Chapter 93: Danger and Destiny
The Kurosaki household was alive with discussion as Harry, Isshin, Masaki, Kisuke, Yoruichi, and Tessai sat around the living room table. The earlier encounter with Hollows had sparked a serious debate: should Ichigo Kurosaki be trained?
"This situation is more dangerous than it seems," Kisuke Urahara said, adjusting his green-striped hat. "Ichigo isn't just an ordinary human. He's a hybrid—a mix of Hollow, Shinigami, Quincy, and Fullbringer. That combination alone makes him an anomaly, but it also places a target squarely on his back."
Isshin crossed his arms, his face a mixture of concern and pride. "That kid's potential is sky-high, no doubt about it. But training him means throwing him into a world he might not be ready for."
Harry leaned forward, intrigued. "Hybrid? Quincy? Fullbringer? You're going to have to slow down and explain. I've never encountered these terms before."
Yoruichi, still in her cat form, flicked her tail and spoke up. "Let me handle this part. Quincies are humans with the ability to destroy Hollows using reishi, the spiritual particles in the air. They're a bit... zealous in their methods, which tends to conflict with the Shinigami, who purify Hollows instead of erasing them. Fullbringers, on the other hand, are humans who can manipulate the 'soul' of objects, a power often derived from Hollow contamination. As for Shinigami, well, you've probably pieced together that they're soul reapers, guardians of the afterlife."
Harry nodded, absorbing the information. "And a Hollow is essentially a corrupted soul, yes? So, Ichigo carries traces of all these powers?"
"Exactly," Yoruichi replied. "But this also makes him an outlier—a wildcard."
Kisuke picked up where she left off, his tone growing more serious. "Being a hybrid of so many spiritual lineages places Ichigo in rare company. He's potentially a candidate for the role of Soul King."
Harry frowned, his emerald eyes narrowing. "Soul King? That's the second time you've mentioned that. Care to explain?"
Kisuke sat back, his gaze thoughtful. "The Soul King is essentially the linchpin of reality. It's said that without the Soul King's presence, the balance of the worlds would collapse. However, the specifics of how one becomes a candidate are... murky. Let's just say Ichigo's unique blend of powers puts him in that category."
Harry let out a low whistle. "Interesting. And dangerous. If this role is as important as you say, others might see him as a threat—or a prize."
"Precisely," Kisuke said. "That's why I think he needs training. The sooner he's prepared, the better."
Harry leaned back, a pensive look crossing his face. "You know, this actually sounds fascinating. If this Soul King Candidate thing is achievable, I'd like to experiment with it myself. I've always been curious about expanding my capabilities, and runes might help bridge the gap between my magic and your spiritual arts."
Kisuke's eyes lit up with excitement. "Oh, the possibilities! I'd be more than happy to assist. A fusion of Death's essence and spiritual power could yield incredible results."
Yoruichi shot Kisuke a warning glance. "Don't get ahead of yourself, Kisuke. You're talking about tinkering with the balance of existence."
Harry chuckled. "Well, balance is kind of my thing. I am Death, after all."
The room went silent, and all eyes turned to Harry.
"You're... what?" Isshin asked, his voice tinged with disbelief.
"Death. The personification of it. A primordial deity, if you want to get technical," Harry replied nonchalantly, waving a hand. "Long story short, I'm here to explore, tinker, and maybe help out if needed. Don't worry, I'm not here to start any existential crises."
Masaki burst into laughter. "Well, that explains a lot. No wonder you're so comfortable with all of this."
Harry gave her a wink. "Perks of the job."
The Crossroad Decision
As the conversation wound down, Harry noticed the time. He stood, giving Isshin a conspiratorial wink and taking Masaki's hand. "We'll fetch the kids. You lot keep brainstorming."
Hand in hand, Harry and Masaki left the house, heading toward the crossroad where the paths to Ichigo's school and the kindergarten split. Along the way, they discussed how to approach Ichigo about the training.
"I think we should ease him into it," Masaki suggested. "Ichigo's always been headstrong, but this is a lot to take in."
Harry nodded. "Agreed. I'll start by addressing the things he's already noticed—like his ability to see ghosts. That'll help him connect the dots without overwhelming him."
When they reached the crossroad, Ichigo was waiting, his school bag slung over one shoulder.
"Hey, Ichigo," Harry greeted with a smile. "How was school?"
"Same as always," Ichigo replied. "Why are you here?"
"We need to talk," Harry said, his tone serious but warm. "It's about your... abilities."
Ichigo frowned. "Abilities? What are you talking about?"
"You've seen ghosts, haven't you?" Harry asked.
Ichigo hesitated, then nodded. "Yeah. Ever since I was a kid. So what?"
"That's just the surface," Harry said. "There's a bigger picture here, something you need to start thinking about. The world isn't as simple as it seems, and you're a part of something much larger."
Ichigo stared at him, his brow furrowed. "Larger? Like what?"
"That's up to you to discover," Harry said cryptically. "But if you're willing, we can help you prepare for what's out there. No pressure, though. The choice is yours."
Ichigo was silent for a moment, then shrugged. "I'll think about it."
"That's all I ask," Harry said with a smile.
Masaki gave Ichigo a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "No matter what, we're here for you."
As they walked back to the house, Harry felt a flicker of satisfaction. The seeds had been planted, and he had a feeling Ichigo's journey was only just beginning.
