Chapter 66: Chapter 66: The Whole Story
"Carey, Carey Trollope, the boy in the common room that day..." Suddenly, a figure flashed in Ian's mind. After remembering who the other person was, he chose to turn back.
Although the kid had some troubles, Ian really couldn't stand the bullying. And judging from the situation today, not only did Penelope fail to handle the matter, but it also involved senior students from other houses.
Among these three Slytherins, one was obviously a senior student. Judging from his height and build, he was at least a third-year student.
"Mr. Trollope, lunchtime is almost over. Aren't you going to the Great Hall?"
Ian was standing on the stairs at this moment, his eyes slightly cold, looking down at the people in front of him, and spoke with a somewhat indifferent expression.
"Thanks for the heads up, Mr. Titus. I've already had lunch."
Kerry had his back to Ian the whole time, but after hearing what he said, he turned around and replied with a subtle expression.
"Okay." Just one word, and Ian left without looking back.
"Human nature... ha, the most complicated and changeable thing." Ian laughed at himself in his heart.
The reason why he turned and left was that Ian saw a change in the other's eyes. If Kerry might have been a simple boy who was bullied at the beginning, now he had completely turned into an accomplice of the bully.
Everything can be deceiving, but the eyes cannot. Everything can be wrong, but a wizard's innate intuition cannot be wrong.
This was also the reason why Old Tom was so tolerant of Ian. Some powerful or experienced wizards could truly sense a person's nature.
The boy had changed, so Ian would not do any more useless work. Maybe Ian could pull him back with some effort. But... that was the responsibility of the boy's guardian and the school professors, and had nothing to do with him.
Besides, Ian felt that he had done his best, including introducing Penelope before and returning to see if the other party needed help. They were not related in any way, so he felt that being able to do this was enough.
…
He returned to the common room with ease. Faced with Ravenclaw's unique way of opening the door by asking questions, Ian always used the Zen wit from his previous life to easily resolve the situation.
For example, the door knocker asked, "What do you think wisdom is?" Ian answered, "Wisdom is the heart." "Where is the heart?" "The heart is in the heart."
"Which came first, the fire or the phoenix?"
"Neither the phoenix nor the fire came first, but I came first. If I didn't exist, neither the phoenix nor the fire would exist."
With each question and answer, Ian noticed that the bronze door knocker was being silent for longer and longer periods of time. He was afraid that one day it would utter a few Zen verses and then disappear in a wisp of smoke.
Then Ian would become the eternal sinner of Ravenclaw...
Back to the point, when Ian returned to the common room, he unexpectedly found Penelope sitting on the sofa. She seemed to be waiting for Ian and took the initiative to greet him when she saw him.
"Hi, Ian, I looked for you early in the morning, but your roommates said they didn't see you when they got up. Finally, Percy told me that you were in the Gryffindor common room at 8:30 in the morning. What's going on? Don't we have any outstanding girls in Ravenclaw?"
Penelope said jokingly, and as she spoke, she patted Ian lightly on the arm, as if she was a little girl acting coquettishly.
But Ian really didn't like her looks. Maybe it would be a different story if it was Miss Granger. Ian cleverly moved aside to create some distance and said speechlessly, "I don't know when I became so popular that someone would come to see me early on Sunday morning."
"Haha, someone has always been popular, but he just chooses not to see it."
There seemed to be some hidden meaning in these words, so Ian quickly stopped talking. God knows what else this Ravenclaw prefect would say if he continued.
"By the way, what do you want to talk to me about?" Ian asked, changing the subject.
As if seeing that Ian was not going to take the bait at all, a trace of loneliness and loss flashed in Penelope's eyes.
In just a moment, she returned to normal. She said seriously, "Carey Trollope, you haven't forgotten the first-year student in the common room that day."
"Yes, I know. I just saw him hanging out with some Slytherins."
Hearing that Ian still remembered this incident, Penelope said helplessly: "His situation is more complicated. The matter is not troublesome, but the source of the matter involves two pure-blood families of the Sacred Twenty-Eight, the Yaxley family and the Shacklebolt family, and this little boy can only be said to have bad luck..."
A few minutes later, Ian finally figured out what had happened. It was very dramatic but also very realistic. It was nothing more than a poor Ravenclaw boy seeing a pretty Slytherin girl, the Yaxley girl. They met on the train.
Then Carey was bewitched by her and indoctrinated with a lot of pure-blood ideology. Then he returned to Ravenclaw and explained to other classmates those "sacred" teachings that even he did not fully understand.
Unfortunately for his roommate, Eisen Shacklebolt, his family was one of the few pure-blood families that were persecuted and rose up in resistance during that chaotic era. When Carey made those remarks, it deeply irritated Eisen, so much so that he later kicked him out of the dormitory.
Including the two sixth-year Ravenclaw prefects, their families were also persecuted by the pure-blood ideology, so after hearing about these things, they treated Carey differently. Although they didn't bully him openly, they didn't expect to be too nice to him either.
"I didn't expect that children nowadays are so foolish. He doesn't even think before he speaks. You know, he's from a Muggle-born family." Penelope said, and there seemed to be some anger in her tone.
Then Penelope spread her hands and said helplessly, "So I said it was simple, but there are many things involved behind it. I can only promise that Eisen will not kick Carey out of the dormitory in the future, and then I will tell Professor Flitwick about it. That's all I can do."
"Thank you, Penelope. You did everything a prefect could do. He needs to be responsible for his words and actions. Being young is not an excuse, and the other person is the same age as him, so he can only be called naive. Since Professor Flitwick knows about this, let's just leave it alone."
Ian understood the prefect's difficulties. After all, Penelope was also a Muggle-born witch, so he immediately reassured her.
"Yes, this is also the reason why I came to see you today. I also want to tell you not to get involved in this matter." Penelope said lightly.
Ian nodded and smiled. "Hahaha, no matter what, I still owe you a favor. If you need my help in the future, just tell me directly. Don't be polite. After all, I didn't know that the thing I found for you would turn out like this."
She didn't hesitate and said cheerfully, "Okay, our future Potions Master, don't ignore me when I ask for your help in the future."
Ian sighed internally. "There are really not many fools who can become prefects..."
Nonetheless, he respected her methods and her bottom line.
"Of course, this is my promise—Ian Titus's promise."
Looking at Penelope, whose smile was almost overflowing, Ian also smiled happily.
"Okay, now it's time for my lunch break." Ian said, yawning pretentiously.
