Harry Potter: From Young Wizard to White Devil

Chapter 28: Flying Lesson 2

Flying is probably the dream of all human beings.

Vaughn, who hadn't been particularly enthusiastic at first, let out a loud cheer the moment he truly soared into the sky on his broom.

The feeling of leaving everything behind on the ground, slicing through the wind, his long robe billowing behind him, made him forget all his worries.

After getting approval from Madam Hooch, Vaughn and Harry flew a few laps around the field.

By the time they landed again, Ron, Malfoy, and a few others had also successfully taken off.

Some little wizards were still grounded. Among them was Neville.

Madam Hooch kept repeating the proper posture and how to grip the broom, but Neville just couldn't get it right. The Remembrall hanging on his chest flashed like a stage spotlight.

Malfoy and his gang howled with laughter. Ron and Seamus were confronting them, and Harry hurried over.

Just then, Neville, who had barely floated into the air, forgot something again. His face went pale, and he lost control, plummeting downward.

Madam Hooch had just drawn her wand when two spells from the sky struck Neville.

"Impedimenta!"

"Leviosa!"

Neville froze five feet off the ground, limbs splayed. Tears and snot covered his face, but he hadn't hit the floor.

"Well done, Mr. Vaughn Weasley. Five points to Slytherin!" said Madam Hooch, exhaling in relief. She quickly ended the spell and lowered Neville to the ground. The poor boy was already unconscious with fright.

Worried about his condition, Madam Hooch muttered a few instructions before hurrying off to find Madam Pomfrey.

The moment she was gone, Malfoy grew even more reckless. He zipped around Harry on his broom, cackling.

"Potter, did you see Longbottom? Woo-hoo, Mummy, I'm scared! Oh—sorry, I forgot. Longbottom doesn't have parents!"

That did it.

Even Vaughn was stunned by how suicidal Malfoy's mouth could be. How could he say something that nasty without thinking?

Harry slammed straight into Malfoy, and Ron let out a cheer from below. The two of them had long looked forward to fighting Malfoy.

Now, soaring through the sky with no professors in sight, and with Crabbe and Goyle clinging to their brooms like frightened pigeons—

The timing was perfect.

Malfoy must have sensed the danger because he fled toward the castle, with Harry right behind.

"HARRY! HARRY!" Hermione screamed, glaring fiercely at Ron before turning pleading eyes to Vaughn. "Vaughn, please go get them back! If a professor sees them, both Gryffindor and Slytherin will lose tons of points!"

Vaughn had initially wanted to sit back and enjoy the show, but he nodded and gave chase.

By the time he caught up, Harry and Malfoy were circling the spires of Hogwarts, weaving through the stone towers like bees in a garden.

Even now, Malfoy refused to back down.

"Come on, Potter! Haven't you eaten? You and Longbottom must get along—you're both parentless freaks!"

Vaughn sighed. Honestly, Malfoy's venomous tongue made him want to hex the boy.

Harry let out a roar and shot forward, crashing into Malfoy and knocking him clean off his broom. He immediately regretted it.

He'd been furious, yes—but he hadn't meant to seriously injure him.

Harry swooped downward, caught up with Malfoy, and grabbed him mid-air.

The poor, overworked school broom gave a puff of black smoke under the extra weight and dropped like a stone.

As the two of them screamed, plummeting from ten feet in the air—

Vaughn, from behind, and a window high on the tower ahead, both shot spells at the same time:

"Impedimenta!"

"Arresto Momentum!"

The boys froze mid-fall, clinging to each other.

Vaughn quickly added a Leviosa, floating them gently through the tower window. Then he halted his broom and saluted the person standing behind the glass.

"Good afternoon, Professor McGonagall!"

Professor McGonagall's face had gone deathly pale. Her normally stern features were now terrifying.

"Not at all, Mr. Vaughn Weasley," she said, voice trembling. "If you hadn't come... if this hadn't happened near my office..."

She was shaking, her wand clutched tightly in her hand. "Those two idiotic boys would be spending the next month in the Hospital Wing!"

"In all my years, I've never seen anything this outrageous—two first-years dueling on flying brooms, completely ignoring class rules!"

"It nearly caused a disaster!"

She glared down at Harry and Malfoy, who were still frozen mid-cuddle from the lingering spell.

Turning to Vaughn, she said, "Mr. Weasley, although you also left class without permission, your actions deserve commendation. Twenty points to Slytherin."

"Now go back to class and inform Madam Hooch of what happened."

"Yes, Professor."

Vaughn flew back. Even from a distance, he could still hear Professor McGonagall's furious roar. It was the angriest he'd ever seen her.

This is even more dramatic than the original book, he mused. I wonder if McGonagall will still let Harry join the Quidditch team...

Vaughn had never intended to interfere with Harry's story. He preferred to stay in his own lane and let fate take its course.

Like saving Neville today—he'd done that simply because he liked the kid.

But the conflict between Harry and Malfoy was inevitable. They were born to clash. And Malfoy's rotten mouth had pushed things further than Vaughn expected.

Unless Vaughn planned to play nanny and keep Malfoy in check every day, the fight would've happened sooner or later.

Back at the Quidditch pitch, Hermione ran up to him with a desperate look.

Vaughn shook his head and told her what had happened.

Her face went white. After making sure Harry wasn't hurt, she trembled with rage. "I! Just! KNEW! They'd get into trouble!"

Ron looked pale too and rushed up. "He's not gonna get expelled, is he?"

Hermione snapped, "Now you're scared? You egged him on before! Even if he's not expelled, Gryffindor's points are doomed!"

For once, Ron didn't dare argue.

When flying class ended, Ron and Hermione dragged Vaughn to the house hourglasses.

They saw that Gryffindor had lost 60 points, Slytherin 40, though Vaughn had gained back 20.

The reason? Malfoy had provoked Harry, but Harry had responded with aggression, almost causing an accident.

In an instant, the point gap widened by 40. Hermione looked like she was about to faint.

Later, Harry returned with good news—Professor McGonagall had allowed him to join the Quidditch team.

But Hermione wasn't interested.

And Harry wasn't happy either, because with the good news came something worse—He'd been assigned detention.

With Malfoy.
