirt. So I reached out my hand to the back door of this car.
"You don't mean to sit in the back, do you, Emily?" Christ said as he grabbed my wrist.
"Of course, this time it's Bie's turn to sit in the front." I said, still with Christ's hand on my wrist and my hand still hanging towards the back door.
"Isn't a truly happy family where the woman accompanies the man while the child sits in the back seat?" Christ's question to me immediately embarrassed me.
I could feel my cheeks starting to heat up. It seems like this guy is really inviting me to war. For now I give in to him, but you'll see what my response is later. I started to pull my hand away from his. Then I started walking, stamping my feet towards the front of the car. I went around the front of the car and headed to the side of this car. I opened the front door of the car, then I closed the car door very hard. Just let him get angry, if possible, even his car will be damaged. I put my bag and paper bag on my lap. This way I can cover my thighs.
"You're a woman but you seem to have the strength of a man." He teased me after he sat down while wearing the safety belt.
I turned to him with an irritated look. But he replied with a glance of his eyes that seemed to point towards my chair. I looked in the direction he was pointing. But I didn't find anything. There's no way he's telling me to start the car engine. How would I know which button to press? A few days ago when I got in this car he didn't tell me to do that.
"You don't mean for me to put that seat belt on you, do you?" His words left me stunned.
And once again he came to sarcasm with me. I immediately started looking for the safety belt.
"No, I can do it myself." I refused him.
Where I remember that passengers also have to use it. I thought only drivers had to wear seat belts. Because yesterday when he took me and my daughter home, he didn't have a problem with it. Besides, it's been a long time since I sat in the front seat of a car. The last time I sat in the front seat with my late husband. And it was my late husband who used to put my seat belt on me. Even though we are not from a wealthy background, our life used to be very comfortable. At least we were able to buy a car, even though it was a used car, but we were very grateful for that.
"So where are we planning to go?" I asked my daughter.
"We're going to the bookstore. Didn't we fail to go there a few days ago? If I'm not mistaken, the cause was because someone accidentally spilled their drink on me." Christ answered my question and deliberately stressed the word 'accidentally' in his sentence to sarcasm me.
Does this man really have a hobby of making sarcasm? If there was a satire contest I'm sure he would get a trophy. My daughter has been silent all this time. I started to look towards the back seat. It turned out my daughter was asleep. She must have missed her nap earlier. Coupled with the air conditioning from the car, it must have made him sleepy.
"Bie, wa..." Before I finished speaking, Christ cut me off.
"Just let her sleep. Besides, we haven't reached our destination yet. It still takes quite a long time because we have to pass two places with traffic lights." Christ said while looking back.
It turned out that the car that Christ was driving stopped in the middle of the road because the traffic light was red. Christ seems to love Bie sincerely.
Ah, what am I thinking? Who would have the heart to wake her up if she was already asleep? Because my daughter's face looks more beautiful when she sleeps. Earlier I just felt bad for Christ because I felt awkward towards him. I'm just afraid that Bie will become the subject of his sarcasm. After arriving, I got out of the car, then woke Bie up through the back door that I opened. Bie rubbed her eyes to get rid of the drowsiness. As for Christ, I don't know where he is. Maybe he had already entered the bookstore first.
"Mom, Bie wants to go there, okay?" My daughter said while pulling my hand when we entered the bookstore.
"Yes baby." I answered her while turning in the direction she was pointing.
I watched Bie walk towards the bookshelf located in the middle of the room. It seems like there's a place that provides various kinds of comics. I better go there.
"So you like comic books too. You look like a kid." Christ blocked my way.
"None of your business. Move aside, I want to pass." I said curtly.
"Let Bie choose her books. Don't bother her." Christ said while folding his arms in front of his chest.
That's true, Bie would definitely be disturbed if I was next to her. Bie would also be afraid to choose a book she liked because of the price, if I was always by her side. Let Bie choose several books that she likes today.
"Who said I was going there?" I evaded the annoying man in front of me.
"Then where are you going?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm going there." I pointed in any direction.
I started walking past him. I stepped towards the bookshelf I had pointed to earlier. After arriving, I started looking at the books neatly arranged on these shelves.
'HOW TO DEAL WITH MOODS DURING PREGNANCY' is the title of the book I'm holding.
I flipped through the pages. Then I saw the price. Since I wasn't interested in this book, I put it back and started choosing another one. There is a picture of a brain on the cover of the book that caught my attention. It looks like a book about health.
I started reading the title of the book that caught my attention earlier, 'SHARPENING THE BRAIN OF PREGNANT WOMEN FOR FETAL BRAIN DEVELOPMENT'.
I looked at the back cover of the book I was holding. I saw the nominal figure written in the bottom corner of this book. This is a habit of mine, even if I have no intention of buying, I always want to know the prices of these items. After seeing the price, I put the book back down. A book with a variety of vegetable covers became my next choice. Maybe I can find new cooking recipes through that book. I have a hard time reaching it. The book is on top. So I started to stand on tiptoe to reach it.
"Do you want to take this book?"
Someone came from behind me, then easily took it and gave it to me.
"Yes, thank you." I said to the woman who was taller than me.
"You're welcome." The woman said then took the book that was next to the book I saw earlier.
I started looking at cookbooks. Printed on the cover of this book is 'HEALTHY FOOD FOR MOTHER & FETUS'.
What's going on? Why are all the books here about pregnancy? I'm looking for information on this bookshelf. But what I found was Christ already holding several books in his hands. He was standing right next to me.
"Do you want to buy that one too?" Christ asked me.
