Gundam:Super G Universe System

Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Decoy Balloons and "Aquatic Products"

The equipment pool had already been drawn, and no matter how much Reid regretted it, there was no way for the system to issue a refund. He could only console himself with the fact that two green lights had appeared this time, hoping there would be something worthwhile.

So Reid immersed his consciousness into the system and clicked on the first green meteor. What emerged wasn't a Mobile Suit blueprint but a piece of technical equipment—a Decoy Balloon.

The moment Reid saw this, he felt the ten-draw was worth it. This wasn't just some hastily inflated balloon shaped like an MS. These balloons were specially designed—once launched, the chemicals inside would rapidly transition from solid to gaseous state, inflating the balloon in less than a second.

Moreover, these weren't ordinary balloons. They were equipped with decoy devices that mimicked MS signals, specifically designed to spoof targeting systems.

Most MS targeting systems relied on automated locking, with pilots only deciding the target and timing of attacks.

But if a single locked target suddenly became three, the system's judgment logic would determine which one to lock onto in that split second. Generally, if the real unit dodged behind a balloon for even a moment, the lock would most likely shift to the balloon.

At that point, the pilot would have to manually switch targets, and the time lost in that back-and-forth created an opening. Whether for attacking or retreating, Decoy Balloons were incredibly practical in combat.

Even in close-quarters combat, suddenly having a balloon pop up in front of the camera could easily throw the opponent off, potentially causing mistakes. They could even be stuffed with "Hidden Mines" to give the enemy an unpleasant surprise.

Best of all, the weight and volume they consumed for mounting were negligible—small enough to fit inside a finger.

Reid could already picture it: if he and Kira ever ended up on opposing sides in the future, and Kira's Freedom unleashed its rainbow-colored multi-lock barrage, each of his own units could release five Decoy Balloons. Just imagine how many of Freedom's shots would miss that round.

The thought alone excited Reid. That'll teach Freedom to spam multi-lock. Let's see how you like locking onto nothing but decoys.

Pleased with the good haul, Reid cheerfully clicked on the second green meteor. This time, it was an MS blueprint—the Kapool (Turn A).

This Kapool wasn't the AMX-109 Kapool from Neo Zeon but an ancient relic dug up in C.C. 2345, long after Earth's civilization had restarted (and suspected to be a later-era replica of the AMX-109 Kapool). Standing only 14 meters tall and possessing space adaptability, it had been pulled from the all-terrain pool.

Honestly, even if it was a replica, the fact that the system rated it as a C-class unit gave Reid a rough idea of its performance. Even if it was slightly stronger than the original AMX-109 Kapool, the difference wouldn't be significant.

Moreover, this unit was technically an aquatic MS, meaning it would only perform at its best underwater. Since Reid currently had no need for underwater combat, this MS was destined to sit in storage for a while.

As for the remaining white lights, they were all food bundles. Reid casually opened them before exiting the system.

However, when Reid opened his eyes, he found Angie and Noin pressed extremely close, observing him intently. Startled, Reid remarked that the three of them had just had hotpot without even ordering any alcohol. "Drinking to one's fill" was just a figure of speech—what were they up to?

From Angie and Noin's perspective, Reid had just exhibited signs of possible mental instability.

At first, Reid had simply zoned out, closing his eyes as if deep in thought. The next moment, his face twisted into a mask of agony.

Angie had been about to ask what was wrong, but before she could speak, Reid's expression shifted again—this time to the look of someone who had stepped in dog poop, only to realize it was actually a gold nugget, grinning mischievously.

But before the grin could fade, Reid seemed to realize that most of what he'd stepped in was still, in fact, dog poop. In short, he looked like a textbook case of late-stage schizophrenia.

That was why Angie and Noin had cautiously moved closer—just in case Reid really was having an episode, so they could restrain him immediately.

This resulted in Reid opening his eyes to two faces hovering inches from his own. For a split second, he thought they were about to sneak a kiss.

So he shut his eyes again and said,

"Sorry, go ahead. I'll just rest my eyes a little longer."

Angie, seeing this, immediately understood that something must have happened—something she wasn't privy to—rather than Reid actually losing his mind. She gave him a light punch and said,

"Rest what? Explain what just happened. We almost thought you'd come down with some sudden illness and were ready to rush you to the hospital."

Reid knew this wasn't the time for jokes, so he replied plainly,

"It's nothing, really. The rewards for this battle just came in. Given your earlier concerns about parallel worlds, I didn't choose to recruit help this time. Instead, I went for technology—ended up with one useful tech and one completely useless mech.

But even if my expression changed while my eyes were closed, it couldn't have been bad enough to look like a sudden illness, right? You're exaggerating."

Angie and Noin couldn't be bothered to argue whether his expressions had been exaggerated or not. Instead, they felt a flicker of relief—this man wasn't entirely clueless; he did pay attention to their feelings.

Of course, they also knew that recruiting help from that "god" would have been far more beneficial than acquiring technology. Yet Reid had wasted this rare opportunity, all to consider their feelings.

So Noin spoke up, her tone unusually gentle,

"Reid, you really don't need to worry so much about how Angie and I feel. The help that god offers should be used where it's most effective."

Reid's emotional intelligence wasn't so low that he'd admit he'd just been gambling for a high-tier mech. Instead, he answered smoothly,

"Aren't you two the most effective help? And how could I not consider your feelings? Remember, I've literally died once before. Those three months of recovery were only possible because of your care. Besides, after half a year of living together, your peace of mind matters way more than some random helper of unknown skill."

Most of what Reid said was sincere—he truly did value Angie and Noin's feelings. Of course, it was the kind of "valuing" that was as obvious as Sima Zhao's ambitions.

Still, Angie and Noin were touched. After all, when Reid had mentioned the existence of other versions of themselves in parallel worlds, they had panicked a little.

So at this moment, Angie's loyalty in the system suddenly broke through 80, while Noin's rose to 78.

However, Reid wasn't paying attention to the system at all. After all, he wasn't the paranoid type—things like loyalty levels were something he'd glance at before bed at most, just to make sure he hadn't done anything to lower them without realizing it and needing to make amends.

That said, even though he didn't check the loyalty levels, Reid could sense the change in Angie and Noin's attitudes afterward. After dinner, he enjoyed Noin's lap pillow and head massage like some pampered lord.

When Reid was preparing for the next day's meeting with the Republic of East Asia, Angie even took the initiative to help, serving tea and water like a little maid, with none of her usual princess demeanor left. It boosted Reid's work motivation quite a bit.

Thus, the next day, in that same secluded meeting room, facing the East Asian delegation of five once more...

Reid, full of energy, pulled out the modified Iron Frame agricultural mech blueprint and the ground combat type Gundam blueprint, saying:

"Ambassador Zhao, Major Li, take a look. I've come up with two proposals—one mass-produced unit specialized for firepower, and another adaptable to multiple terrains with modular equipment to ensure firepower. You can choose one."
