Haikyuu!!: Invincible [常勝]

Chapter 5: 5 Game Start

The 3v3 match between the girls' volleyball club and the twins concluded with 2-1 set points in favor of the twins. An upperclassman joined the twins during the match. The Yukigaoka girls' volleyball team is quite strong, considering they always manage to get to play at least three games at the preliminaries going toe to toe in the national level is another matter. They were not going easy on them, yet they won nonetheless.

After entering Middle School at Yukigaoka, The boys' volleyball club became more popular due to the influence of two students. Hinata Shoyo and Hinata Shoya. However, even in the second year, they had only managed to gain one rookie, Akito Kanno, a third year.

Akito is a tall boy at 178 cm in height, he has strawberry blonde hair and blue-ish eyes. He is meek and shy but is a strong player. He had an allergy to sunlight so he often wears long sleeves, or compression sleeves during practice. (a character from a different anime)

His position is an outside hitter, It was truly unfortunate that he is a third year, as he will not be able to play until they have enough members, which were only three members short.

Now that the Twins are 3rd year, Akito has graduated already. (He'll probably appear again)

Thankfully three first years had been brought to their doorstep. Mori, Suzuki, and Kawashima. Mori being the shortest and Kawashima as the tallest.

now they only need 1 player to enter a real match.

City Gymnasium

"Woahh!!!!"

Shoyo Hinata Shouted incredibly, this was the first time he had set foot on the City Gymnasium, so he was 'fairly' excited.

"Look at all these people!"

"The Gym's so big!!"

"And.."

Shoyo looked around like a country bumkin stepping foot in a city, "smell all that Icy Hot Spray!!!" he added.

Shoya Hinata on the other hand just looked on, and never bothered to stop him, as he himself is just as excited, although he doesn't wear his heart in his sleeves like Shoyo.

Shoyo wears the number 1 while Shoya wears the number 2 with the captain's patch.

"Geez Sho-chan, are you that nervous?" "Icy hot spray? really?

"Havin' a stage fright are ya'"

Two voices interjected behind the twins pointing out Shoyo's choice of word.

It was Izumi and Koji.

Originally, the boy's volleyball club only needed one more player. However, ever since Shoyo learned that the soccer and basketball clubs had already finished their competition (they lost) and that Koji and Izumi had nothing to do afterward, He convinced them to join.

Shoya does not know why two came. He had no idea what kind of magic Shoyo pulled, but he welcomed it. After all who knows what can happen? They can't be shy about a backup.

the three, Shoyo, Izumi, and Koji, bickered for a while.

On the other hand, Shoya was instructing the three first year to warm up.

"Shoya-san, aren't you gonna calm him down?" Koji asked him.

Shoya stares at Koji for a while. although the four of them are childhood friends, Koji and Izumi had always called him '-san' (formal) he had no idea why he was the only one that is treated formally. It honestly made him a bit lonely.

Although Shoya didn't know, it was actually because they respected him too much. In their eyes, he was a God, a sport god. And it's not even an exaggeration. Ever since they were young they had always begged Shoya to play a game for them and each and every time that he did play, never once did they lose. So for these little children, he was a god.

For them, Shoya and Shoyo are like the Yakuza boss and his pet.

Shoya put his attention to his brother and said,

"Yonyon, go to the bathroom" Although this is the third time he would, Shoya knows the bathroom will be the only place that Shoyo can calm down.

Shoyo immediately went to the bathroom as he already felt his stomach rumbling. In truth, Shoya is actually just as nervous as his brother, the fact that he has been quiet for a while is a sign of that.

Turning to the others, Shoya directed them to warm up for the upcoming match.

***

Hey, look over there. That's them.

Them who?

That's Yukigaoka Middle, the poor scrubs that have to go against Kitagawa Daiichi right off the bat.

A bunch of nobodies going up against the title contender in round one?! So unlucky.

Picking up chatters behind them, Shoya turns to look at the duo gossiping about their downfall.

"?!" seeing a Little Boy (Shoya) glaring in their direction like a butcher in front of chickens, they quickly scurry away. They almost felt like in a horror movie, just in a different setting.

"I'm back!! ack-"

Shoyo was back on his third bathroom break and as if in queue, A tall player bumped into him and he almost fell.

It's Kitagawa Daiichi!

woah they're huge!

talk about intimidating.

Some people in the crowd shouted.

Yet the main focus of the crowd was on one person.

The genius setter Kageyama Tobio, otherwise known as 'King of the Court.'

Hearing his title being tossed around the crowd, Kageyama immediately turned his head at them and glared. He quickly turned away as they were not something he should be prioritizing.

Although most people in the crowd thought that "King of the Court" was a title given to Kageya solely because of his genius, it was a title given to him by his teammates as a symbol of his tyranny.

Kageyama is not someone who would stoop to the level of an average player. He is the type to only settle for the best play, and given his teammates' level, he was dissatisfied.

His team, including his coach, saw this as Arrogance, and marked him with the title of 'King of the court'.

Finally getting a good look at their opponent, Yukigaoka Middle gulps down their nerves.

The third years except their captain were scared out of their minds,

"They're huge!!" Koji said in utter shock.

"They're scary!" Izumi chimed.

"The heck?! They're our opponents ?! Are they really middle schoolers?!"

"C-come on! Have some backbone, Shoya's listening!," Seeing his teammates panic, Shoyo quickly rebutted Koji's words. "And besides, You got Me and Shoya! I've got complete fate in all the things we've done through tortur- training!" He fumbled.

"That's right we got Shoya-san!"

"Yeah!"

"As long as the captain is here!"

"Let's have faith in Shoya-san!"

"I'm here too?!" Shoyo protested feeling betrayed.

Their captain on the other hand, simply just stared and whispered.

"You guys." He started with a low voice slowly getting louder.

"We better fcking win." He said, looking directly into his teammates' eyes.

A chill ran through the team's spine as they heard that.

That was the moment they realized, no, remembered, that there are scarier things than their current opponent.

In spite of the fact that their team is a patch-up group of rookies, the others could not fully refute what their captain said.

Because they know how much of a monster, Hinata Shoya is.

***

Guh, my stomach hurts again.

I Grumbled as I walk through the hallway that leads to the bathroom. Today is the day the my younger brother and I are finally gonna be able to play on the court yet here I am heading for the bathroom for the 5th time, Ugh so lame.

"Man, I bet the first round will be a breeze."

Halting me from my steps were the chatter of some Kitagawa players, seemingly mocking my team.

"Who are we up against again? Yukigaoka middle? Never heard of them."

"Did you see how short they are? They don't even have a libero, heck half of them seems just out of elementary!"

"Nah they're probably all first years."

I clenched my fist as I watch three idiots bark insult after insult.

Although I am not one to speak my mind as bluntly as Shoya that doesn't mean that I can't learn from him.

"Haha, how do they think they can stand up to us-"

"Oi shut your mouth before I shut them up for you" I ended up blurting.

Although I pride myself to not be as harsh and devilish as my younger brother but maybe I had been influensed for far too long as damn did I really said that?

The trio turn to look at where I am. Honestly my stomach hurts so bad but I held it in as I try to look as intimidating as possible.

"...You haven't seen us play yet, you bunch of monkey" I said, I really really need to use the toilet right now ugh.

pft- Hahahahahaha.

Although the three looked stuned for a moment that did not stop them from laughing. Surely seeing someone clutching their stomach while their knees are shaking isn't as intimidating as the words comming out of their mouth.

"Then we'll look forward to see how you play" One of them said not even hiding his giggles, while the other two were whispering insults while laughing. Though their insult were loud enough for me to hear.

little shits! they're mocking me

Just as I was just abour to retort, another voice interjected.

"Oi Second Years.."

They started. Almost immdiately the gossiping trio turn their heads only to be immediately got scared.

"Official warm-ups are starting, hurry your ass up" This guy honestly look like he's more constipated that I am.

The trio imidiately scatter to fill some water bottles.

I stare at the new commers face as his face seems familiar, Shoya had shown me some potential threat during this competition and a face as constipated as that is hard to forget.

'hey we still need two more bottles'

'Yeah but do we really need that much especially against them?'

blah blah they idiots and their senpai angry...

As I was in deep thought I heads some background characters talking but I disregarded them since Shoya would have done the same.

Ah!

Pumping my fist into my palm I exclaimed, I pointed at the direction of the angry senior finally recognizing him.

"Kagedyama Torio!!!"

"Hah?! It's Kageyama Tobio, Boke*!" Kagedyama Torio seems really angry tho.

"Right" I nodded "The tyrant!" I happily added.

Shoya had told me this awhile ago, he said he's the tyrant called king of the court, I honestly think it's a cool alias.

Kageyama pause as he seemed really pissed off as he glared at me.

He's intimidating but he's not scary.

"..what?" I warrily said. He looks like he's about to throw hands really.

"Don't call me that" damn, nevermind he's scary alright.

I raise my hand in mock surrender as I answered, "Alright, I got it, don't be so ansty calm domn."

"You,

I will crush you along with your team, the first round, the second round, the finals, and all the wayup to the nationals,

I'll be the one to win and gets to stay in the court."

He glared down at me and threatened.

"So prepare yourself, though I doubt you can seeing as you literally can't take care of your own health yet here you are talking big" he mock, "It should be common sense to prepare for everything before the tournament."

He's constipated alright. Seeing how much rinckle is forming between his brows.

"In fact why are you even here? to make some fun memory for your last year." He ain't done yet the fuck?

This guy can yap a lot and really has a talent to get on people's nerves, hah.

"I, no, We came here to win, So why don't you yap your business somewhere else." He was right in the first half not gonna lie, but to trample on our effort and passion without knowing who we were is plain infuriating.

Sure we are a bunch of rookies, but that doesn't mean we don't stand a chanch, Shoya and I had to wait till we're third years to finally be able to play and this guy just had to spout some nonesense.

"To win? You say it like it's easy, do you even know how critical height is to this sport?."

HAH.

"It's true that a majority of us has yet to reach 160 cm, but that doesn't mean we can't fight back."

I stare right into his eyes, if I can, I would have punch him really. He really have this really puchable face after all.

"You see, you haven't seen us play yet, right? hah. You repremanded those barking dogs earlier yet aren't you just the same?"

?!

I turned around to enter the bathroom but pause for a bit, "Also, We can fly you know?"

***

After Shoya's (threat) statement, Shoyo once again went to the bathroom out of nervousness. Shoya told Izumi to fetch him as he was taking too long.

"Shoya-san we're back!" Izumi's voice carried a nervous hint as he subtly looked at the Captain's brother.

Shoyo looked pissed at the moment as if he was interrupted mid-dump.

"What's wrong?" Shoya asked.

"'What's wrong?' what's wrong is that guy!" Shoyo frustratingly pointed at a certain king of the court.

"....Right, go warm up" Shoya nonchalantly said, not even bothering for a second look. (He's just a chill guy)

***

fweet!

"Thanks for having us!"

"Captains!"

Finally, it was the start of the game. Each of the captains of two opposing teams was called for a coin toss.

A coin toss is what decides which of the teams gets to either serve or receive on the first rally.

The two captains had an intense stare off though it's quite clear that Kitagawa's captain looked down on Yukigaoka (literally and figuratively), Something that Shoya didn't take kindly.

"Heads"

"Tails"

The silence was broken by Shoya. The referee tossed the coin while the two were still having a staring contest.

Once the coin landed, Shoya smiled, almost manically. The Kitagawa captain shivered, not knowing the reason he just shrugged it off as his imagination.

Head.

"We're going to serve."
