Chapter 82 : who got chocolate
As the four girls, Sasha, Crysty, Linda, and Lyra, were busy lining up for the time-limited special Valentine cakes, Eiden and his group had already started eating. None of them were even remotely interested in those special cakes. It was not because they hated them, but because none of them had a sweet tooth in the first place. Petter looked at the long line and scoffed. He leaned back in his seat, crossing his arms as he said in a dismissive tone, "I ate one before, but it was just weirdly sweet and that is it. Why make so much fuss over that?"
Eiden glanced toward the crowd, silently agreeing with him, his expression showing the same lack of interest. Deuel, however, replied with a small shrug, "Well, apparently for girls, most of them have a sweet tooth, and they can differentiate a lot of sweet tastes. To them it is more than just sugar."
Harry tilted his head, finding the thought amusing. "Then they really are sweet experts," he said with a chuckle. "Because I can hardly differentiate between different types of sweetness. To me, they all taste the same. I can tell different flavors, sure, but different sweetness levels? Not happening." Before the topic could die, John suddenly interrupted. He leaned forward, waving a small cube of chocolate wrapped neatly in shiny paper with a mischievous smirk. "Hey guys, any of you got any chocolate?" His tone made it clear he was baiting for a reaction.
Petter immediately stopped eating, his forehead veins popping out as his eyes narrowed dangerously. "What are you implying?" he asked in a deep, threatening tone. Harry leaned toward the cube in John's hand, pointing at it curiously. "You got one?" John just kept smirking. Deuel then casually slipped his hand into his pocket and pulled out the exact same chocolate John had, holding it between his fingers like it was nothing special. "These were being distributed earlier," Deuel explained, smirking back. "She was practically giving them away, whether she knew the person or not."
The confident smirk on John's face instantly vanished. Petter and Harry both burst into loud laughter. "You were trying to act high and mighty with a giveaway chocolate? Hahahah!" Petter roared, almost falling off his chair, while Harry slapped the table in amusement. John frowned, his pride clearly dented, while Eiden just smiled quietly, trying not to laugh out loud at the scene. After a moment, Harry managed to calm down enough to add, "Oh yeah, I heard Eiden got a chocolate from Linda. One of my friends told me."
Eiden froze mid-bite, his expression going completely blank. Inwardly he thought, When the ffck did this guy hear about that? Deuel glanced at him with genuine confusion, while Petter and John both went still, their earlier amusement replaced by curiosity. Petter scratched his cheek and said slowly, "But did not she reject Eiden? You must have heard it wrong." His tone was casual, but there was an awkward smile tugging at his lips. John quickly nodded in agreement, trying to play along.
Harry, however, was persistent. "My friend saw it personally, and he never lies about such things," he insisted firmly. John's eye twitched while Petter's smile faltered. Both of them turned their gaze back to Eiden, who remained stone-faced and just carried on eating without saying a word. He did not deny it, nor did he confirm it, simply sipping his juice like the conversation was not even happening. Deuel leaned in, clearly curious now. "Is that true?"
Eiden kept sipping from his glass in as if buying himself time, but before he could answer, Petter suddenly stood up and reached for his collar. "This son of a *****" Petter's voice was sharp, but Deuel and Harry quickly stepped in, holding him back before he could grab Eiden. John just sat there, locking eyes with Eiden and smiling knowingly. "Explain," John demanded. Eiden finally set down his drink, looked at all three of them, and said flatly, "I did receive one."
Petter's forehead veins pulsed again as he snapped, "Now how the hell did that happen?" Eiden shrugged and replied calmly, "I do not know." Petter sat back down in silence, taking a sip of his own juice, but then abruptly stood again and charged at Eiden. "Are you trying to show off, mother *****" Harry grabbed him by the waist this time, while Deuel quickly came between them. Eiden leaned back with his hands raised in surrender. "Yo, I don't know why she gave it to me either, okay? I am confused too. I have not even talked to her that much, and we are certainly not close enough to be giving each other chocolate."
"Bullshit," Petter spat immediately, but there was no real bite in his voice now. John frowned slightly, while Deuel narrowed his eyes, thinking the matter over. "Are you sure you guys are not close?" Deuel asked. Eiden nodded without hesitation. "Yeah. Positive." John rubbed his chin, visibly annoyed. "Was it for someone else then?" Eiden shook his head. "No, I don't think so. She gave it to me and didn't say anything about it being for anyone else." Harry, still busy restraining Petter, did not think much of it. Petter eventually calmed down enough to sit back down.
After a short pause, Petter muttered, "Do you think it was a way to show sympathy? You know, because you got rejected by her?" Eiden sighed. "I don't know," he replied simply. That ended the discussion for the moment, but the air between them was far from settled.
Meanwhile, back at the line, Lyra was the last among the girls to get her cake. She returned to the table with the others, and the four of them sat together. Linda was the first to dig in, and with every bite, her expression lit up like she was experiencing pure bliss. Sasha followed along, enjoying her portion, then Lyra, and finally Crysty. They were all savoring their cakes, their conversation filled with little comments about the texture and sweetness.
It was in the middle of this that Sasha, with a thoughtful glance at the others, asked, "Do any of you have a person to give chocolate to?" Her words caused an immediate reaction. Linda and Lyra froze for a moment, forks hovering mid-air, and even Crysty paused when she noticed the sudden stiffness in the other two. Sasha's eyes narrowed slightly. She was not one to miss such reactions.
She turned her gaze toward Linda. "Did you give anyone?" she asked directly. Linda gave an awkward smile and said, "Yeah, I guess so." Crysty's curiosity sparked immediately. "Ohhh? Who is it?" she asked, leaning forward with a teasing grin. Linda chuckled nervously, brushing the question off. "Just someone." The vagueness in her tone only made it more suspicious, but she kept her expression light.
Crysty raised an eyebrow before shifting her attention toward Lyra. "What about you?" she asked, and Sasha joined in, eyes on Lyra as well. "Is there?" Lyra quickly shook her head, her movements almost frantic. "No, I have not given to anyone." She hesitated before adding softly, "Yet," though only in her thoughts. The faint fluster on her face was noticeable, but before the conversation could turn heavy, Crysty smoothly steered it away. "Wanna exchange a bite?"
All of them agreed, and they began swapping small portions of each other's cakes, commenting on the differences in flavor and texture. Soon they were immersed in tasting and comparing, their earlier tension fading into lighthearted chatter. Linda's earlier awkwardness was buried under her cheerful tone, while Sasha kept a small note in her mind about both girls' reactions. Lyra, meanwhile, let out a quiet sigh of relief when no one pressed her further.
She glanced down at the paper bag resting on her lap, her fingers brushing over it lightly. Inside was something she had been holding onto all morning. How do I give it to him? she thought, her eyes momentarily unfocused as the conversation around her faded into background noise. The thought lingered heavily, and even though she tried to push it aside, it stayed with her until the last bite of cake was gone.
