*Gym No. 1*

After school, Hikigaya found himself trailing behind Ichinose and her friends as he stepped into the bustling gymnasium. A large crowd was gathered, and his eyes involuntarily twitched at the sight of the infamous flying fish head and the haughty Horikita Suzune. Without a second thought, he chose to steer clear of them.

Before long, a charming girl with a purple bun appeared on stage. Introducing herself as Tachibana Akane, the Student Union Secretary, she wasted no time in starting the briefing session. Her demeanor was refreshingly more approachable compared to the rigid principal.

A group of students followed her onto the stage, each extolling the virtues of their respective clubs and the perks of joining. To Hikigaya's dismay, the atmosphere was far from engaging. Shibata and his classmates from Class B were buzzing with excitement, while others chatted amongst themselves, leaving Hikigaya undisturbed.

Off to the side, members of the student union handed out club brochures. Hikigaya grabbed one and skimmed through it, taken aback by the elegant design and artistic presentation. He couldn't help but wonder if these students were truly as exceptional as they seemed. If they were that talented, why not just graduate and become professionals?

As he flipped through the brochure, Hikigaya raised an eyebrow at the impressive welfare benefits offered by the school. The facilities were top-notch, boasting world-class gym equipment, expert teachers, and meticulous management. Other schools would likely envy such provisions.

One standout feature was the monthly allocation of 5,000 points for each department. Free food was an undeniable perk. However, Hikigaya noted that these funds were primarily for athletic club members who had depleted their personal points. While this system was generous, it wasn't without its constraints.

The funds were designated for specific uses. For instance, while the Arts Department could only purchase art supplies and books, the Sports Department could buy energy drinks and training gear. This meant that, theoretically, if one created a club with a wide enough scope, they could leverage these funds for personal expenses.

"Wait, doesn't that mean…?" Hikigaya's excitement grew. Although the usage of funds was restricted, he realized that a clever enough approach could allow for the diversion of club funds into personal expenses.

He envisioned creating a gaming club, where he could freely procure handheld devices. However, he was aware that most students joined clubs out of genuine interest, making it unlikely for anyone to agree to his plan. Moreover, the school maintained single-club memberships, limiting the coverage of each organization.

Still, Hikigaya couldn't shake the feeling that such an obvious loophole would have been noticed long ago. After all, the school had been established for over 50 years. Yet, he decided not to dwell on it. His primary concern was finding a way to get his beloved Max Coffee.

Just then, the atmosphere shifted dramatically as teasing voices erupted around him. He looked up to see a senior confidently addressing the first-year students.

The teasing reached a crescendo before a profound silence enveloped the room, akin to a chemical reaction. Hikigaya swallowed hard, feeling an unexpected tension. Who was this senior? Was he some sort of superhuman?

"I am Manabu Horikita, the student council president," the senior introduced himself, his calm voice commanding the audience's attention.

Hikigaya couldn't help but wonder if the arrogant girl, Horikita, was related to him. As Manabu continued his speech about recruiting first-year candidates for the student union, a palpable tension hung in the air, leaving the audience spellbound.

Once he finished, Manabu exited the stage, leaving the first-years in stunned silence. Hikigaya felt a mixture of dread and determination. It was unnerving to think that someone with such influence could stand in the way of his quest for Max Coffee.

"Thank you for your hard work. This concludes the explanation. Membership applications will now be accepted. Applications will remain open until the end of April, so students wishing to apply later should approach their desired club directly," Tachibana Akane announced, her voice dissolving the tension in the room.

Hikigaya seized the moment, requesting an application form and settling down to fill it out. He was determined to join a club, even if it meant facing off against a powerful student council president for the sake of Max Coffee.

"What club do you want to join, Hikigaya-san?" Ichinose inquired, approaching him with her friends from Class B, their curiosity piqued.

"Oh? Hikigaya-san is applying? What club is it?" her friends chimed in, treating him like a local celebrity.

"Uh… the Wool Department?" Hikigaya replied, lacking confidence in his choice. After all, his original intention was to gather wool.

Ichinose and her friends fell silent, bewildered by his response. "I didn't hear about that club," Ichinose finally confessed.

"Is it like the Homecoming Department?" Hikigaya shrugged, unsure of what the club entailed.

More silence ensued, and Hikigaya sensed that his unusual response had only deepened their confusion.

"Anyway, I'll submit my application now," he declared, standing up.

"Okay, see you tomorrow, Hikigaya-san!" Ichinose waved as he walked away.

Reaching the reception desk, he found a long queue before him. After waiting, he approached the table, eager to hand in his application.

"This is my application…" he began, but the girl in front of him interrupted.

"The application should be submitted directly to the society you wish to join. The society director will review it," she stated matter-of-factly, seemingly preoccupied with calling Tachibana Akane.

Hikigaya couldn't help but think that a good student council member shouldn't be so dismissive.

"This is my application and opinion letter for forming a team," he insisted, presenting two handfuls of A4 papers.

The girl looked surprised, her expression shifting as she took them. "Um?" she muttered, a smirk forming on her lips before she composed herself. "We have accepted your opinion. The Student Union will respond within three working days. Next one!"

Hikigaya turned away, feeling somewhat deflated. It seemed his suggestion was met with indifference. Still, he remained resolute. The MAX coffee plan cannot fail!
