Harry Potter : Reincarnated to Rewrite Hogwarts History

Chapter 12: Detention

A nearly invisible beam shot from his wand, hitting Draco and freezing him stiff. His face stayed twisted in a snarl, but a gray, stone-like sheen spread over his body.

This was Aldric's petrification curse, infused with his emotions, a skill he'd been training for six months. The emotional charge made the spell much stronger than usual, and the glowing effect was something new; previous versions hadn't shown it. This was proof of Aldric's growing mastery.

Gasps erupted from the crowd at Draco's sudden petrification. "You'll be expelled! No magic is allowed in the Great Hall! We have to tell the professors!"

Hermione cried, tears starting to well up. She didn't fully understand just how grave the word Mudblood really was.

Aldric remained calm. At Hogwarts, bloodline discrimination was frowned upon, but he was more interested in how casting spells with strong emotions seemed to make them more powerful. It confirmed his theory that magical energy was like a blend of physical and mental force, when emotions ran high, spells grew stronger. Besides, now he had someone influential on his side.

Sure enough, it wasn't long before Professor Flitwick hurried into the hall, his short legs moving quickly. "What is going on here?" he squeaked, looking from Draco, still pale and stiff, to Aldric, who lowered his wand.

Hermione sniffled and wiped her face. Ron started to speak, but McGonagall swept in behind Flitwick, her expression severe. "Explain yourselves at once," she demanded.

Draco tried to bluster, but Aldric spoke first, his voice steady. "Malfoy called Hermione a Mudblood."

McGonagall's lips thinned to a white line. Flitwick looked shocked, his eyes flicking to Hermione with concern.

"That word is unacceptable," McGonagall said sharply. "But using a curse on a classmate is equally serious."

Snape arrived, arms folded, his face unreadable. He did not speak.

"Both of you will serve detention," McGonagall continued briskly. "And twenty points will be taken from Gryffindor and Slytherin."

Flitwick hesitated. "Professor, if I may, Malfoy's language was deeply offensive."

At the sound of that word, McGonagall's face grew stern. "Slytherin loses 100 points. Draco Malfoy will serve fifteen days' detention, personally supervised by me," she said, glancing at Draco's grim expression and pressing her lips tightly. "Aldric Thistlewaite will have one day's detention under Professor Flitwick's supervision."

The detentions were to be served each evening from after dinner until midnight. This was a harsh punishment, especially for Draco. Not only did he face two weeks of confinement, but his reckless behavior also cost Slytherin valuable points.

In recent years, Slytherin had dominated the House Cup, but Draco's actions this year seriously threatened their winning streak. Professor Snape seemed unfazed by the points deduction, but Aldric wasn't surprised.

As Dumbledore's trusted ally, Snape surely knew the House Cup's outcome had already been decided in favor of Gryffindor this year. Aldric was actually quite pleased with how things turned out.

A single day in detention, and in Flitwick's office at that, felt more like a prize. He looked forward to spending the evening asking the Charms professor all kinds of questions, which made him smile.

As the prefects guided the crowd away from the dining hall, the students who had gathered to watch the drama quietly dispersed. Aldric and Draco were each escorted back to their respective house heads, but their attitudes couldn't have been more different.

Draco followed Snape with a scowl that suggested he'd just swallowed something bitter, while Aldric walked confidently beside Flitwick, soaking in the quiet applause from many onlookers, mostly Muggle-born and half-blood students who had long resented the pureblood elite.

"I'm sorry, Aldric," Flitwick said apologetically. "I was supposed to keep my promise to you."

"That's alright, Professor. I can handle myself. My Petrification Curse isn't something to take lightly," Aldric replied, brandishing his wand with a grin.

Flitwick chuckled. "Absolutely. Your curse is the best I've seen among first years. But when it comes to people like him," he nodded toward Draco, "I personally prefer the Incendio spell.

Oh, wait, you don't know Incendio yet? No worries. I'll teach you tonight."

Aldric didn't look overly excited by the offer. He'd already read about Incendio in the Ravenclaw library, it wasn't a particularly difficult spell, and its power was limited; a simple Aqua Eructo could easily put it out. Still, he managed a pleased expression, not wanting to disappoint the professor.

The two of them walked and chatted all the way back to the Ravenclaw common room. By then, word had already spread through their classmates about Aldric's Petrificus Totalus spell that had knocked Malfoy out in the dining hall.

A group of students gathered around eagerly, asking for all the details. After patiently explaining what had happened, Flitwick and Aldric finally saw the crowd disperse and return to their seats to continue reading.

Flitwick headed back to his office. Just then, a tall, sturdy black student approached, his face glowing with excitement. "You were amazing! I also hated those pureblood! What a stupid group discriminating based on blood."

Aldric recognized him as Franklin Clinton, a Muggle-born and the tallest guy in their year.

Aldric had always wondered why Franklin was sorted into Ravenclaw; with his personality, Gryffindor seemed like a better fit. "Thanks, Franklin. I just did what I had to. Those pureblood jerks deserve to be put in their place."

Franklin wasn't surprised Aldric remembered his name, his size made him hard to forget. "Definitely! You're my kind of friend. Next time something like this goes down, count me in. I'll make sure they get beaten black and blue!"

Aldric smiled. "Of course. Us so-called mudbloods have to stick together to fight the blood discriminators." He found Franklin's very American-sounding name amusing but thought it might be useful to build a strong alliance.

"You know, I knew from the moment I saw you that we'd get along. We're friends now, if you ever need anything, just come to me. I'll do everything I can to help." Franklin was thrilled. The past few days had been rough for him since others kept their distance because of his size.

Aldric was the first to reach out. After some more friendly chatting, Aldric finally managed to gently send Franklin on his way, though he stayed excited and reluctant to leave.

Once free of Franklin, Aldric decided to find something to eat. He'd had to leave his meal halfway through when the fight with Draco broke out, and now the dining hall was closed. Looks like he'd have to bother the house-elves in the kitchen.

As he stepped out of the Ravenclaw common room, he spotted the trio waiting by the door. Harry and Ron rushed over as soon as he appeared.

"You were amazing! Did you see Draco's face? That last look, like he'd just eaten Earwax-flavored Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans!" Harry and Ron jabbered excitedly.

"Serves him right!" Ron chimed in.
