Chapter 255: Worthless
These fights weren't the only ones going on and these women weren't the only ones fighting for their world and their glory.
Each of them was fighting their own unique battle, in their own unique way.
Just like how Zara, Alice, and Neko were, at this very moment, face to face with one of Mortis's commanders.
He was a short man with a big beard. Plain black hair, normal black eyes, and on his back was a massive warhammer that clearly didn't match what a man of his size should be able to carry.
But the women knew better than to believe what their eyes saw.
Because sight can be fooled very easily.
But there is always one particular person in any trio that just can't shut up when it's time to shut up.
"Hahahah, Zara, Neko, look at this little guy trying to act cool. Isn't he cute?" Alice said, laughing loudly and without restraint.
Zara and Neko's lips twitched, but they weren't surprised.
Alice was known to be mischievous. Talkative. A girl who would comment on anything and everything.
But was that really surprising?
After all, Alice had spent dozens of years unable to speak properly. Dozens of years filled with agony and frustration. Dozens of years where she wished, every single day, that she could just speak.
But nothing came… until one fateful day, her life changed.
And when she finally could speak freely, when she tasted how delectable and intoxicating it was to use her voice…
She never stopped.
Because she knew, she understood, what a true blessing it was to speak.
Something most people take for granted.
To them, talking was just… normal. Not miraculous. Not worthy of reverence.
But to someone who had once been mute? Or someone who had stuttered for most of their life?
It's not just speech.
It's liberation.
But that's how life is…
'You never grasp how important something is until you lose it or you are deprived of it since the beginning.'
Zara and Neko thought the same thing in sync, remembering what Alice had once told them when they asked why she loved to talk so much.
They sighed in unison, shifting their focus back on the battle. because the commander seemed to have had enough of Alice's laughter.
"You… you want to die a painful death?" the man, Lewis, growled, his voice deep and full of rage.
It had been a long time since someone dared mock him like that. Seeing it now, he couldn't hold back.
Without wasting a second, Lewis drew his warhammer and struck at Alice with terrifying speed—aiming straight for her skull, intending to crush it.
Alice kept laughing… right up until the warhammer was an inch from her face.
Then—
A sudden burst of black flame spiraled in front of her, engulfing the warhammer entirely. A wave of sorrow permeated the air, catching Lewis off guard. His grip on the hammer loosened instinctively.
Jagged spears of black ice erupted from the sky, multiplying a hundredfold before raining down on him.
And at the same time, a red chain forged from pure, alien anger shot out and coiled tightly around Lewis's body.
A flood of wrath exploded from him as a result, unbearable, outrageous, maddening. He rampaged, his eyes going red.
That's when Alice acted.
She calmly stepped forward, reached out, and placed her delicate hand on his face,
SNAP—!
Lewis's eyes widened and this time, they turned completely normal.
The rage was gone.
'It was an act,' Alice realized, her eyes narrowing just as Lewis's hand lashed out with terrifying speed, aiming to strangle her on the spot.
But she was ready.
"Stop," Alice commanded and for one nanosecond, Lewis halted, confused.
She used that brief pause to break free and distance herself instantly.
The others didn't let that window go to waste.
Neko appeared in a burst of black flame before the still-staggered Lewis. In her right hand, she conjured a sword, entirely black and shrouded in a fog-like vapor, and thrust it straight at him.
Or at least, she tried.
CLANK—!
The blade was deflected by the dense black onyx armor hidden under his clothes.
But Neko didn't get discouraged. With her other hand, she released a burst of condensed black frost mixed with the same black flame and detonated it directly in Lewis's face.
BOOOOM!!!
A deafening explosion ripped through the surroundings.
Lewis was engulfed in fire and frost, his armor beginning to freeze and burn simultaneously in ways he had never imagined.
But it wasn't just him.
The very space around him darkened, cracks spreading across its surface like spiderwebs, as if the dimension itself would shatter at the slightest touch.
And in other spots, the space began to burn, literally.
Molten trails formed, dripping like fire from the very fabric of reality.
Space was burning.
It was a scene of chaos and wonder.
But it still wasn't over.
Zara hadn't moved.
Alice hadn't either.
And now…they did.
The two moved in unison.
They had known each other for a long time, and after becoming Noah's women, they had grown even closer, so much that they'd developed a unique combo technique between them.
A technique combining the power of word and emotion.
So while Lewis was still being scorched and frozen by Neko, they began.
Zara raised her hand, palm open to the sky. Instantly, power started to manifest and orbit around her fingers.
It was the concentration of every negative emotion she had ever felt, each one amplified to its peak.
She compressed them all into one artifact: a voice speaker.
It shimmered with chaotic colors, each one flickering with such intensity that even looking at it could shatter the mind of any SS-rank or lower.
Even the surroundings were affected—drenched in sorrow, pain, humiliation, hatred, so deep and potent that it felt like the air itself had turned into grief.
It felt like the world had been dipped into despair.
When the speaker was ready, Zara tossed it to Alice.
Alice caught it.
And just like anyone would use a speaker to amplify their voice…
She did.
She didn't say anything complex.
No fancy words.
Just one.
One single word, spoken softly, but it echoed with unimaginable weight…
"Worthless."
And,
The whole world screamed in agony as if it had been stabbed in its very soul.
It broke.
It shattered.
