Chapter 156: Chapter 154: The Coin Toss Game
Batman appeared in front of Two-Face, raising the barrel of his gun so it only left a hole in the ceiling.
"I've dealt with him many times. You're not Batman," Two-Face said with certainty.
"Then why dare ignore my warning? Not afraid of death?" Keno asked calmly.
"If I truly die, then it must be destiny's arrangement. I follow fate," Two-Face replied, his eyes devoid of fear, filled only with endless madness.
Keno crushed the gun in Two-Face's hand with a single hand, the sound of metal shattering sending chills down the spine.
He waved to the hostages behind him and said in a deep voice, "All of you, leave. Close the door behind you."
The hostages fled in a panic, their footsteps chaotic as they scrambled toward the exit.
"No! He must die! Fate has already bestowed a death sentence upon him!" Two-Face roared hysterically and pulled out a knife from behind, aiming to stab the Black man in front of him.
Keno grabbed the collar of his coat and yanked him back violently.
"You love fate so much? Then let's make a deal with it. Win, and I'll let you go. Lose, and you let him go."
"Fine," Two-Face agreed without hesitation and tossed his coin into the air.
It landed on heads.
"I win," he said.
Keno waved at the Black man, signaling him to leave quickly.
The man was tearfully grateful.
"Thank you, Batman," he said, then quickly exited, even taking care to close the door behind him.
Keno removed his helmet, and instantly felt a soothing relief across his scalp.
"I used to think Superman had the best temper—beat him up all you want and he doesn't react. But now I think Batman's patience is even better. Fighting with a city full of lunatics every day without killing anyone? Respect."
Keno sighed sincerely.
Two-Face was startled upon seeing Keno's real face. He might be crazy, but he wasn't stupid.
Anyone who dared to expose themselves like that either planned to kill everyone or didn't care about revealing their identity at all.
Two-Face flipped the coin again and caught it—it landed on heads. Disappointment and pain flashed in his eyes, but were quickly swallowed by his madness.
"What's this one for?" Keno asked with curiosity.
"For my own fate. What are you going to do—kill me or send me to Arkham?" Two-Face asked coldly.
Keno looked at him and suddenly burst out laughing. His laughter echoed throughout the empty bank hall, carrying a strange and unreadable tone.
"Of course, I respect your fate. Since you believe in it so much… how about playing a game?" Keno offered.
"What kind of game?"
Keno pulled out a transparent bottle of liquid and tossed it toward a robber on the ground.
Smash!
The sharp sound of breaking glass rang out. The liquid splashed across the robber's face, and white smoke rose instantly.
"AAAHHH!" The robber woke up from the burning agony, his screams piercing through the space.
White smoke continued to rise. His face began to corrode, a gruesome sight that was hard to look at.
"Sulfuric acid!" Two-Face gasped in horror. After all, it was sulfuric acid that had turned him into what he was.
At this moment, the intact half of his face twisted in fear. Old nightmares came rushing back to his mind.
Soon, the screams stopped. The robber's vocal cords had been completely dissolved. He writhed on the floor, his body twisting in unnatural ways—like a trapped beast on the verge of death.
Keno, seeing it was about time, pulled out a vial of healing serum, popped the syringe out, and threw it like a dart—striking the robber with precision.
As the serum was injected, red flesh began to grow where the skin had corroded, gradually repairing the horrifying wounds left by the acid.
Two-Face moved beside the robber, staring intently as the man's face regenerated.
Once the scabs fell away, a completely intact face was revealed.
Two-Face immediately grabbed and yanked at the man's skin with force—he had to confirm it was real.
"Boss, I—mmpf!" The robber was knocked out again before he could even finish speaking.
Keno pulled out another vial of green serum and looked at Two-Face with a faint smile.
"So, what do you say? Want to play?" he asked.
Two-Face's gaze locked on the green serum with deep desire. No matter which personality was in control, both craved to restore his face.
But stealing it? Impossible. The man in front of him was far too strong.
"I'll play. I'll play whatever game you want!" he said.
"Great. Your favorite game—coin toss. I'll choose heads. If you toss tails, you win. You only have…"
Keno looked around at the number of robbers on the floor.
"Seventeen tries."
"Deal."
Two-Face agreed instantly and walked over to a table, beginning his tosses.
First coin—heads.
Without changing his expression, he picked up a nearby handgun, pointed it at one of the robbers—
Bang!
A hole opened in the man's head. Blood sprayed out.
"Continue," Keno said, arms folded, his expression calm.
Second coin—heads.
"What a pity," Keno said with a trace of mockery in his tone.
Bang!
Third coin—heads.
"Still not quite there," Keno shook his head slightly.
Bang!
…
Sixteenth coin—heads.
Bang!
Only one chance left.
Two-Face looked at the coin in his hand, feeling as though it was a stranger. If someone else were tossing it, he'd suspect trickery—but it was him tossing it.
Why?
Was this truly his fate?
Keno almost laughed. With Magneto's powers, it was impossible for the coin to ever land on tails.
Wee-woo wee-woo!
Police sirens rang outside. The police had finally arrived. Normally, they wouldn't take so long, but there had been a flood of emergency calls today.
"You're running out of time," Keno said.
"I know," Two-Face replied.
He trembled as he tossed the final coin. It spun rapidly on the tabletop.
Heads.
"Looks like your fate doesn't want you to have this serum. You're out of chances."
Bang!
Just as Keno prepared to knock him out, Two-Face shot the last robber, then turned the gun on himself.
"No! I still have one last chance! You must've made a deal with Batman—not to kill people, or at least not to kill them while pretending to be him. That's why you used the serum to tempt me—to let me kill them instead. But you want to kill me too, don't you? So I have one more chance!"
Two-Face roared hysterically, his eyes bloodshot, his expression nearly deranged.
Outside, the police had started battering the door. Loud bangs and shouting echoed through the room.
"Alright. But let's add a final rule—if the coin lands standing upright, I'll give you the serum. But you still die. Want to try?"
Keno made it clear—he'd rigged the game from the start.
"Hahaha! Of course I'll play!"
Two-Face laughed maniacally, his eyes full of desperate determination.
He tossed the final coin. It spun on the table. All eyes focused on it. Time seemed to freeze.
Slowly, the coin spun slower and slower… until it stopped.
It stood upright.
"Fate has granted you the serum," Keno said.
Two-Face couldn't wait. He grabbed the vial and stabbed it into his own neck.
Instantly, he felt an unbearable itch spreading across his face.
"This one's a gift," Keno added, dropping a mirror in front of him.
Then he fired his grapple gun and exited through the skylight in the ceiling.
Quote of the Chapter
