Harry Potter: Becoming a Study God

Wade followed a group of Slytherin students, and headed underground.

He wasn't very familiar with this group, but he knew they were fourth years.

"I can't believe those two dimwits, Crabbe and Goyle, could pull something like this off," a girl said. "I thought they couldn't even manage a Lumos spell!"

A boy replied, "Their practical skills are actually not bad. They both passed their exams last term... At least they're better than Flint."

At this, the group chuckled quietly.

Marcus Flint was the captain of the Quidditch team—a tall and burly figure. However, while his Quidditch skills were commendable, his performance in every other subject was abysmal.

In his OWLs, Flint barely managed to scrape a passing grade in Charms, which allowed him to continue the subject.

Now that he was in his seventh year, Professor Flitwick had explicitly warned him that his mediocre skills made it highly unlikely he'd pass his N.E.W.T.s. The professor suggested that Flint devote more time to his studies.

But the greater the pressure, the more Flint buried himself in Quidditch, the one thing that gave him a sense of accomplishment. At this rate, failing the year seemed inevitable.

In the past, when Slytherins called someone dumb, they'd say, "You've got the brain of a Hufflepuff."

But now, they'd joke, "Are you turning into Flint?"

That joke, however, hadn't spread beyond the Slytherin common room.

After laughing for a bit, they stopped in front of a damp, empty stone wall.

"Pureblood." 

The leading boy said.

The hidden stone door slowly opened. The group filed in one by one, and the last girl couldn't help but glance back.

The stone door closed slowly under her gaze.

The girl felt that the door seemed to close a bit more slowly than usual today. But as she wasn't very time-sensitive, she wasn't sure.

"Come over and sit, Peggy!"

Her companion called out.

The girl walked over and sat on the sofa.

"What plans do you have for the holidays?" another student next to her asked.

The group began chatting about assignments, holidays, and love triangles.

Wade, still under the Disillusionment Charm, observed his surroundings carefully.

The Slytherin common room was located underground and had not been expanded using the Undetectable Extension Charm, making it feel long and low. The walls and ceiling were made of rough stone, giving the space the appearance of a dungeon rather than a common room.

Circular chandeliers emitted a green light, which only added to the room's gloomy and eerie atmosphere. Students had to light candles just to complete their homework.

However, the fireplace and furniture in the common room were exquisitely crafted, with intricate and delicate carvings that seemed out of place in such a setting.

Through the narrow windows, one could vaguely see the dark green waters of the Black Lake outside. On sunny days, it might have been possible to catch a glimpse of the vibrant creatures in the lake, but today the view was nothing but pitch-black darkness.

Wade paused for a moment to observe, and felt a faint tugging sensation at his fingertips.

He followed the pull down a similarly dark and damp stone corridor. On either side of the corridor were tightly shut wooden doors, making the place resemble a prison.

The oppressive environment was unpleasant even for Slytherin students, so the corridor was deserted, making it feel even more deathly silent.

Maggie, who was also in an invisibility mode, led Wade to a stop in front of one of the wooden doors and whispered, "This is the dormitory. Maggie is not allowed to enter."

Wade asked, "Is he still inside?"

"Yes," Maggie replied.

Wade tapped the door lock with his wand, and with a soft "click," the lock opened. He pushed the door and stepped inside.

Having just finished tidying up the room, Dobby was lying under the bed and enduring his hunger.

Dobby couldn't help but miss Crabbe and Goyle.

Though his current master despised them, if those two were around, there would always be food scattered around the dormitory. Even if some of it disappeared, they would never notice.

Dobby estimated the time and figured his master would be back soon, so he followed the "don't let me see you" order and hid himself.

But the dormitory was small, and hiding spots were limited. Dobby couldn't shrink himself and squeeze into a jar, so under the bed was the best option. At least it was spacious enough that he didn't have to contort himself.

He counted the seconds, waiting for the long day to pass.

Suddenly, he heard the door open. Thinking it was his master, he froze. But then, hearing the footsteps, he realized something was off.

Still, he didn't dare expose himself and stayed under the bed, and was unwilling to investigate.

However, the intruder had no intention of letting him remain hidden.

A pair of black shoes stopped briefly at the door before heading straight for the bed where he was hiding—and then came to a stop.

Someone crouched down and pulled back the bed curtain.

"Hello—Dobby?"

Dobby's eyes widened in shock.

He tried to jump up, only to hit his head against the underside of the bed with a loud "thud." The pain brought tears to his eyes.

"Sorry, sorry! I didn't mean to scare you."

The person stepped back a couple of paces, giving Dobby some space, and said, "What are you doing hiding under the bed? Come on out."

Dobby hesitated for a moment before crawling out from under the bed. He stood awkwardly by the bed, pressed close to the green curtain hanging from the ceiling, as if it offered some sense of security.

Of course, he recognized the student standing before him.

Over the summer, Dobby had caused Harry Potter a lot of trouble while trying to get him expelled from Hogwarts, which had led to Harry being locked up by his Muggle relatives.

It was this student, along with another adult wizard, who had rescued Harry Potter.

Dobby had since snuck into Hogwarts several times and was looking for opportunities to get Harry to leave the school, and he often saw this student with Harry.

Even earlier, Dobby had heard his name mentioned by both his master and young master.

Wade Grey.

Despite his young age, he was known for his many inventions, the favorite student of alchemist Murray, and someone even Dumbledore held in high regard.

Dobby's young master, Draco Malfoy, didn't like Wade, but even he couldn't resist buying Wade's invention, the Book of Friends. Draco had secretly bought over a dozen sets, and collected various rare limited editions.

Draco also purchased entire sets of Soft light Badges at once, and changed them daily to match his mood.

Dobby's master and mistress were no different, though they bought even more.

For the appearance-conscious wizarding aristocracy, going out without wearing a badge that reflected their status was as embarrassing as being improperly dressed.

The difference was that the Malfoys didn't secretly use the inventions while cursing their creator.

But why is Wade Grey sneaking into this dormitory?

Dobby fidgeted uneasily and stole a glance at him.

"I've heard about you from Harry, Dobby," Wade said gently. "So, you're the Malfoy family's house-elf? Were your actions instructed by your master?"

"Of course not!"

Dobby became agitated at the question.

"Dobby wants to protect Harry Potter! Someone is plotting a terrible scheme at Hogwarts, and before it happens, Harry Potter must not stay here! Harry Potter must go home! Wade Grey shouldn't stop Dobby!"
