Chapter 43: Commercial alliance
Commercial alliance
"I'm sorry. I didn't think Professor Higberta was a troll-brained idiot," said Selene with a slightly annoyed expression. "After all, she was Edward's professor when he was young, so I assumed she'd be neutral. But I guess I was wrong," she added with a sigh.
Meanwhile, Susan was gently stroking her daughter's head, who wasn't feeling sad at all. She had friends who stood up for her when she needed them… and an incredible professor who had shown power that bordered on legendary.
She wanted to be like Wandasomeone no one dared to insult.
"Edward? Didn't you attend the same class?" Susan asked with curiosity.
"Me? Of course not. I already told you I was a discarded daughter. Do you think they'd spend anything on me? I wasn't much different from Daphne," Selene replied with a calm smile as she watched her daughter performing an experiment nearby, holding a candle in front of Red's mouth to see if she'd spit fire. "That's why I wanted her to have what I never could. Because as an adult, I had to learn to earn respect on my ownnot just from the Greengrass family, but from myself as well," she explained serenely.
"I see," said Susan, nodding softly. "So... you don't have time to teach them manners yourself?"
That question made Selene pause, thoughtful for a moment.
"Mm. Aside from Wizengamot sessions and managing the family's finances… I actually don't have that much to do. Maybe two or three days a week. If the children are sent home, I can teach them," she said with a relaxed smile.
"Are you sure? Wouldn't that be too much trouble?" Wanda asked gently, her voice calm but firm.
"No. Honestly, the reason I didn't do it from the start was because I felt something was missing… but now, I think I could teach them quite a lot. After all, I'm the wife of one of the most desired men in high society. You have no idea how many silly women I had to fight off who threw themselves at him like hyenas," said Selene with a fierce look.
Susan gave her a thumbs-up, amused, while Wanda smiled faintly, her calm gaze sharp, as if reading everything without needing a single word.
As they chatted casually, someone knocked softly on the door. Harry, who was watching Daphne with her experiment, got up calmly and went to answer.
"Hi, Harry. Is your mum home?" said Sirius with his usual charming smile.
Before he could say another word, Harry shut the door in his face without blinking.
"Who was it, darling?" Wanda asked from the living room.
"Mm. My godfather. Looks like he came to see you," Harry replied, with a slight tone of jealousy in his voice. It wasn't about his godfather... it was about his mother. To him, no one was good enough for her. Not even his half-evil godfather. If she was ever going to have a husband, he'd have to be a wizard capable of conquering the world. Because Harry was as protective of his mother… as she was of him. Or maybe more.
"Oh, right. He said he had some documents he needed me to sign," Wanda responded calmly, showing no emotion at all.
"Documents?" asked Harry, and reopened the door.
Sirius was still there, in the same position, with the same surprised face he'd been left with.
"You can come in," Harry said this time, calmly, before returning to Daphne and Red.
Sirius entered a bit puzzled and headed to the living room with a slightly nervous expression.
The first thing he asked upon seeing Wanda was:
"Is it possible I did something to upset Harry?"
Susan let out a chuckle. "He's the little man of the house. Of course he's going to protect his mum from dangerous men," she said teasingly. She'd met Sirius a couple of times, and Hermione had told her plenty about his wild youth.
"Well, well, Black, long time no see," said Selene with a curious smile, eyeing him carefully.
"Ugh. Not long enough, Rowle," Sirius replied with a slight grimace.
"I'm Greengrass now. You should remember that," Selene replied with a frown. "Thanks to that, you got a fair trial," she added sharply.
"Yeah, yeah, and I'm grateful to Edward for that," Sirius said, forcing a smile.
There wasn't open hatred between them, but there was definitely some rivalry.
"You two know each other?" Susan asked, intrigued.
"Both of us were rejected by our families. We crossed paths a few times as allies. Well… I can say that thanks to him, I met Edward. He was the one who threw me into the carriage where Edward was, just to buy time and escape," explained Selene.
"What can I say? Had to survive somehow," added Sirius with a grin. "And technically, you met your husband thanks to me. You're welcome," he finished sarcastically.
"Just get to the point and leave. We were in the middle of a conversation," Selene said, irritated.
Sirius grinned before pulling out some documents. They were the papers for a newly founded company. Potter and Black would share the ownership. Black would provide the initial capital; Potter, the potion recipes. There were also trade cooperation agreements and a couple more contracts.
Wanda read through them quickly. Her eyes scanned each line with impressive calm, as if she could detect any deception just by looking. And when she saw that everything was in order, she took the official Potter family seal and stamped it without hesitation.
Meanwhile, Selene became more intrigued upon hearing about the cooperation between the Potter and Black families.
"Hey... does the Potter family still have hidden recipes?" she asked, as if that were the only question that truly mattered.
"Yes. Harry and I recently found the ancestral Potter mansion," Wanda replied calmly.
Selene's eyes widened in genuine surprise. "Are you saying it wasn't just a legend?"
"Legend?" Susan asked, a bit lost.
"All pure-blood families know the Potters for two reasons," Selene explained firmly. "One, because one of the brothers from the Tale of the Deathly Hallows had a daughter who married a Potter heir. And the other, for their potions and medical recipes. It's said that ninety percent of the publicly available potions were gifted by their heirs. Obviously, many purist families buried that story… they didn't want to seem like the opposite of the Potters. But several sources claim that the recipes they released were actually the ones they didn't need. Because they had better ones. Three or four generations ago, the Potter manor vanished from Godric's Hollow. Many believe it was to protect their formulas after several theft attempts. When James's father, Fleamont Potter, sold his company along with its most profitable formula, people thought that was the last valuable thing they had. Because when James was alive, there was supposedly nothing left. Unlike his father, who was a great potioneer, and his mother, a famous healer."
"Hey… saying James had nothing…" said Sirius, irritated.
"Well, he had his parents' money. And a lot of arrogance," Selene replied calmly, which irritated Sirius even more, though he didn't respond. "It's strange that such an old family, with that kind of inheritance, would disappear from the market and leave only money behind," she added thoughtfully.
"To be honest, I didn't know much either. I visited the Potter manor when I was young, but I was never interested in pure-blood stories. And once I was accepted, I didn't bother to dig into it," Sirius admitted sincerely.
"Was Harry's father really that rich?" Susan asked, curious.
"Most likely, yes. There's a shampoo recipe used by the entire wizarding world. And for more than fifty years, it's had no real competition," said Selene with restrained excitement.
"Wow! Fifty years?" Susan repeated, impressed.
"Can I ask what recipes you're going to use? Because if they're on the same level as that shampoo, sales are going to skyrocket," Selene said with growing interest.
"Mr. Fleamont left me a list to choose from. I picked the ones I thought were the most commercially viable," Wanda replied calmly, recalling. "They're skincare products: facial moisturizers, wrinkle removers, hand soaps that alter body odor, whitening creams, shaving creams, essential oils for massages and relaxation. There's also a potion called the Beauty Potion, and another for purifying dark magic," she explained.
"That reminds me I need to give you the recipes," Wanda added before reaching into thin air. Her hand disappeared momentarily into an invisible dimension, and then she pulled out several old scrolls, handing them to Sirius without concern.
Selene looked at them with sparkling eyes. But her attention quickly shifted to something else.
"I want to know more about that spell you used… and I also want the Greengrass family to join the project," she said quickly, her gaze firm, directed at both Wanda and Sirius.
"Why should I? The Black family has enough money to support the company," Sirius replied defiantly.
"Yes, but the Greengrass family has contacts and distribution networks in international markets. You're barely staying afloat thanks to your cousin, and you know it," Selene countered sharply, without losing her composure.
Sirius frowned, ready to argue… but he couldn't deny she was right.
"Twenty percent of my share. Harry's part is non-negotiable," Sirius said firmly.
Selene, of course, knew the true value of such recipesand so many of them at once. It was true that it was worth it even under those terms. Without the recipes, the company couldn't exist. And she had a strong feeling Wanda had many more recipes to offer in the future.
"We'll match your capital investment and provide the contacts. I want thirty percent," Selene replied seriously.
"Twenty-five I can accept. Because I know your husband's level. Technically, we could do it without you; it would just take more time," Sirius said, arms crossed, with a stern expression.
Selene hesitated for a few seconds. She knew he was right. A single Potter recipe was enough to skyrocket sales. Even if they opened only one store, it would be full of customers within weeks. Expanding would take years… unless they had her network. The Greengrass family could cut that time down to months.
"Fine. I'll go talk to my husband," she finally said, standing up.
"Are you sure he's going to agree to something like this so easily?" Sirius asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Of course. Who do you think manages our family's finances? And only because Edward didn't want me working far from him. Even if we fail, do you really think my beloved husband would be mad at me?" she said with a triumphant and confident smile.
"Honestly… you owe me your life for shoving you into him," Sirius said with a lopsided smile.
Meanwhile, Susan just watched everything with mild interest. She wasn't too invested in business. She was a dentist, and together with her husband they earned a good living. Her daughter had a solid education, an incredible teacher who also happened to be extremely powerful… asking for more would mean getting into trouble she preferred not to understand.
