Chapter 28: Specters of Interest
"Oh my goodness," exclaimed Hermione.
"Ron, you shouldn't have said that, I will talk to her," Evan said, looking at Ron with annoyance.
"Alright!" Ron said, blushing, "You really don't like Moaning Myrtle, do you?"
"Ron!" Hermione exclaimed.
"I don't like her, but she is a valuable source of information," Evan growled, "I had something to ask her, but now it's all ruined."
"You should apologize to her even though I don't really like her, but you shouldn't have said that near Peeves," Hermione said.
"Apologize?!" Ron said, blushing slightly.
"Yes, Ron," said Harry, nudging Ron, "I think Evan and Hermione are right, we said things we shouldn't have."
"Well, since everyone thinks I should do it, I'll go and apologize to her now," Ron said.
After that, he turned around and rushed out of the dungeon as the three watched him, a little worried.
"Come on, I've had a look and the food here is not for the living," sighed Evan, "And I have something to ask Myrtle."
The three headed towards the door, and Nearly Headless Nick floated among the crowd.
"My friends, did you enjoy yourselves?"
"We had a great time," they lied.
"The turnout of people was excellent," said Nearly Headless Nick proudly, "The Weeping Widow came from Kent."
Nick instructed the orchestra to stop playing, stood on a podium with a bright blue spotlight shining on him.
"My esteemed Ladies and Gentlemen, I am deeply saddened..."
Before his words could finish, a sound echoed through the dungeon, the ghosts looked around excitedly while Nick's expression looked somewhat pained.
Suddenly, twelve headless horsemen entered. Everyone present applauded warmly, the three of them also clapped, but when they saw Nearly Headless Nick's face, they stopped.
The twelve riders moved to the center of the dance floor and dismounted their horses.
The leader of the ghosts was a man carrying his bearded face under his arm. The man took his head and held it up high so he could see the crowd while making everyone laugh.
He approached Nearly Headless Nick.
"Nick!" the man said, "How are you, does your head still wobble?" the man shouted.
The man laughed and slapped Nearly Headless Nick's shoulder.
"Welcome, Sir Patrick," Nearly Headless Nick said stiffly.
"Living ones!"
Sir Patrick looked towards Evan, Harry, and Hermione, dropped his head making everyone laugh once more.
"It's quite funny," said Nearly Headless Nick.
"Don't be so gloomy, Nick," Sir Patrick's head shouted from the ground, "Nick is still upset because we didn't let him join the Headless Hunt!"
"I believe..." Harry started but before he finished his words, he noticed Nearly Headless Nick's significant look and remembered his commitment, and hastily said, "Nick is terrifying!"
"Hahahaha"
Sir Patrick's head exclaimed, "I suppose he told you to say that."
Then he ignored Harry and began playing a game of hockey with his head with the rest of the Headless Hunt, all the ghosts turned to watch the Headless Hunt, and no one paid attention to Nick standing on the podium.

Approaching the podium, he stood beside Nick, producing a loud noise with his wand that drew the attention back to the podium.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to share my perspective as a living person," Evan said.
All the ghosts looked at Evan with curiosity, wondering what the young wizard was going to say, a speech from a living person seemed more interesting than the Headless Hunt's game.
"As a ghost, Nearly Headless Nick may not be as terrifying in appearance as Sir Patrick, but he remains a highly respectable being, even in the world of the living."
Suddenly, there was a great murmur; many ghosts were skeptical of what Evan was saying.
"To encourage more people to commemorate his Deathday and to thank him for the help he offered me," Evan continued, "I decided to invite Mr. Nicholas to become a special correspondent for Hogwarts' magical newspaper and publish his life story in the paper."
The voices of the ghosts grew louder, piquing everyone's curiosity about the role of a 'special correspondent.'
The life of a ghost is so monotonous despite having an endless existence; there are very few things to entertain oneself with, as over the years their memory fades, some ghosts even linger in dark corners, completely forgetting who they once were.
This is the chilling reality for a ghost; all ghosts desperately seek something to do, but the choices are limited, which is one of the reasons why the Headless Hunt is so popular.
However, only a few ghosts have their head and body separated; the vast majority of ghosts remain intact as one entity.
Evan's newspaper correspondent job offers them something to do, but they had never heard of the Hogwarts' Magical Newspaper.
"The Hogwarts' Magical Newspaper specializes in matters related to the wizards of Hogwarts; currently, sales have reached 800 copies, but they are steadily improving," Evan noted, seeing that everyone still had doubts, so he continued to explain: "We have been collaborating with major media outlets such as the Daily Prophet, Witch Weekly, and the Quibbler. For example, the article about Sir Nicholas's life will be printed simultaneously in the Daily Prophet and Hogwarts' Magic."
As Evan's voice faded, the entire room erupted.
Nearly Headless Nick's life story will appear in the Daily Prophet, which is a great honor for a ghost who has been dead for hundreds of years.
Everyone gazed at Nearly Headless Nick with envy.
After a minute, Nearly Headless Nick reacted, looking at Evan with excitement, wanting to thank him for all he had done. Evan believed that if Nearly Headless Nick could cry, he would have been crying for a long time.
Evan's words helped Nick earn the respect of all the ghosts, reignite his Deathday celebration, and no one paid attention to Sir Patrick and the Headless Hunt.
The ghosts congratulated Nick and floated around Evan, Harry, and Hermione, eagerly asking if there were vacancies for special correspondents at the newspaper.
Evan thought the more articles, the better.
There were over a thousand ghosts from all over the United Kingdom present; if he managed to convince them and his friends to contribute, the news sources for the Hogwarts' Magical Newspaper would soon be broader than those of the Daily Prophet.
Evan observed the enthusiasm of all the ghosts, even considering the idea of finding someone to write their life stories.
However, this task would be too extensive and mundane. Young wizards simply could not handle the workload, so he would have to wait to hire specialized staff for this task.
