chapter 26
“Don’t forget, we need to take the shortcut next turn.”
While listening to DrinkWaterPlz’s explanation, I kept firing off skills at the swarming monsters.
Even though I was in the Discord voice chat, this was my first run of the dungeon, and I was basically being carried. No point in talking and risking distracting the shot-caller.
[Party] DoraHeeImnida: Yepㅎㅎ
Maybe she was thinking the same, because DoraHee only used her mic during introductions earlier. Since then, she answered strictly via chat.
Yoo Chae wasn’t saying much either, so the only voices coming through were DrinkWaterPlz, Haerun, ParkSeungjin99, and MeLostInHunt.
“Wait, but Sleepy, isn’t that… not your usual staff?”
ParkSeungjin99, who’d been watching my skill damage closely, asked with a curious tone.
“Yeah, that one looks way cheaper or something…”
“Huh? True.”
MeLost chimed in agreement. Understandable, considering they didn’t know my staff got jacked.
‘Looks like most of the guild knows Yoo Chae gave me that Solice staff with Luck embedded, huh.’
Everyone knew except me, the one holding the damn staff? Whatever, just let me finish this raid first.
[Party] ImSoSleepy: Didn’t like the guy who gifted the staff
[Party] ImSoSleepy: So I’m using something else
[Party] Yoo Chae: ㅜㅡㅜ??
Couldn’t be bothered to come up with a better excuse, so I threw that out, and like clockwork, Yoo Chae butted in.
[Party] Yoo Chae: If you don’t like me
[Party] Yoo Chae: Should I buy you a new one?
[Party] DoraHeeImnida: Isn’t the real problem
[Party] DoraHeeImnida: Not the staff, but the guild master?ㅎㅎ
[Party] Yoo Chae: ?
“Pfft—”
DrinkWaterPlz burst out laughing at DoraHee’s verbal uppercut. I pressed my hand to my mouth, barely holding back a chuckle.
[Party] ParkSeungjin99: ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
[Party] ParkSeungjin99: Guild Master’s probably cryingㅠ
[Party] ParkSeungjin99: Go easy on himㅋㅋ~
[Party] Haerun: I turned off my mic I’m laughing like crazyㅅㅂㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
[Party] Yoo Chae: Why
[Party] Yoo Chae: Is your mouth running like that..ㄷㄷ
[Party] DoraHeeImnida: Just saying
[Party] DoraHeeImnida: That’s how it looks to me
[Party] DoraHeeImnida: Sowwyㅎㅎ
[Party] ImSoSleepy: ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
[Party] Yoo Chae: Hyung...
[Party] Yoo Chae: She’s saying weird stuff about me;ㅡ;
When I didn’t back him up, Yoo Chae started whining like a kicked puppy.
Who told him to act like that? He brought this on himself.
“Alright, stop messing around and focus. Mid-boss is spawning now.”
Right as DrinkWaterPlz finished, the ground rumbled with a heavy thud. Master Lycan, the mid-boss, appeared.
A deep, growling voice echoed as the beast let out a feral snarl.
Master Lycan, in his werewolf form, didn’t have a huge health pool, but his defense was insane, and he had a charge skill, making him a nightmare for ranged DPS.
“Let’s go in.”
Standing directly in front of Master Lycan, DrinkWaterPlz pulled out a glowing white shield, radiant light pouring over them. It was the Pure White Shield, signature weapon of the Holy Knight class—one of the hardest tank classes to play.
“Sleepy, this one’s more about melee DPS and tanks. You can stick with the buffer and support.”
Following MeLost’s advice, I moved near DoraHee, our buffer, and Haerun, the healer, casting magic from their side.
Master Lycan’s opening line for Phase 1. His body swelled up, shifting down onto all fours like an actual wolf. That posture meant he was about to charge.
“Don’t stand in his path.”
Good call by DrinkWaterPlz.
Most of Master Lycan’s Phase 1 was chain charges, but unlike the Keyrunt dungeon boss, aggro could be drawn through attacks by tanks and melee DPS.
But the charge always followed a fixed path toward the aggro target, so if you stood behind the tank or melee, you were asking to get flattened. Ranged DPS and support had to stay hyper-aware of positioning.
Yoo Chae, our mid-range DPS, pulled out his weapon, a sharp clink of chains rattling as golden links flared in the air.
Master Lycan shrieked as the chain smashed into him. With Yoo Chae pulling first aggro, the beast charged at him, but Yoo Chae dodged smoothly, landing counterattacks as he danced around.
‘His DPS is insane.’
While my skills were barely scraping 5k damage, Yoo Chae’s chain hits were pumping out 20k baseline, crits pushing past 30k.
Considering Master Lycan’s defense, breaking 20k damage was ridiculous… Freak’s built different, alright.
“I’ll take aggro next.”
MeLost slipped between Yoo Chae and the boss right on cue. Classic Infighter style—those gold gauntlets on his fists practically gleamed.
If one person held aggro for more than 3 turns, the boss’s charge speed spiked, so swapping was optimal.
MeLost, now with aggro, pummeled Master Lycan with lightning-fast punches, his heavy strikes belying his nimble footwork—typical Infighter traits.
‘Huh? That direction’s dangerous.’
Adjusting my attacks around aggro shifts, I noticed DoraHee moving toward a bad spot.
“Rahee, come over here.”
It was too urgent to type, so I used my mic. Calling her ‘DoraHee’ aloud felt awkward, so like DrinkWaterPlz, I shortened it to ‘Rahee.’
[Party] DoraHeeImnida: Ah, okay okay
She pivoted fast, hurrying to my side. Moments later, Master Lycan charged through where she’d just been, snarling.
Knew it.
[Party] DoraHeeImnida: Thanksㅎㅎ
[Party] Haerun: Sleepy’s got good instinctsㅅㅅ
That could’ve been bad—buffers were precious. Thankfully, DoraHee wasn’t stubborn or slow to react, so she made it. Guess DrinkWaterPlz really did recruit a decent newbie.
Relieved, I dodged the boss’s charges with DoraHee trailing me, when suddenly, Yoo Chae’s quiet voice called out.
“H-hyung.”
“Mm?”
I blinked, caught off guard by the pitiful tone.
“What.”
“It’s nothing…”
He deflated like a dying houseplant, voice withering away. What the hell now?
‘Seriously, can’t figure this guy out.’
Clicking my tongue, I dodged another incoming charge. He said it was nothing—no point prying. I’ll just focus on my role.
****
[Whisper] Haerun: Am I the only one
[Whisper] Haerun: Super creeped out rn?
[Whisper] Haerun: ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Seeing that, DrinkWaterPlz slid her mic aside with a quiet sigh.
Despite her worries, bringing the newbies ImSoSleepy and DoraHee into this raid dungeon had gone smoothly.
But of course, once ImSoSleepy started looking after DoraHee, things got weird.
[Party] DoraHeeImnida: Sleepy
[Party] DoraHeeImnida: You’re seriously cracked
[Party] DoraHeeImnida: bb
[Party] ImSoSleepy: ㅋㅋㅋ
[Party] ImSoSleepy: thx thx
They seemed way more comfortable after earlier, chatting casually.
Meanwhile, Yoo Chae was savagely whipping chains into Master Lycan nonstop.
[Whisper] DrinkWaterPlz: Even I’m
[Whisper] DrinkWaterPlz: Getting nervous..ㅎ
[Whisper] Haerun: For real
[Whisper] Haerun: Sleepy’s great and all
[Whisper] Haerun: But he’s way too soft with girls
[Whisper] Haerun: Like he was with CottonCandyFox
[Whisper] Haerun: What if he does that again?;;
[Whisper] DrinkWaterPlz: Ugh no way
If that happened, watching the fallout would suck, and Yoo Chae losing it again? Disaster.
Even now, just from them talking, Yoo Chae was beating the boss like it owed him money. Imagine how bad it’d get… Exhausting thought.
Bruised and battered, ◆ Nоvеlіgһt ◆ (Only on Nоvеlіgһt) Master Lycan roared his Phase 2 line, summoning dozens of wolves. But before anyone else moved, Yoo Chae’s chains wiped them all out.
‘This psycho even used boosts?’
His damage spiked—had to be attack and speed buff potions. Who burns those on a Seltern Normal mid-boss?
‘Didn’t know Sleepy being friendly with another player would set him off this bad…’
Even ParkSeungjin99 and MeLost, barely getting attacks in, seemed to notice, whispering DrinkWaterPlz.
[Whisper] ParkSeungjin99: What’s going on??
[Whisper] ParkSeungjin99: Why’s the guild master like this?
[Whisper] MeLostInHunt: Is this one of those “carry parties”?
As always, cleanup duty fell on her. With the expression of a deadpan fox, DrinkWaterPlz typed calmly.
[Whisper] DrinkWaterPlz: Nah, same old psycho nonsense
[Whisper] DrinkWaterPlz: Just stay out of it, probs safer
[Whisper] ParkSeungjin99: ㅋㅋ
[Whisper] ParkSeungjin99: Works for me~
[Whisper] MeLostInHunt: Ah gotcha
Despite the vague answer, the guildmates caught on and stepped back. It was Normal difficulty and just a mid-boss anyway.
Yoo Chae, practically frothing at the mouth, finally finished Master Lycan off. Meanwhile, ImSoSleepy, casually tossing in support spells, commented in awe.
[Party] ImSoSleepy: Wow
[Party] ImSoSleepy: You’re seriously strong
[Party] Yoo Chae: Really?
[Party] Yoo Chae: ㅎㅎㅎㅎ
‘Oh lord…’
Watching Yoo Chae’s mood swing back to sunshine after one compliment, DrinkWaterPlz shook her head.
‘Completely hopeless.’
They could bicker or flirt all they wanted—just please, don’t drag me into it. She silently prayed.
