Harry Potter: Becoming a Study God

Chapter 198: Chapter 198: Flying Among the Clouds

Wade's words left Lupin in silence.

Sirius had been in immense pain recently. Unlike the sorrow of losing a close friend, this was a different kind of torment—finally getting to know his brother, truly, years after his death.

Seeing his friend's expression, Lupin often felt that Sirius might have preferred to have died in Azkaban.

Yet Sirius didn't unleash his grief recklessly, and did not even break down in tears. After spending a long time alone in silence, he simply told Lupin that he wanted to hold a funeral for Regulus.

What could Lupin say?

Seeing the depth of Sirius's pain, Lupin could only do his best to support his requests.

But hearing Wade's words, Lupin had to admit they made a lot of sense.

What surprised him was that Wade wasn't focusing entirely on Sirius's perspective, as he was, but instead considering things from the viewpoint of the deceased Regulus.

And, oddly enough, such an argument would probably resonate more with Sirius in his current state.

After a moment of contemplation, Lupin said, "I'll ask Sirius what he thinks. If he agrees, we'll bring Regulus... home."

Sirius, of course, would not disagree.

It was as if those words had come directly from Regulus himself—how could Sirius refuse?

...

To transport Regulus's remains, they couldn't exactly shove the coffin into the Floo Network or carry it via Apparition. So, Lupin had to make another trip to borrow a carriage from Hagrid.

By this time, the students had all left on the train, so Hagrid, having sent the Thestrals back to the school, brought a carriage to Sirius's house.

Lupin cast an Extension Charm on the carriage, while Hagrid carefully cradled the coffin in his massive arms and placed it gently onto the wooden boards of the carriage.

With a deep thud, the coffin settled into place, the sound low and heavy.

Tears welled up in Hagrid's eyes, and soon they were dripping onto the edge of the carriage.

"Regulus... I never liked him before. I thought he was just another one of those evil Slytherins..."

Hagrid choked on his words, pulled out his enormous handkerchief to wipe his eyes and said in a trembling voice. "I didn't know he was such a good person... If only I'd invited him for a drink back when he was still at school..."

Lupin gave a faint, bitter smile, and his expression was also tinged with sorrow.

He didn't say it, but even if Hagrid had extended an invitation at the time, the proud heir of the Black family likely wouldn't have bothered with the gamekeeper.

He just thought about how he had never really taken the time to look at that boy properly.

Regulus was the younger brother of his close friend, yet in their eyes, he had always been defined more by the symbol of "Slytherin."

At the same time, Lupin couldn't help but feel a bit envious. Envious of Hagrid for being able to express his sorrow so openly.

If only Sirius could cry like that, maybe things would be a little easier for him?

Lupin didn't say much more. He let Wade climb into the carriage and joined him, then said, "Thank you, Hagrid. We're leaving now."

"Mm," Hagrid nodded, and his eyes were red as he waved goodbye. "Don't worry about Ari and Louis; once you get to the destination, they'll fly back on their own."

"Alright, I understand," Lupin said.

Wade also said goodbye to Hagrid. Lupin tapped the carriage with his wand, and the entire carriage, along with its occupants, became invisible.

The Thestrals spread their bat-like wings and lifted the carriage into the air. The cold wind of winter cut sharply through the heights, and Wade quickly waved his wand several times. A hemispherical shield appeared above the carriage, blocking the wind.

"Well done, Wade."

Lupin praised him, one hand resting on the coffin, the other holding the reins to steer.

The Thestrals were very intelligent; with a slight tug on the reins, they knew exactly which direction to fly.

The carriage flew over fields and villages, past Muggle cities. Wade even saw the Hogwarts Express speeding along the tracks with a trail of white smoke trailing behind it.

To cross over a mountain peak, the carriage flew higher and higher, nearing the clouds.

Unable to resist, Wade looked up. Large, fluffy clouds were right above him, almost within reach.

From this angle, the sky and earth seemed to be inverted, with the clouds appearing like a soft, white bed, beckoning travelers to lie down and rest.

"Can we fly into the clouds, Remus?" Wade asked.

Up in the high altitude, even though the magic shield blocked the howling wind, the sound of it still echoed in their ears. Lupin couldn't hear him, so he raised his voice and called, "What?"

Wade had to ask again, louder.

"We can't fly inside the clouds, we'd be soaked in an instant... oh..."

Lupin suddenly noticed the shield around the carriage and understood. He tugged on the reins, and the Thestrals suddenly flapped their wings and plunged into the thick clouds.

The view immediately turned to a vast, blinding white.

It was as if the entire world had disappeared, and all they could see was the deep and shallow white rushing past.

Wade felt as if even his breathing had become quiet.

[Look—]

He told himself in his mind:

[I'm flying in the clouds—]

It felt like only a few seconds before the carriage broke through the clouds.

The Thestrals, covered in water droplets and ice crystals, sparkled as they galloped, leaving a trail behind them that looked like a path of stardust as the melting ice scattered in their wake.

This wasn't likely the first time Lupin had seen such a scene, so he couldn't fully understand Wade's feelings. He just checked the direction and gave the reins a little shake.

The Thestrals suddenly dove downward, heading toward a massive city. For the first time in his life, Wade looked at London from this angle. The towering buildings and the bustling traffic reminded him that he was living in London in 1992.

It was unfortunate that it was still midday. If it were nighttime, the city lights would surely make the scene even more dazzling.

Living at Hogwarts for so long, where there wasn't even a single electric light, often made one feel as though they were living in the Middle Ages.

But upon returning home, especially to the Muggle world, one could sharply feel the disconnection from the world.

Perhaps that's why many students from Muggle families, after graduation, chose to live in the wizarding world—not only because of the Statute of Secrecy and their identity as wizards, but also because they found it hard to adapt to the rapidly changing world outside.

The carriage landed on a patch of grass. Of course, it was covered in snow, so no green could be seen.

The magic shield disappeared, and Wade immediately felt the near-zero temperatures outside. He shivered, and gripped the side of the carriage as he jumped down.

Lupin thanked the Thestrals and, using the Levitation Charm, moved the coffin off the carriage. The Thestrals took two steps away, then flapped their wings in unison and lifted the carriage back into the air.

With a "boom," the surrounding snowflakes scattered like a storm, covering the faces of the two people next to the carriage.

Wade wiped the snow from his face, blinked, and looked somewhat dazed.

Then, he heard a deep, raspy voice from beside him:

"Thank you for your hard work, Remus, Wade."

"Leave him to me."
